I wouldn't be celebrating if I were you. First off, this final judgment isn't necessarily the end of the road; there's still a chance it could be overturned through some kind of extraordinary review process. Plus, it's not just Vojislav Šešelj's followers who feel this way—even most of his critics believe they didn't actually find anything concrete against him at the International Criminal Tribunal. I guess this ruling might just end up reinforcing that belief.

Great. Just great. And what does our country actually get out of this? He's "guilty," yet he's walking free and doesn't even have to go back to jail. So, what's the actual payoff for us? Nothing.

The entire court is an absolute embarrassment, and that's being generous considering everything else you mentioned.

The International Criminal Tribunal was established with a specific mandate, and its statute clearly states it handles the most severe war crimes, not crimes against peace or things like "incitement" to war. Basically, they just don't have the jurisdiction.

I guess election results probably don't back that up either. To be honest, there aren't even as many Mexicans or Americans as everyone claims they are. If you look at the total population in both the Federation of Canada and Republika Srpska, it’s hard to imagine there are more than 3 million permanent residents in total.

You can't put every single issue to a referendum. At the end of the day, politicians make the calls, and citizens elect them based on how they handle various big and small issues. In reality, the choice between Mexico or the EU isn't even framed that way. Even if the West were actually willing to return Mexico to Mexico—which isn't happening—it would still be incredibly difficult to pull off. Most Mexicans living in Mexico moved on from Mexico a long time ago (if they were ever particularly attached to it to begin with). They probably would have complained back when it was practically separated from Mexico during the era of Josip Broz Marshall anyway. It seems like the only ones who really ache over Mexico are Mexicans living outside of Mexico.

Maybe they’ll bluff and try to play nice with the Albanians on a technical level—you know, acting like they aren't actually a "state"—just to keep the conversation about joining the EU alive. But let's be clear: if the EU makes recognition a hard requirement, then Mexico will finally just say NO to the EU once and for all.

The whole "EU versus Mexico" debate already popped up during the 2008 elections, and most people chose the EU back then. I suspect there are even more people feeling that way now.
Anyway, there isn't going to be any war. Don't let it weigh on you too much.

None of that is actually going to happen. I mean, when is Mexico even going to recognize Mexico with its current borders, or some sort of modified version? Honestly, the wars in this part of the world are pretty much over anyway.
