Regarding that VSC situation, I actually came across an explanation on another forum that makes sense. Since Sebastian Vettel was leading at the time, Lou ended up spending significantly more time under the VSC compared to him. Because Seb could hit his marks better, he stayed closer to the pit lane entry, which ultimately meant Lou lost out on precious time against him.

First, he just spun out of nowhere—probably the only one to do that today—and then he spent about 20 laps stuck in second place, basically following Alonso's lead.

It seems we're missing one of our most respected members...

If it weren't for strategic calls like that, we'd just be stuck dealing with nothing but fanboys and people who don't know a tire compound from a hole in the wall.

A huge thank you to the Ferrari pit wall.

Ray would have lost first place.

The wheel looked perfectly stable to me. At first glance, it seems like he could have slowly drifted a bit further out to get it off the track entirely.

Well, you can't really know for sure, can you? He sparked right where it was convenient for him. If that wheel had actually come loose, they would have been looking at a massive penalty.

He's German, after all; at least he isn't sporting those ridiculous braids.

Anthony Baker84 said:It certainly feels like luck has decided to hand Sebastian Vettel a taste of last year's "favoritism" toward Mercedes-Benz. If my memory serves me right, there were a handful of races where the VSC really played into the hands of the kitty, while leaving Ferrari completely out in the cold.

Yeah, looks like the tables have turned just a little bit.

That whole situation regarding the Virtual Safety Car circle—well, explaining that is actually a bit more complicated than it looks at first glance. It all really comes down to exactly where you catch the VSC deployment. Besides, I think Lujo might have drifted off for a second there, but that’s only half the story; you'll see much clearer explanations popping up on all the top-tier F1 news sites by tomorrow.😁

Anyway, does anyone have the math on that lap? What actually went down there?

And can someone explain why Romain Grosjean parked his car right where he did? Also, why did we see a VSC first and then a full SC?

He pulled over because they couldn't get the wheel tightened properly; the crew was struggling to handle the car, so they had to call in the heavy machinery, and just like that—boom—we've got an SC.

Lujo absolutely shredded those tires; they were already eight laps older than they should have been. It’s such a shame Kimi wasn't just a little bit faster—he even made that mistake on the final lap—but all things considered, Sebastian Vettel managed to dig himself out of a hole and pull off yet another solid race for Ferrari.
Honestly, these cars are just abysmal when it comes to overtaking. Doesn't the FIA need to step in and clean up the aero regulations again? This current state of affairs is just pathetic.

Simply magnificent, Sebastian Vettel!

I honestly don't think Vettel stands a chance here; on the soft tires, Lujo was nearly a full second faster.

There seems to be a bit of a headache regarding how Haas handles wheel attachments.

Where has everybody gone!?

Tomorrow is going to be absolute chaos. We’ve got four rookies on the grid and a handful of drivers who look pretty shaky as it is—add a little bit of rain to the mix, and we’re looking at a total disaster zone!
I honestly can't help but wonder: does Rajko actually have a shot at overtaking Luja right at the start? I think I’d actually die laughing if he pulled that off.

This is honestly so good that I had to post it in both the McRenault thread and right here.
Do you remember Benny Hill? Well, you’re going to absolutely love this.

EDIT

I seriously can't stop staring at this; if you look at the 0.15 mark, you can see the bubble on the last crane, looking just as shell-shocked as we all are by what's happening.

Hahaha, pig, I honestly think that’s going to become my new official nickname for Valtteri Bottas.

Wait a second, was that Sebastian Vettel at the end running a hard compound or was it Lujo?

Sebastian Vettel.
