Nomophobia: Anyone else terrified of being without their phone?
in Psychology ·
I’m honestly not terrified of picking up the phone, but whenever I have to call someone I actually know, I can't help but overthink it—like, what if they’re right in the middle of a delicious dinner or catching some much-needed sleep, and my ringing just ruins their whole vibe? I really don't want to be that person! 🤣
So, most of the time, I’ll just shoot over a text instead because it’s way more chill, you know? They can just hit me back whenever they have a free second, plus they get the full scoop on what I need right away without any awkwardness. When you call someone, there’s this unspoken pressure to pick up immediately, and if they don't, they’re just sitting there wondering why on earth you’re calling them in the first place!
Now, calling up big institutions or places like Chase or the DMV? Totally fine by me, because let's face it, they’re literally being paid to answer the phone and give me the info I'm looking for!
