How do I dig myself out of a financial hole? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Bryan Gray6 said:I suppose it’s going to be a bit of a struggle for me to pull that off, given that I still have four years left on my current loan, with monthly payments of $667.
To be perfectly honest, I think getting approved for any kind of credit right now might just be an impossible task.

How much of that do you have left? Are we talking 48,000?
You could always head down to JPMorgan Chase to look into refinancing, if you're feeling particularly ambitious about your debt. $33It’s on a 12-month installment plan. $300.

Bryan Gray6 said:I’m about two months behind, and I really need to secure $30,000$0.00.
So, looking at a $15,000 limit, maybe $7,000 on a credit card, and another $8,000 elsewhere.
With $30,000 in total needed, I suppose the question is whether there's actually a bank out there willing to approve that.
We’ve finally hit a steady rhythm with work, so my average monthly income should bump up to around $5,500 over the last three months.
I was thinking about reaching out to someone like SoFi or perhaps a similar loan broker.
I really want to avoid ending up in a spot where my accounts get frozen or I end up defaulting on payments, which would be a mess.

Do you have Online Banking set up with the bank where your payroll goes? You might be able to apply for a Chase quick loan online for up to $5,000.

Honestly, your best bet is just walking into a branch; you could probably walk out with the cash by the end of the day.

If you're looking at those reward points, then for a revolving card and anything spent outside of Walmart, it ends up being like 0.4% via those reward coupons—which isn't actually terrible, I guess. It’s kind of a "better than nothing" situation, even if they are forcing you to spend them at Walmart.

I can't see him listed in my Chase app, though they went on record telling me it was absolutely possible to add him. I’ve already submitted the request twice now, but so far, nothing has come of it. It's just one more thing that doesn't work quite like it's supposed to.

Joseph Turner36 said:If I'm dealing with a client at JPMorgan Chase, can the fees for that Walmart revolving Mastercard be paid through the mail?

Sure you can. You just get a payment slip and a barcode sent to you, but keep in mind you’re required to cover at least 5%.

The statement usually shows up around the 8th, and you really ought to have it settled by the 10th. Though, honestly, they aren't exactly aggressive about it—last month mine didn't arrive until the 11th, and I just handled it that same day.

Oh, one more thing—every time you get a statement, they throw in a coupon for 10% off at Walmart. That goes toward basically everything they carry.

Sent from my iPhone using Reddit

Yes, it’s possible, though you have to go to a Chase ATM and specifically select the installment option on your Mozart card. Just a heads-up: the system claims the first payment and the fee are deducted instantly, but in reality, they usually don't hit the account for about 24 hours. That gives you a little window to move some funds around if needed. If you don't have enough in there, you'll just end up sliding straight into an overdraft, which is a headache nobody needs.

Susan Baker6 said:So, were you guys actually trying to pull out cash on the installment plan or what?

It isn’t really a "request" situation; the bank just decides for you. When my first paycheck hit that account, they automatically approved an overdraft limit of three times my salary. Then, once my third paycheck cleared, they unlocked a Mozart installment option equal to one full salary. It’s all automated based on your history.

Large deposits to my account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
restlessbadger2 said:I’m looking for some advice here. My parents are planning on gifting me about $15,000 in cash. My plan is to deposit it directly into my savings account, but I’m feeling a bit unsure about the logistics. Should I actually bring them along to the bank with me, or is there a more standard way to handle this kind of thing?
Also, does anyone know if the IRS is going to come knocking with a tax bill once that money hits my account? 🤔

Look, if everything is above board, you aren't going to have any issues. However, if I were you, I wouldn't drop the whole lump sum at once. If you break it up into smaller transactions, you won't trigger those pesky red flags with the IRS if the individual amounts stay under $35. For instance, just do three separate deposits of $5,000 each. Space them out—maybe one a week. As for the account itself, you can deposit funds into your own savings whenever you like, provided you're the primary holder or have authorized someone to act for you.

Kevin Morris12 said:Has anyone else who isn't an existing customer tried applying for one of their credit cards lately? I noticed they just rolled out a brand new application form on their website regarding those cards 🙂

I went through the process myself, and they actually approved me in the end. I just filled out the online application for a Walmart card, and within an hour, a banker from my local branch called me up. They needed my ID and my most recent pay stub. Now, mind you, I already have a checking account with them, but I don't have my primary salary deposited there—it all goes to some US firm I do contract work for, earning roughly $1.50 bucks. My take-home is about $15,000. They ended up approving me for a $30,000 limit, which I assume is the ceiling.

Edward Evans7 said:Is it actually possible to withdraw cash in installments using my Maestro checking account—specifically via Maestro cash—if my balance is already sitting in the red? I’m talking about being overdrawn by maybe $30 or $40. I already have this service approved, and I’ve used the installment option for cash withdrawals before, so I'm wondering if it still works when the account is technically negative.

Since I ended up answering my own question: no, it isn't possible. The ATM just shuts you down with an "insufficient funds" message.

When you navigate to the "Maestro installments - check availability" option, it shows: approved: $0.00, available $0.00.

To make matters more confusing, I checked the balance on my dad's Citibank checking account at that very same ATM, and it displays: balance: $0.00, available: $1333. There isn't even an authorized overdraft on that account, so the math just doesn't add up for me.

Which bank should I choose for a new account? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
cosmicviper18 said:Hey everyone,

Which bank generally offers the lowest monthly maintenance fees, followed by the cheapest online banking?
You know that old saying—it’s not that I don't have money, I just refuse to waste it! 😁 😁 😁

Wells Fargo's online banking.

Checking - Maestro (15k overdraft limit, 5k installment option)
Checking - Visa Electron
Foreign Currency - Visa Electron

Digital services:
Online banking (similar to their mobile app)
Desktop online banking

Transactions:
10 free transactions
3 free ATM withdrawals using debit cards at other banks nationwide and abroad

Credit options:
go!Card (revolving, charge, or installments) - no sign-up or monthly fee
Visa FIFA (revolving, charge, or installments) - no sign-up or monthly fee
Visa Gold (revolving) - no sign-up or monthly fee

Total cost: $6.75/month

If you have AT&T: $5.00/month

If you have Magenta 1: $3.25/month

You can open everything via mobile and just transfer a guy $1.75 from an existing account; if you don't even have one, just open it on your phone, swing by a Wells Fargo branch, and you’re done in five minutes.

Ethan Alvarez5 said:Can I use this card to pull cash from an ATM, say $1667(depending on whatever the daily limit happens to be), and then just pay it back over 36 months if I set up that installment plan right at the start?

It’s doable, though you should expect them to hit you with an ATM withdrawal fee; let's call it $67, and that gets tacked onto your very first payment. After that, you're looking at a monthly charge of 138.89, with interest kicking in every four months.

It’s not Deutsche Bank’s fault.

Ah, thanks. The money is supposed to go to New York City, but since I haven't updated my account details, it ends up going to damn Chase instead. At New York City, things usually settle in about 40 minutes.

At 9:17 this morning, a transfer of $330 was sent via PayPal to my Chase checking account. As of right now, the funds haven't actually hit the balance.

What’s the play here?

Should I just sit tight and wait, or is it time to give Wells Fargo a call?

Susan Baker6 said:Anyone got the scoop on how loan processing is moving lately? Is the wait time dragging on forever? A close friend of mine is thinking about switching over to JPMorgan Chase to grab a loan and consolidate her other debt, so I'm trying to see if it's actually worth the hassle.

Look, you aren't waiting forever, though it really just depends on which branch you deal with. If you're going through a broker, you're looking at roughly a week. You get a Mastercard Walmart card right away worth 5% of the loan amount—and just to be clear, the bank covers that 5%; they don't skim it off the top. Consider it a little "thank you" gesture for moving your business to them and taking the loan. Once your first paycheck hits, you get a limit of three times your pay. After the third paycheck, you get a Mastercard Standard with a three-times salary limit, and they'll bump up the limit on your Walmart card to match that three-times salary mark as well.

So much for Bank of America

This morning, they hit me with a request for my checking account statements from the last six months, plus twelve months of transaction history for my savings account. I fired off an email to my personal banker around 10:00 AM, only to get a response at 1:00 PM the following day claiming they couldn't release the records due to privacy laws and data protection protocols. Absolute nonsense. I sent the exact same request to their general info inbox at the same time, and my wife ended up just sending over the certified statements herself anyway. 🤔

And keep in mind, we’re talking about two completely different branches here.
