Shrek or Monsters, Inc.? in Movies ·
Wait a second... how on earth is Shrek just some big nothing!?
😕

I mean, seriously, why!?😕

Richard Howard2 made things a little complicated there, btw...

Richard Howard2 said:We really should be comparing Monsters, Inc., Ice Age, and Finding Nemo, since they're all aiming for the exact same crowd.

But honestly, if you haven't realized it yet, Shrek is actually way deeper and more complex philosophically... it's basically made for adults rather than kids!

I mean, don't get me wrong, they're all great. We got so lucky with this massive wave of smart, hilarious animated movies coming out of DreamWorks and Pixar after those few years of pure agony with Disney.

Ever since The Lion King, Disney totally wiped me out with their cartoons and

those soundtracks featuring all those divas just trying to out-sing each other... oh, and btw, there was that

hilarious parody in South Park about The Lion King law 😁.

Personally, I'm all about Monsters, Inc. (don't get me started on Nemo, he's my absolute favorite, but we aren't talking about him right now!)

Richard Hernandez13 said:In this country, acting (and art in general) is way too overhyped. Everyone in the industry acts like they're so high and mighty.

I actually really love Ian McKellen playing Gandalf in Lord of the Rings. The guy has decades of theater experience under his belt—he's basically an icon of the stage. He doesn't have a massive filmography per se, but he’s been on such an incredible run lately with all his roles. And the best part? He totally gets the difference between being on stage versus being in front of a camera, yet he still humbly claims he's just a beginner who still has tons to learn about film acting.

...
By the way, regarding this: I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future. That wasn't Dubya saying it—it was actually Dan Quayle, the Vice President, who is honestly one of the dimmest politicians we've ever had in America. People always misattribute that quote to George W. Bush.

Thank goodness Ian McKellen isn't an American actor.🙂

And thanks for the heads up on my signature, deleting the extra stuff right now!👍

Right?! That’s exactly what I mean... I honestly don't even get how Mexicans and Canadians handle it, because with them, everything sounds so smooth and totally natural.

It's definitely the fault of the University of Chicago! Everyone over at the Academy is just so stiff and uptight....

Is it just me, or is American film acting actually kind of terrible sometimes!?

And look, I’m talking about movies here, not theater... but honestly, that’s exactly where the issue lies! They act in movies like they’re still stuck on a Broadway stage!

I really think the Academy should, you know, actually distinguish between film acting and stage acting...

Seriously, when I watch these actors of ours, it’s a total disaster!

Everyone over-enunciates everything like they’re performing at a local community playhouse—it feels so fake and forced, it's just a catastrophe!

Half the time I can't even follow what's happening in American movies because they're trying way too hard to be "clear," and if you asked me? I'd probably put subtitles on every single domestic film we produce...

I mean, I love Spider-Man in the comics, but those movies? Man...😠 they're just these mindless, cringey romances with actors that drive me nuts. And don't even get me started on that part at the end where he grabs the American flag—ugh, just gross.👎 🙂

Honestly, I should probably start a whole new thread just about how often the American flag shows up in movies... I swear it happens like 99% of the time!

Is Depp even carrying this thing?
He’s just wandering around town with his eyes freshly gouged out, doing his job, and then—get this—he actually kills people... jeez.
If Desperado was a dud, this is a dud squared. It's a perfect example of how a star-studded cast doesn't actually guarantee anything.
Enrique looks totally out of place in this flick.
The only redeeming quality, like someone already mentioned, is the soundtrack.

Man, you clearly missed the point! This is one of those movies that acts like a parody without actually labeling itself as one—kind of like how Kill Bill works.

It’s actually a really fun watch because it's basically a giant middle finger to Marietta and Desperado.

And Depp... man, only he could pull that off... that whole bit with the extra hand....😂 ...especially when he's missing his eyes and still managing to miss those two guys.... come on, dude—it's pure Montgomery.😁

How on earth can you call that movie trashy?
I absolutely loved it! I’ve actually watched it two or three times now and it still grabs me every single time. Honestly, it’s easily one of the better recent foreign hits—great effects, solid acting, a really tight story.
👍

Trashy 🙂

Well, hey, that's their opinion, and I guess I'm right along with them, though I wouldn't go so far as to say it's total trash... but, you know.

The movie is a little cheesy (which, full disclosure, I actually love!) and doesn't have much deep substance. But the worst part—don't get me wrong here—is that it isn't just some mindless American junk; it's got that slightly "European" vibe to it.

Anyway, it's definitely worth a watch.👍

It’d probably be a total game-changer if he wasn't being directed by Peter Jackson... man, what a brilliant thought!🙂
Why blondes? in Miscellaneous ·
Can someone please make it make sense for me? Why does everyone insist on calling YELLOW hair "blonde"? Like, if we're being literal, what do you even call it when someone has BLONDE hair?

Honestly, the Hobbit fandom is one of the last places where old-school Tolkien fans can actually hide from those hordes of "superfans" running around with these cheesy grins and Legolas posters clutched to their chests.

Preach!👍
He already messed things up enough with ROTK—he really doesn't need to go and ruin everything else too.

It’ll be fine... if they really want to, they can just throw him into the sequels like they did with Santa Barbara, then everyone still gets to see him...
