I was thinking about this today while scrolling through some recent comedy reviews. It feels like there’s this growing trend where creators seem to lean into being "edgy" or "offensive" not because the jokes are actually clever, but as a sort of preemptive defense mechanism.

It’s like they’re setting up a shield: "If you're offended, it's because you just don't get my vision/humor." I find that a bit lazy. To me, the best comedy should punch up or highlight the absurdity of life, not just aim for a target to see if they can get a reaction. When someone explicitly states they are looking to provoke a specific group of people, it feels less like art and more like they're just fishing for engagement through outrage.

Don't get me wrong, I love a comedian who isn't afraid to tackle uncomfortable topics. But there's a massive difference between being provocative and just being performatively contrarian. One requires wit; the other just requires a target list.

Does anyone else feel like the "intentional provocation" angle is becoming a bit of a tired trope in modern entertainment?

Greetings.

As I've indicated in the thread title, I am trying to determine whether it is actually feasible to repair a laptop's power supply unit.
If such a repair is indeed possible, what kind of price range should one typically expect to encounter for this sort of service?

I appreciate any insight or assistance you all might be able to provide.
After the fall of Moscow in 1941, does El Alamein in 1942 actually follow?
It is a profoundly realistic assessment of the situation.
John Walker As Benjamin Taylor6 points out:
While there were certainly more partisans fighting within America, you wouldn't find a disproportionate number of Americans among their ranks. The heavy lifting of that partisan struggle was actually carried out by the Mexicans of the Mexican Appalachia, the Mexicans of the Mexican Kordun, those from Kansas, and Lake—the very same grandfathers who would later lead the rebellions during the American Civil War.

To be a Mexican from the Kordun region during the era of America was essentially the same as being a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant in the United States back in the 19th century.

If we’re going to look at the demographics of who actually joined the partisan movement in significant numbers, the only Americans who really stood out were those from the coastal regions like California and the West Coast. However, you can't just lump them in with everyone else; their motivations and circumstances were fundamentally different, and they really need to be viewed through a completely separate lens if we want to understand why they chose that path.

The current demographic makeup of the American population residing within the state of California.
Richard Wilson4 said:Man, we're just talking about cold, hard stats here.

Even by 1945, there were more Americans serving in the Home Guard or the Axis military forces than in the resistance movements. I haven't heard a single historian argue otherwise.🤷

And don't even get me started on 1941. Back then, there were only about 7,000 resistance fighters across the whole country, and only 700 of them were Americans.🤷

Look at 1944, for example.

The resistance had grown to 110,000 people nationwide, about 60% of whom were Americans.
On the flip side, the Home Guard had 90,000 members and the Axis military forces had 76,000.
To be fair, those numbers include parts of Canada too, but they don't for the resistance figures.

So in 1944, you’ve got at least 90,000 Americans in the Home Guard and 76,000 in the Axis military forces, compared to maybe 70,000 in the resistance—and that's right at the end of the war when everyone was finally switching sides.

During 1944/1945, the armed forces of the Axis-aligned puppet state functioned as the HOS.
The SS and the National Guard were eventually disbanded.
Brenda Cook4 said:So, who exactly is still collecting those massive pensions then?
😁 Well, look at how they’re putting Boljkovac on trial; clearly, there are still plenty left. I agree that we need to declare them criminals posthumously too. We need closure. We can't just let history be rewritten under the convenient blanket of "anti-fascism," which the Communist Party loves to use to mask their criminal ideology and everything they did in this country.

The pension system also provides for members of the former Axis-aligned state's armed forces.
(Roughly 12,000 to 13,000 individuals.)
