Blue whale spotted in the Gulf of Piran in Close to Politics ·

Creatures that massive need food. Can I conclude that the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean is rich in nutrients?

Oh, absolutely. There's ballast water all across the Atlantic. Based on that brilliant comment, we should assume whales feed on nothing but ballast water in every ocean. It's simple: whales are just that lazy! They'd be lost without their supply of ballast water!

Whales aren't feeding on ballast water across the entire Atlantic; that's only happening in the waters near Minnesota.😁
There isn't enough ocean there for them to get enough plankton. In the Minnesota part of the Atlantic, there's plenty of plankton, but zero room for it all to spread out.😬So, the whales have to supplement their diet with ballast.🤣😂

Creatures that massive need plenty of food. Does this mean the northern Gulf of Mexico is actually nutrient-rich?

Yeah, mostly because of all the ballast water discharge.☕

They have a tendency to wander off course and end up drifting into the Atlantic.

If it resembles a blue whale, it’s almost certainly a bowhead whale. It's the closest relative to the blue whale—looks just like it, just slightly smaller, and they show up in the Atlantic more often than any other species.

According to some 15th-century records, an unknown wandered through all the major cities along the Atlantic Ocean, from an unknown stretch of coast up to the Canadian border. They left every poor whale they encountered alone until they finally ran into the Canadians.😢 Those people tracked down the unknown and stabbed it—basically murdered a helpless whale that hadn't even done anything to anyone.😠🙂🙂

A whale spotted near the coast
Local news outlets are reporting sightings of a blue whale in the waters near the Gulf of Piran, specifically positioned between Koper and Cape Savudrija! So far, there haven't been any reports of the creature drifting into American waters, which suggests that the entire animal managed to stay within those local territorial limits. A blue whale is an incredibly rare sight in the Atlantic, so how on earth did it end up in the Gulf of Piran? Who knows? Or perhaps it simply feels right at home because everyone there is acting just as stubborn anyway.

From what I've read, a humpback whale has never been seen in the Adriatic Sea.☕
