Why is everyone staring at me? in Psychology ·

Is antinatalism actually a valid philosophy? in Philosophy ·
Gerald Hill said:Regarding those who oppose procreation, I am curious to hear your thoughts. What is your perspective on them, and are there any such individuals within this group? Some advocate for this philosophical stance by viewing life as inherently harsh and devoid of value, often citing the fact that Earth's resources are finite. Do you believe antinatalism is a rational viewpoint, or do you consider it to be unnatural and irrational?

Personally, I think we should aim to reduce suffering through selective breeding, which would naturally bump up mortality rates. Going for total annihilation feels extreme and honestly pretty naive to me. We don't even truly understand what life is or what it could become, yet we want to pull the plug just because we decide it's too painful or worthless.
To me, it feels unnatural. As for whether it's rational, I’d say yes—but only if you're looking through our current, pretty bleak cultural lens. Regarding the people holding these views, I’ve met a few; most are around my age and just seem totally disillusioned with everything. Their existence feels miserable because *they* are miserable, so things like anti-natalism or nihilism feel perfectly logical to them. Meanwhile, people who are actually out there living their lives see things differently, even though they have access to the exact same logic used to justify pessimism. I guess it all comes down to how you feel, and maybe rationality is just subjective.
P.S. I realized I’ve used the word "think" quite a bit lately. Irony intended. 😁

Nathan Doyle said:I honestly can't help but wonder if life feels just a little bit lighter and more straightforward for people who don't believe... like, imagine seeing the world without that whole heavy construction of original sin, pure evil, and this endless cycle of reward and punishment hanging over everything... it probably makes everything seem so much simpler and more beautiful...

You didn't even touch on that post I was talking about...
So, here’s the thing I’ve been chewing on... if God actually wants people to know Him and show some respect, why doesn't He just make Himself known to everyone on an individual basis? Like, why would He expect people living in the 21st century to just take these inconsistent, totally unreliable, and honestly pretty primitive ancient texts at face value—especially when they've been edited and tweaked by who-knows-who countless times over the centuries... If He really is all-powerful, it wouldn't cost Him a dime to just prove He exists once and for all. Is the whole point just that we're supposed to respect God and try to be "good" (because, let's be real, everyone would follow His lead if He just made His presence undeniable and clearly laid out the rules)... 🤷...or is he just testing how naive we really are, though I wouldn't go so far as to call it pure stupidity...

Does this whole life thing feel like some kind of competition among you believers to see who can be the biggest fool by just blindly following along...

So, what happens to the Roosters and Asians? Does their Islam, Shintoism, or whatever else they’re into actually count as much as Christianity, or are they just destined to burn in hell because that "almighty" God somehow missed them... maybe He just didn't realize how many billions of people ended up on the other side of the world...

God works in mysterious ways.
