Well... this one is definitely a long way from being in the top 150 slashers, let alone the top 5... but hey, at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal taste, doesn't it?
I totally get where you're coming from, too, because I often find myself giving a 3/10 to movies that I actually really enjoy.

If that's the case, then you haven't actually seen that many slashers, because isn't it a little funny to have this one in your top 5 when you consider classics like Psycho, Black Christmas, the original Halloween, The Burning, or A Nightmare on Elm Street? Those are absolute masterpieces, not to mention all the other great slashers out there. They aren't all bad, you know?

Well, seeing as you're a fan of that dreadful Supernatural, I suppose it makes sense that you gravitate toward the lighter versions of horror.

Just like any other top ten list out there, I rarely find myself in total agreement, but I’ll certainly give it a shot and weigh in.

Honestly, The Shawshank Redemption is such a fantasy, isn't it? 🤣 It's an incredibly emotional movie, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't touch my heart somehow. It feels inspiring at first glance, but once you really sit with it and let it sink in, there's just so much nonsense baked into the plot. I've never been a fan of those sanitized, "light" versions of prison life, especially when they throw in those nuns who act like thugs or predators but don't actually fit the tone of the story at all. I don't think the movie achieves that heavy, visceral impact it should have because, for the most part, everything just seems too beautiful and perfect.

If I really had to sit down and pick the absolute best American movie spanning from the 70s all the way to the present day, I’d have to go with It's Chinatown. Honestly, isn't Polanski's direction just masterclass level? And having Jack in every single scene? Well, what more could you possibly ask for?
