Thanks for the heads-up. 👍
Do you truly accept yourself? in Psychology & Therapy ·

Some days I’m cool with myself, other days? Not so much. One minute I’m feeling pretty damn good about who I am, and the next, I just want to punch myself in the face.
Then there are those rare moments when I don't even give a damn about whether I like myself or not—that's honestly the best feeling. 🤣

It’s like you’re describing me. 😂

Everyone has their strengths and their baggage. Some people just struggle to own their flaws, while others can't handle owning their wins.

There was a decent amount of debate on the Višegrad Group thread over in the European Union subforum about whether America should try pulling closer to Central Europe and actually learn a thing or two from them.

Think about our neighbors in the Midwest—minus Italy, since we share a coastline there, and without Canada. You could even stretch that scope to include the North America (the old America territory plus Albania).
Are people born good or evil? in Psychology ·
driftingbear29 said:No 🥱 I think we all have certain traits buried inside us that could potentially make us act out in unkind ways. It's just part of being human. 😁 But I truly believe those darker impulses can be overcome if you lean into your better qualities 😍 And it all starts with self-awareness and having the actual willpower to change. For me, I tend to be an incredibly reactive person, and in the heat of the moment, that can go south fast. It really has... There have been times when I felt this intense urge to hurt someone. Not through swearing or anything crude, 😁 but by using a sharp mix of sarcasm and cynicism. I know exactly where to aim my words to hit where it hurts most. And afterward? The regret is overwhelming... absolutely crushing. 😢 To be clear, I’m not a malicious or confrontational person by nature—quite the opposite, actually—but sometimes my fuse is just too short. In those flashes of temper, I react in ways that would be completely unrecognizable to anyone who knows my calm side. 🙂 I recognize this flaw in myself, and I’ve worked hard on it. Since I started facing it head-on, there are very few moments left where I let that darker version of myself take control. 😬

🕺

Agreed.
I don't think many people are strictly "evil" or "good." We all have baggage, and if we aren't actively working on ourselves, those darker traits tend to take the wheel (either by choice or just because life happens).

I dig people who are actually upbeat, just not those types that are annoyingly hyper all the time.

I guess I’ll be in the same boat in 20 or 30 years. Seems like everyone eventually hits that wall.

My little one has always been a fighter, but lately, it's like she's on a total crusade. We talk a lot, too. There have never been any harsh punishments; I'm strictly against physical discipline.

I've just been thinking lately about whether we should actually be nurturing this whole negotiation skill in kids... you know, until they hit adulthood.🤣

Nice one.
Reading this thread actually makes me want to write a "teenager's guide for parents" from my perspective, but for now, being the rebellious kid is way more fun.
And yeah, regarding hitting—you aren't actually raising a child that way. You're just raising a kid who's scared of you. They aren't doing what they're supposed to because it's right, but because they don't want to get smacked. Once they hit that age where they're self-aware, man, what a headache. You can't just lay a hand on them anymore (most of the time). But honestly, it isn't easy for the parents, or us, let alone grandparents when they start weighing in too. 🧐🍿 It's a mess.
