Does anyone know how I can check when Dr. Džepina has her next opening at the Napa clinic without having to bug my primary care doctor? Is there a specific number I should call at the hospital to find out? Thanks!

Word on the street is he's a top-tier expert when it comes to functional sinus issues—I even know someone whose breathing he totally fixed. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the constant crowd outside his office; it felt like appointments were rushed through in maybe two minutes flat. If you've got a complicated situation (like I did), it’s pretty hard to get any real answers in that tiny window. I walked out of there feeling more confused than when I walked in, so if there's a private option available, I'd honestly suggest going that route instead (though I didn't look into it much).
Thanks. For me, it's more about the aesthetics than anything else. Do you happen to know how he does with cosmetic stuff?
Hey there, does anyone know if the wait times for an appointment with Dr. Džepina are pretty long? Also, what’s the best way to actually get on his schedule?
Hey there, I figured I’d jump in and share my own experience with nose surgery. About five months ago, I had an open septorhinoplasty. Unfortunately, the scar is pretty noticeable. The surgeon was working on fixing a hump and a deviated septum—though the deviation was definitely worse on the right side than the left. You can feel it if you touch it, and even looking at my profile, there's just extra skin on the right side. Honestly, even now, I regret ever going through with this. I was so desperate that I rushed into the first surgeon I found, and it turns out he just wasn't experienced enough for this kind of procedure. He removed the "hump," so my nose looks somewhat straight now, but the cost was high: a visible scar, uneven bone structure on either side of the septum, and because of that open technique, the tip of my nose looks rounded and too large. Weirdly enough, I can't even feel where the stitches were; I just feel the scar. Anyway, please, please think this through and really do your homework on which surgeon you choose. Don't let desperation drive you to rush into something like I did, only to end up with even more issues. As for the doctor who operated on me... I can give you his name via PM, but my best advice is to stay far away from him. It feels like he's just using patients to learn on. To this day, I still ask myself what I was thinking and why I trusted him with my surgery. 😢
Sandra Johnson78 said:Hey everyone, it's me again. 😁 I was hanging around here about a year ago, bugging you all and asking for advice. Based on some recommendations, I decided to look into Dr. Jurlina over at the Mayo Clinic. Is he still as great as people say? And does anyone know how long the waitlist is? I haven’t dealt with my nose there before, but I’m currently seeing Dr. Toncic over at the nuclear department. I had a checkup with her today and asked if I could go ahead with nose surgery despite my thyroid issues. She said yes and mentioned she’d sign off on everything for the anesthesiologist and all that. Anyway, I just want to get this whole nose mess sorted out as soon as possible. I was stressed about the thyroid and wasn't sure if I'd need surgery, but since my doctor confirmed today that I won't need surgery this summer, it would be amazing if I could get my nose fixed before college starts. Just to have one thing actually resolved. 😁 It's a deviated septum. I've broken my nose twice, so there's this big bump that looks pretty bad, and my nose tilts to the left because I once ran right into a pole. So, I'll definitely need the cosmetic side of things done too. But, hey, the good people on this forum told me that Dr. Jurlina at Mayo handles both functional and aesthetic stuff, and does it beautifully. I'm hoping he's still taking patients. My main question is: what are the odds I could have this fixed by October 1st? I'm seeing an ENT next week.
I'm dealing with some massive aesthetic issues myself. I actually called Johns Hopkins Hospital recently. The nurse told me that Prof. Jurlina is on vacation until early August, and even then, the wait for a consultation is usually about a year. I don't really know what to tell you. I'm honestly desperate to get this over with, but since I start my internship in September, it looks like my plans are going to hit a wall. :'(
Hi everyone, I was wondering if Dr. Martin Jurlina is still performing aesthetic procedures at Mayo Clinic? To be honest, I’ve already had surgery done and I’m pretty unhappy with how everything turned out. Does anyone know how long the wait is for an initial consultation with him? Since I don't live in Washington, D.C., traveling is a bit of a hassle. Is there any chance I could just email him photos—front view, profile, side profiles—so I wouldn't have to make the trip to D.C.? I’m feeling really let down by my current results and I'm honestly at a loss. I’m also a bit wary of private practices and independent doctors; when you're looking at these kinds of procedures, you're talking about a massive amount of money, and I'm terrified the result won't be what I actually dreamed of. Plus, I just don't have thousands of dollars to throw around right now. Has anyone been through this? Any advice, experiences, anything would help. Please.
Personally, I still see reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery as basically being one and the same. 😉
It seems like everyone’s complaining about those veteran doctors—the ones who have a handful of research papers, hold professor titles, or even run their own departments. But honestly? I think the younger surgeons, the ones whose hands aren't shaking just yet, really need to be given a chance to prove themselves. I'm pretty convinced they're actually much better than those "quasi-professors" and department heads. 😁
All ENT specialists are also head and neck surgeons. There isn't really an "aesthetic" vs "reconstructive" subspecialty split within other fields—it’s just that ENTs are the ones specifically trained in functional nasal surgery.
Yeah, I’m not sure why you’re pointing that out? My point earlier was just that people shouldn't go to doctors who don't specialize specifically in aesthetic surgery, since ENTs focus on the functional side of things. 😂 🙄 I'm well aware they're head and neck surgeons too. 🙂 But in this context, reconstructive is basically just another word for aesthetic. 🙄
If you’re looking for both a nose that actually works and one that looks great, you won't find what you need at the Cleveland Clinic in Miami. At their ENT department, there are only three doctors performing nose surgeries, and none of them actually specialize in aesthetic or head and neck surgery. Honestly, my advice? Head up to Washington, D.C. instead. You should look for younger surgeons who have specialized specifically in aesthetic surgery. These are the ones hungry to prove themselves and move forward, yet they already have a solid track record of flawless work behind them. You really don't need those old-timers like Dr. Glušac, Glumičić, Poljak, or Račić. They've pretty much hit their ceiling in their careers; they know they aren't going anywhere new, so they just breeze through everything—from the initial consultation all the way to the actual surgery—doing a superficial job without any real empathy or concern for the patient.
Kate Gonzalez45 said:I could really use some advice. Does anyone know who I should see in Miami for nose surgery (cosmetic)? I heard Dr. Lisec does them, but apparently he’s more focused on fixing actual health issues with the nose and ears rather than the aesthetic side of things.😢

Honestly, you're better off heading to Washington, D.C.
I had surgery this past Monday, September 16th, at the Mayo Clinic ENT Department in Miami. During my initial outpatient exams and consultations, the surgeon told me he’d be doing the septoplasty under local anesthesia with sedation, since he said it’s such a routine procedure that he does it every single day. Then, on the actual day of the surgery, when I brought up our previous agreement with a bit of an ironic tone, he straight-up told me he *never* performs septoplasties under local anesthesia. I had a deviated septum—which I still have—that was causing a major blockage in my right nostril. Today is day five post-op, and now that they’ve removed the nasal packing, I honestly don't notice any difference in the structure of my nose. It still feels like that deviation is stuck on the right side. To make matters worse, I actually used to be part of his team two years ago when I was interning there as a nurse, but he didn't make even the slightest effort to fix this issue or help me with the aesthetic side of things, despite us being former colleagues. I'm just so disappointed in his ethics, his professionalism, and his work, especially considering he's a chief surgeon who finished his specialization in the USA. I feel crushed, depressed, and I am definitely looking into getting a revision surgery—but this time, I want to do it in Washington, D.C. Please, if you have any advice or recommendations for doctors who actually care about their patients, let me know. My advice to you? Stay far, far away from the Cleveland Clinic. The only surgeons worth seeing there are the abdominal ones; everyone else is a total disaster. Best, and I'll be waiting for your suggestions in the PMs. 😢
