They know exactly what they're doing. They just don't give a damn—not about this, and certainly not about the entire American education system. All they care about is launching some flashy new project or "reform" experiment...

I know. But there are so many new apartment complexes popping up in this neighborhood that it's only a matter of time before they have to switch to double shifts just to fit everyone in. Maybe they'll try to lobby the City Council for an expansion... since we're stuck being the "pilot program," they'll claim we need more space.
Just a guess, obviously. I've got a buddy whose kids go there, and they aren't exactly thrilled about being part of some experimental school setup—especially since the kids are already deep into their specialized coursework.

From what I’ve heard, the principal over at The New York Times thinks this is going to fast-track their school upgrade—apparently they’re planning on adding two more floors...

Plus, you've got schools that are actually decent enough that they aren't even allowed to expand. And there’s zero room in this neighborhood for a new campus. So instead, they'll just force us to use buses to shuttle kids to another district for full-day programs.😁

Joke aside... in NYC, a construction project like this wouldn't be finished for another 10 or 15 years.

For the first time, I'm actually glad my kid is at a school that doesn't meet basic standards...

This whole setup is just awful. We’ve got ten-minute breaks right after the first period—which is ridiculous—plus that mandatory "the world and I" class if a kid isn't doing religious studies. Kids are going to be coming home just to start studying all over again until nightfall... total disaster. Meanwhile, the news is obsessed with how much time they're spending on computer science—maybe an hour a week?—which, honestly, is probably the only decent thing about this mess.

There was supposed to be a public call for schools—or maybe there wasn't, I honestly have no clue. But from what I’ve gathered, only single-campus schools can even apply. Then again, I read somewhere else that it’s only going to apply to the elementary grades at first—basically just for the kids already in after-school programs—but who knows if that's actually true...

It really depends on which bank you're using. Some hit you with monthly fees, while others just charge you quarterly... Personally, I think it’d be totally normal if every bank just billed us monthly, but I know that’s not how things work here.

Honestly, what gets under my skin the most is how overbearing my in-laws are being. Look, I know they love me, but god—the constant unsolicited advice is killing me:
-you need to eat this and that because it's high in iron (I’m naturally pale, but my iron levels are totally fine)
-be careful on the stairs
-watch yourself getting out of the tub, go buy one of those non-slip mats so you don't fall
-go get that fancy linen cloth—I can't even remember what it was—so someone can sew custom towels for the baby😲 - I was so stunned by that last one I didn't even know how to respond, so my husband just chimed in for me since I was completely blanking. And of course, I immediately went out and bought four baby towels just so if they bring up that idea again, I can tell them I'm already covered...

I totally get it...
My cough isn't that bad, but my throat has been absolutely killing me lately—feeling a bit better today though. I just grabbed some propolis spray on my own, even though the label obviously says not to use it while pregnant. Every time I look up a tea to drink, it either says "don't touch" or "use sparingly"... 🙂🙂🙂 I've been drinking lemon teas, but the sourness is starting to get on my nerves, so I figured I'd try sweetening them slightly with some GI control juice 🙂
