If YOU are ready to foot the whole bill and personally run around—hitting up City Hall, the police, the inspectors, even booking the bands—to gather every single permit, then go for it. Seriously, let us know. I bet people would actually show up for that.
Though, I don't really see why we'd hit Times Square when everyone knows where Dynamo's home turf is, but whatever.
Does anyone know of any actual serious protests from around the world, specifically football-related, that turned into this kind of carnival?
I've never heard of a protest like this in my life. It sounds more like a labor union rally. Why not just throw in some free beans and sausages while we're at it?
Is that really the issue? Walking over to local government, the cops, or hiring musicians? A pansy protection association has enough drive to organize a rally, yet the Boys don't? If a group wanted to fund it, they'd just need to start a collection at a big derby and pass the bucket around the stands. Besides, it’s not like a protest costs a fortune; most of the money goes to the bands anyway. If it's too much work for the hardcore fans to sing five songs for their own club and they're asking for too much cash, just find some local indie band willing to play for burgers and beers. There are tons of young bands out there dying for a chance to prove themselves. Just improvise a little.
The protest should be at Times Square or Pennsylvania Avenue because, around here, politics and football are basically the same thing. An Englishman doesn't feel the need to show up at Theresa May's doorstep just because he's unhappy with his club, but we basically have to march right up to the doors of Plenković and Bandić.
Regarding the beans and unions... yeah, the goal is to get as many people out there as possible. That's exactly why the Boys have never managed to pull more than 1,000 people to a protest. Back on the Boardwalk, they had speakers, music, and all that "union" stuff, and they pulled 50,000 people together to send a message. The whole country was talking about it. You guys probably think tens of thousands will show up to your little marches to scream about wormwood and headless Mamić. They won't. Regular people want a civilized protest. If you don't care about getting a crowd, fine. Let's just accept that the Boys will never pull more than 1,000 people to a rally.
And one more question: in the last 10 years, what's the biggest crowd the Boys have ever gathered for a protest?
I'm not talking about pre-game marches before big games, but actual protests. Has that number ever even hit four digits? And who's to blame that during ten years of Mamić's tyranny, they couldn't pull more than 1,000 people to a single protest? Who's the culprit? I have my theories. It might be a bit late now, but six or seven years ago, they totally could have mobilized a massive crowd if the core leadership of the Boys actually had the will, the knowledge, and the ability.
