Friendship and common ground in Psychology ·
ambercrane722 said:What’s your take on people who constantly play down to someone else's level, whether they're dealing with a total pushover or actually someone smarter than them? In the first case, they’re basically just looking for easy prey—someone naive enough to be a perfect target for manipulation, whether it's an employee, a partner, or just some friend they can twist around their finger. But when they run into someone truly sharp and genuine, they pull this fake act where they pretend to be just as smart just to fit in, even though they're totally different underneath. It’s all a game. What kind of people actually click, and why? Is jealousy baked into our DNA? And honestly, how many people are actually real once they strip away all those social masks we wear? Why do we gravitate toward certain people while ignoring others? Do you guys actually respect people who are smarter than you? I was just hearing this story about two high-flying narcissists in the corporate world who were supposed to be best friends, but it was pure poison. One was constantly sabotaging the other, stabbing him in the back, and turning his back the second things got good—he just couldn't stomach the other guy having more success. Can two powerhouse personalities ever actually be true, honest friends, or are they always going to see each other as threats? What is the human psyche actually made of? Are any of us truly equals?

well, sometimes they can and sometimes they can't... it isn't just about being a strong or weak person, it's about how all those other traits mix together, so you get all kinds of different combinations...

if power, success, or big money are involved, then things can get pretty dirty. you really have to look at the specific context, because it usually comes out if the situation makes that friend feel like a "threat" because of their success, rather than just hating on the success itself...
Love or Power? in Psychology ·

I mean, I truly believe that love is just pure acceptance—embracing yourself and letting another person be exactly who they are, without trying to fix them or anything like that.

Nah, that's what real, mature love looks like 😁

Time passing and all those life lessons we pick up along the way really shape who we are, right? Not to mention our environment. It’s everything.

I honestly think character can change—and sometimes, maybe it *should* change. It probably feels a lot easier to make those shifts if you actually have some self-confidence backing you up.

A lot of people have been burned by life before. They've dealt with enough disappointments. So, instead of constantly fighting an uphill battle, they might just choose to take the path of least resistance.

honestly, sometimes you gotta let things slide, and other times you gotta fight back. depends on the vibe...
Women's mental health issues in Psychology ·
It’s usually women dealing with all sorts of deep-seated issues who do stuff like this.

Does anyone remember that case from back in the 80s involving those two figure skaters? They were Americans right before the Olympics. Basically, both were elite athletes training for the Games... the only difference was that one was a total knockout, a complete bombshell, and she was the huge fan favorite just because of her looks... the other one was pretty too, obviously, but she didn't have that "runway model" vibe that gets you promoted... so she just snapped. She had a super messed up childhood and skating was literally her entire world (total decompensation), so she talked her husband and a few others into ambushing the pretty one after practice and burning/injuring her ankle... that's how it went down. The first girl couldn't make it to the Olympics, and the second one denied everything until the police actually proved she was involved. There are clips on YouTube about it, but man, it's pure pathology.

Honestly, at some point in our everyday lives, we’ve all probably run into someone just like that in high school, college, or even at work...
