just Google Image Anchoring might help you out

Check out the fourth picture in the tutorial.

Sophia Jackson87 said:Hey, I want to make a birthday calendar. Which program should I use and how do I go about it?

You didn't really say what you're looking for 😉

If you're down to use Excel (per my last tip), check out the first part of this tutorial: 2014 calendar in Excel with important dates.

Basically, you set the key dates on one spreadsheet and they'll show up highlighted in different colors on the main sheet.
The file is ready for download here
darkbison14 said:It lets me sum up, say, ten things, but when I try using Ctrl + mouse to grab thirty, I get this error

The Excel SUM function can handle up to 30 arguments—check out the example at this link.

If you're trying to sum non-adjacent cells by holding down the CTRL key and it’s acting up, or if you've got way more than 30 cells to deal with, there are workarounds.

- When you select multiple scattered cells, look at the bottom of your Excel window. The status bar shows you the total sum right there (Sum: ?)

If that's not enough for you, there's a little trick.

Check this link Copying non-adjacent cells in Excel for instructions on how to use the Ctrl key to select them, then just hit a button to paste everything onto another sheet. Just set up your sum formula at the bottom of the column first.
Justin Garcia7 said:Anyone know any solid free tutorials for Word or Excel? Found some killer free course a while back with actual practice files and exercises, but totally lost the link... don't just need theory, I need stuff with examples so I can learn faster..

You didn't say what level you're at?
Not sure what you stumbled upon before, but Google search is your best friend here.

Or maybe this site with step-by-step tutorials (for beginners) would help:

Jose Ramirez44 said:I think I accidentally hit some key or something because now all my Word docs look totally messed up. There's weird symbols everywhere—dots and dashes instead of regular spaces—and this little pi thing at the end of every single line. It's driving me crazy.

How do I fix this?😕

You probably just tapped the "P-shaped" button, which is basically the show / Hide toggle.
So now you're stuck looking at this:

Just click it again to get rid of those "weird symbols." Honestly, they aren't even weird, they actually serve a purpose.😉
You'll find the button right next to the percentage indicator (check out the Word window in the link). You can't really miss it since it looks exactly like the paragraph mark.
Didn't specify which version of Word you're using?
casualbear17 said:How do I just strip all the formatting from the text in one go? I want to kill all those headings so I can just start over from scratch.

Just hit Ctrl+A to grab everything, then click that Normal style. Easy.
casualbear17 said:Or how else can I actually see which Heading I'm working on?

If you want to grab just one specific style, just hit that selection option right in the Styles pane. Like, if you’ve got a Heading 2 and you need to snag all the text tied to it, just click the selection button. If you're using Word 2007, check out the fifth image for the breakdown.Style selection.Or if you're messing around with Word 2003, just check out image eighteen on... Check this link out..

Go watch some tutorials. Seriously.

Samuel Baker3 said:How do I set up Outlook 2007 so when I print an email, it actually shows that there's an attachment included? Thanks in advance.

By default, the attachment filename should show up when you print an email. If that's what you're looking for...

If that doesn't do the trick, check here.
Thomas Wells5 said:So I'm trying to figure out how to set an image to A4 size so it actually fills the whole page.

Inserting images in Word 2007 takes a little bit of basic know-how. First off, if you're scanning an image directly into Microsoft Word, you've got the option to pull in a scanned image via a scanner or some kind of camera
If your margins are set up right, you can get exactly what you're looking for—but if they aren't, and you want different margins, you'll need to tweak the settings.

And look, if you want the image to cover the entire sheet (like a full US Letter page), just set it as the background. Just watch your scan quality/resolution; higher is always better.
Hope this helps you out.

btw: check out the part of the tutorial where they show a scanned diploma set as a full-page background, ready to be filled out using Word.

If you want to drop an image into a Header or footer, check out this guide: Different headers and footers within a single Word document.
Alex Barnes4 said:whenever I double-click it, an Excel window pops up and the whole background turns blue

send a screenshot or the file if it's not sensitive
Alex Barnes4 said:I've got Microsoft Office 2007 on my PC, but I just got this file made in Excel 2010. Any way to open it? Just need to take a quick look at it, don't need to edit anything.

I don't see why you couldn't open the file unless it's one of those rare edge cases like this
driftingpilot8 said:but I gotta keep the bolding in the plain text.
.............. is there a way to nuked every single image in a doc with just one click?

- Man, you're overthinking it.
- To wipe out all images at once just hit Ctrl+H => type ^g in the Find box => smash the Replace all button
driftingpilot8 said:Is there any way to set default font sizes, line spacing, paragraph spacing, and stuff like that in Word?

When you're talking about font or text formatting, yeah, there are plenty of ways to do it.
First, just set whatever font you want as Default... (default)
.

Copying from a website => Go to pasta special = => Paste as Unformatted Text.
graniteranger81 said:Numbers are stacked vertically, one per cell (merged two) and centered.

A bit vague, but give this a shot: How to align numbers by the decimal point maybe that example helps you out.
Joshua Wells3 said:So, we're talking about a thesis here. I need to drop a massive table into Word, but it needs to be in Landscape mode.

Look, since this is for a thesis, you really ought to be using Word styles. It makes building an automatic TOC or table of contents way easier, plus keeps your page numbering from turning into a mess. To mix orientations in one file, you've gotta use section breaks to separate a portrait of landscape. Some of these links point to Microsoft Office 2003, but they work just fine for Word 2007—just look for the commands in a different spot. You could also just build the table normally and rotate it 90 degrees. If you hit a wall, just post here. 😉
Andrew Cruz3 said:I'm a bit uneasy about posting the spreadsheet since it's got sensitive info

Why? Just take my advice.
Just leave maybe 10-20... 50 rows, then wipe out all the extra junk you don't need.
Swap out anything sensitive. Use Find/Replace on names or company titles to just turn them into random letters, round those values down to some two or three-digit numbers, or just rename the columns to something super basic. As long as the structure stays the same, you're good.

Set up a few different versions of the services or whatever key elements you're trying to troubleshoot. Put the raw data you need help with on one sheet, then make a copy of that sheet to show what the results *should* look like—maybe throw in a comment or some text in a cell here and there. That’s it. It’ll be way easier for people to help you, and you'll get an answer faster. Otherwise, we could be posting back and forth forever and still might not crack the problem.
Bradley Murphy56 said:How do I get a screenshot in here so I can show you guys what I'm looking at?

Just open Word, click where you want it, hit Print Screen, then paste it into Word. Set Word to download mode

or
open Paint, go to the spot you want, hit Print Screen, paste in Paint, then upload the image to the forum
Justin Garcia7 said:like, I've got my chapters and subchapters all typed out, and I put the page numbers at the end of each line, but they aren't lined up right... how do I fix that?

Look, if you want a Table of Contents that actually looks decent in Word, you've gotta use Word styles—basically, define your headings and subheadings (Heading1, Hedaing2, etc.). For Word 2007 info, check this link:
Carol Rivera32 said:What’s the easiest way to pull this off? Ideally, just one formula if possible.

I don't think you gave me the "full table." I'm guessing this N/A thing of yours is actually what you meant. #N/A error. Great. Just what I needed. What did you even get out of that VLOOKUP?
Look, if you actually want that formula from the last post to work, you gotta fix that #N/A error first. It’s a dead end until you do. Maybe try throwing an IFERROR or something on it? ISNA or ISERROR.
