Man, you're being super vague.
Look, you've got 6 Microsoft macros. If you actually specified exactly "what you're looking for" versus "what you're changing it to," just think about how many combinations that makes.
Check out this link—it might help, and there are VBA macros included (you get a download with instructions). They've got two macros on there that let you specify "exactly what you want." Like, font type, size, color, style, all that stuff. Plus one macro that swaps everything it finds based on a condition (in this case, finding red and switching it to blue).

I’m with you on this formula—it’s basically just my long-winded version condensed down. Everyone sees a problem and finds their own fix; you just gotta hit that "aha!" moment. 😉

Hannah Gomez5 said:it should be obvious that you can just write 0.15 for 15%

To us? Yeah. But for some newbie asking for help? Maybe not.
You never really know what level someone's at when they reach out. You gotta remember we've got middle schoolers popping up on these forums too. 😉

Since people are talking about margins, discounts, sales tax, and percentages, here's a quick little guide for the beginners out there:

- How to calculate percentages, discounts, and sales tax in Excel
Nicholas King said:Didn't you just simplify the formula once one time to make an expression that's gonna be calculated over and over again??

Yeah, basically. You always gotta do a "special" calculation to figure out what number replaces that 0.85 whenever the discount changes.😉
Hannah Gomez5 said:you don't even need brackets
FORMULA IN B1 =0.85*A1*1.23

Sure, you could do it that way, but since the guy couldn't figure out the solution from the tutorial provided, I wrote the formula like that so he’d actually see what the 15% and 23% represent. Plus, it teaches the basic math behind it—who knows, maybe tomorrow they'll be looking for a 35% discount...

obviously, in your version, you should point out that 0.85 = 1-0.15 (15%), because from experience, some people won't get why it's written that way.😉

I don't think the goal is just handing someone the answer; it's about showing them the path so they can handle it themselves next time.

Nicholas King said:Or skip the extra multiplication: B1=1.0455*A1

Since the OP got 10.46 as the result, I'm guessing you were aiming for 10.455 being basically 10.46 (which Excel rounds to two decimals), so you just shifted the decimal point left. That's solid logic though, and it always hits the right final number no matter what you put in A1😉
Never thought of it like that, but that's a killer idea.

[edit]: my bad, didn't see those two posts above when I started typing

Check this out for audio and music stuff in PowerPoint Sound and music in PowerPoint and then hit this link for emailing presentations near the end of the tutorial
Bradley Rivera5 said:thanks but didn't find it there...it's specific because I've just got two cells—the base value on the left and then I need the final result from multiple steps on the right

If you’d actually looked at that second-to-last pic in the second link, you would've seen the formulas.
But honestly, why even do the math yourself? Let someone else handle the heavy lifting 👎

Let's say you have 10 in cell A1 and B1 needs to show 10.46
=A1-(A1*0.15)+((A1-(A1*0.15))*0.23)
Bradley Rivera5 said:so basically: I have the net price plus sales tax (like if it's $10... I need to end up at $10.46)

try deleting your Normal.dotm, reboot your PC, then fire up Word and see if that fixes it
Nicholas King said:I just handle that stuff with macros mapped to function keys.

It wouldn’t hurt to just drop that macro here on the forum so people can grab it if they want to save some hassle (unless it's top secret 😉
Nicholas King said:Ctrl/Alt/1 A

Didn't even cross my mind 😉
boldcrane6 said:Is there seriously no straightforward way to just type ã (like, some quick keyboard shortcut 😁)?

Just toss that character into AutoCorrect and assign it a weird combo (maybe a"? or something similar).
Hit that combo then tap space, and boom—it swaps right to the letter you want.
Or just stick to those classic Alt codes like ALT+0227, ALT+0228...
Nicholas King said:"you need tables in JPG format when publishing papers in academic journals"

my bad, I was just going off his first post 😉
Nicholas King said:and honestly, that usually doesn't cut it for any legit publication

As far as I can tell, @rustycrane86/">@@rustycrane86 isn't even talking about "print." He just asked how to save as a *.jpg
rustycrane86 said:Wondering how I can save an Excel table or some kind of worksheet as a JPG while keeping the layout and quality looking just like it does in the actual .xls file.

Just hit "Print Screen," then go with "special pasta" in Word or a graphics app like "Corel PaintShop Pro" or even Windows "MS Paint"—you'll get an image that looks just like it does in Excel.
Or maybe try Paste Special in Word => Picture (Windows Metafile)
Betty Watson90 said:I followed that tutorial... but how the hell do I hide or just get rid of those numbers?

You didn't follow the tutorial exactly. If you're putting numbers in the Footer, click on Footer Section 2 and hit "Link to Previous" to kill that "Same as Previous" thing for that section. Then just wipe out the numbers in the previous section (those first two lists).

The tutorial shows where to put the numbers in the Header so the screenshots actually look clear and easy to follow.

Karen Cook51 said:Wait, what? It’s Word 2007. I've already scrolled through every single one of those tutorials.

I don't know what you were looking at, but if you just set up your sections and uncheck "same as Previous"—like Nicholas King was saying—you can number every section however you want.

- How to start page numbering on the third page in Word 2003.
- How to start page numbering on page three in Word 2007
- How do you number multiple sections in Word 2007?

Just a heads-up: these tutorials focus on the Header. If you're actually messing around in the Footer, make sure you apply everything there instead.

If you're still running into issues (and there’s absolutely nothing in your Header), just go ahead and kill all those "Same as Previous" settings in the headers for each section. You can do that easily by hitting the "Link to Previous" button.

And that's a wrap. Just grab that Word file and set it up to start numbering from page three. (first two without numbering and last two without numbering)

Download the file and just double-click anywhere in the Header or Footer to pull up the Sections. Otherwise, you can just hit that "Draft" button on the Status Bar—it's shown in the tutorial.
Benjamin Wilson7 said:Not my bad, John.
The cells are just colored in, but when I type numbers in, they show up as this faint, barely visible shade instead of solid black.

Strip out the other data and just leave the broken part. Upload it somewhere we can grab it so we can see what's actually going on.😉

Lord Byron said:Doesn't seem like enough posts to justify that.

Then I don't see why we'd bundle this all into one thread.

Fosna said:Most people just start a new thread without even checking if someone already asked the same thing.

That's the issue—titles are a mess. A little more discipline and order would fix it. After having a few threads nuked, people might actually bother using the search bar or picking a decent title first. But hey, you're a mod, so your word is basically 😉
Besides, unless the goal is just to farm visitors regardless of quality, though this forum definitely has its own reputation.
Benjamin Wilson7 said:So, I set up specific cells where you're only supposed to enter numbers, but when I type something in, the cell looks empty. The data shows up in the formula bar, but nothing appears in the actual cell itself.

The whole Sheets file is locked down except for those specific input cells.

If you haven't fixed it yet, check the Format Cells properties under the Protection tab for those specific cells. Make sure Hiden isn't checked before you lock everything down.
Benjamin King2 said:Since people keep spawning new threads about Excel, Word, and the rest of the Microsoft Office suite, it makes searching a total nightmare and turns this forum into a cluttered mess,

Personally? I think this "isn't a great idea." From what I can see, the real issue is people using garbage titles when they start a thread. A title should actually describe the problem. You shouldn't just name it "help me, I'm stuck" when the whole thing is about copying text in Word.

If we go this route, you're just gonna dump everything—Excel, Word, PowerPoint—into one massive pile. Eventually, you'll have dozens of pages of posts and replies, and you'll end up with people responding to stuff from three weeks ago. If someone is looking for a specific fix for Excel, they'll have to dig through endless pages of Word and PowerPoint junk just to find what they need. It’s inefficient.

In my book, it's better to keep things the way they are and just get strict about thread titles. That's how you actually bring order and make it easy for visitors to navigate.
If you're dead set on this change, maybe consider pinning "TOP" threads for each specific app (Excel, Word, etc.) instead.

Amy Rivera66 said:Why should anyone waste their time if I don't even need the answer anymore??

Maybe someone else will run into this exact same issue down the road and find your fix right here in this thread.
(don't be so selfish). That's literally what forums are for—helping each other out and swapping ideas.
