stormybadger8 said:Technically true—it’s just that they didn't have to make this ultra-stupid schedule for the practice sessions...

I mean, what the hell is the point of Practice 2 during a weekend like this? Nobody actually knows.
What’s the damn point of a practice session held right after qualifying when the cars are already tucked away in the Park and Ride, and teams aren't even allowed to touch anything significant on the car anymore...
I mean, honestly, what kind of kid thinks this kind of practice session is useful? 🤦

Plus, the sprint itself feels way too short...
And you have to wonder, what is the actual purpose of qualifying if it’s basically just qualifying to qualify...🤦
It would be much more logical to stick to the old format with Practice 1, Practice 2, then Practice 3, where the standings at the end of Practice 3 set the grid for the sprint race and everything else...
That makes way more sense than this whole "qualifying for a qualifying" and "race for a race" nonsense. 🤦

The truth is, you're right about the practice sessions. I think they completely missed the mark here. Your idea about sticking to the old format—having Practice 1, Practice 2, and Practice 3 where the final standings determine the sprint grid—actually makes a lot more sense.
I don't think this setup is actually all that bad. You’ve got qualifying on Friday, a sprint on Saturday, and then the main race on Sunday—it keeps things interesting every single day. It’ll probably get even better when we hit those rainy GP weekends where everything gets chaotic.
Just another loss for Lewis Hamilton. This time, he couldn't even pull it off on home soil.
Raymond Anderson4 said:I realize we're on the final lap and there's no point in overanalyzing things now, but Max Verstappen lost about 1.5 seconds right at the end. I just hope it isn't some mechanical issue with the car.

He was just avoiding any trouble because of the tire wear.

We shouldn't overlook those exclusive private sessions with the Pirelli tires, either. I mean, Bernie paid a massive premium just to get some breathing room from all that legal harassment. If they fleeced him, honestly, they got what was coming.

Of course it isn't some constant. This thing was being built up for years long before the hybrid era kicked in—mostly because they had all the inside info handed to them under the table. Combine that with the engineering talent they basically went out and headhunted from everyone else, and you get the kind of absolute dominance we've seen in Formula 1.

graniteharbor502 said:Only two races have passed. Can any of you honestly bet everything that Bottas won't end up on the podium or sitting in the top two during qualifying at some point later this season?

Well, you kind of answered your own question there. If it rains, nobody’s even going to notice Bottas is on the grid—unless he’s busy dodging debris from some wreck on track.

If the track stays dry, he’ll be scrambling for a podium spot because, let's face it, he’s got the fastest car in his hands right now. Once he moves to a mid-tier team in a year or two, he’ll be completely forgotten.
But all things considered, I think he’ll be happy enough with what he achieves—and when he finally hangs it up, he’ll probably feel the need to erect a 100-meter statue to Nico Rosberg. If it weren't for that, Bottas would just be another Esteban Ocon or Nico Hulkenberg... a perfectly fine, steady, mid-pack driver.

Jason Campbell70 said:People have thrown just about everything at me to try and justify Mercedes's dominance—it’s honestly getting exhausting. You get people bringing up the race in Bahrain, then pivoting to these vague, "subjective vibes" that they somehow compare to driving on a highway, only to loop right back around to comparing it all to last year's race in Bahrain again. It's the same circular logic over and over.

Interesting.

Yeah, honestly. You could take last year’s Bahrain race—or pretty much any other race since 2014, just ignore the ones where Ferrari played dirty with their engine specs—and you’d end up at the exact same conclusion. Mercedes sits at the top when you look at most of the metrics. And look, there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, if we’re being real.

So it's "fun" to beat someone who's clearly outmatched!?

I guess you could look at it that way.
There was all this hype about a massive charge toward second place by the end of the race.
To some people, it's just a dominant car bullying the underdog—to others, it's proof of a driver being an absolute legend.

graniteharbor502 said:Personally, I find it pretty amusing being in a car with an enviable amount of horsepower and just cruising past much weaker vehicles on the highway. I bet Lewis had a similar feeling about it. But honestly, that doesn't change the fact that he was overtaking cars that were significantly slower than they should have been.

I guess this is basically the whole point of everything.
After all, Russell showed us exactly what that Mercedes is capable of back in Bahrain last year.

Jason Campbell70 said:Even with that stellar W12, the second driver at Mercedes-Benz finished near the back in Q3, dropped two spots right at the start, and then spent nearly 30 laps failing to overtake a single soul on track. And I don't just mean he couldn't pass anyone—he couldn't even pull away from George Russell in that damn Williams. A Williams, mind you, which didn't manage to scrape together a single point all through last season.

Honestly, Valtteri isn't exactly the gold standard for performance, especially not this weekend.
Max has been consistently putting him away over the last few years, and the Ferrari drivers have done it plenty of times too—and those aren't cars that were ever better than the Mercedes-Benz anyway.

Honestly, after getting absolutely smoked like that, 99% of them would still be stuck in the gravel trap—just pummeling their steering wheels, swearing their heads off, jumping out of the car to kick at the tires, and all that nonsense...

Does that remind you of when Sebastian Vettel did the exact same thing back in Germany a few years ago? It was raining, he was losing it—hitting the wheel and cursing—and if I recall correctly, he only ended up damaging the wing (or maybe the suspension too🤔)

You just don't grasp the sheer scale of it—the pure artistry he used to claw his way back into the lead pack.

Yesterday, the rule was pretty clear—once that red flag flies, we're looking at a standing start once things get moving again.
So why didn't that happen today? Did they just decide to change the playbook on us again without saying a word?

bluepuma9 said:He got lapped, but somehow still managed to sit in 9th after that restart.
Valtteri Bottas was basically dancing on the edge of the points the whole damn time.

Lewis Hamilton pulled off the fastest lap too—and that’s after grinding through about 20 laps of dirty air.

Yeah, he got lapped and ended up starting 9th, but since everyone was bunched right up at the restart, it was basically just a bunch of easy targets lined up for Hamilton once the track dried out.
As for Bottas, after yesterday's qualifying, he was basically just a tourist in Indianapolis.

cosmicridge5 said:Honestly, more than ever now—making a statement like that puts us on some pretty shaky ground.

But hey, I guess we’d need a quantum computer just to run a decent comparative study on Lujin epic potato 🙏

Exactly.
What we're seeing today is basically like being pulled off the track during a red flag in Nuremberg back in 2007—except back then, the red flag came a lap later, and there wasn't even a rule about having to rejoin the pack with the leaders.
I honestly don't get why they even bothered implementing that rule in the first place...

Jacob Castillo70 said:Look, I’m nowhere near being some Lewis Hamilton superfan—I don't really do the whole fanatic thing—but he definitely showed today why he’s still at the top of the game.

Honestly, he had more luck today than he's seen in the last fourteen years.
Still, you have to give him credit for grabbing that podium spot.
VET and ALO are picking up points, HAM takes the win, one Red Bull retires due to a mechanical failure, and BOT is basically just breaking the system.

boring
Every single year it’s the exact same story—Mercedes, the absolute chaos of it all, and everything just falling apart right around the Spanish Grand Prix.
