Accounting for Sole Proprietors: Tax & Bookkeeping Tips in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Aren't those local government grants given to small business owners actually considered taxable income?

I was just handling a tax return for a freelancer who had all their bookkeeping done elsewhere and just handed me the paperwork, but I wasn't about to be lazy and just take their word for it. So, I dug through everything, only to find out that the grant isn't being treated as income. The guy who handled the books is telling me, "No, that doesn't count as revenue." Am I losing my mind here, or am I just exhausted? Hahaha.

The same thing keeps popping up for me, so I just print it out and send the form over for manual entry.

Has anyone else run into a situation where the assets are fully depreciated by the end of the year—meaning the book value hits zero at year-end? I can't make the math work; there's no way it should pass. It feels like there's a glitch in the system somewhere.☕

Does the IRS website and everything else actually work on Windows 10?

I'm filing under the old rules for section III.6, and since I'm doing things by the book, I have to include a detailed explanation along with my sales tax return.

If not, I have no clue. 😁 Sorry! 🙂

Thanks, but we aren't talking about services here—it's goods and the sales tax paid on July 14, 2013.

What happens with the sales tax when a freight forwarder hits you with a charge on goods that were sitting in a bonded warehouse back on June 30, 2013? The supplier is coming from the USA, so where does that even fall in the books?

I figured it out. If you're running into the same headache I was, just try sending it through Chrome—it actually works.

Ever since they rolled out that new app yesterday, it keeps telling me my digital signature isn't valid on the forms. So, naturally, I try calling their customer service line, and of course—nothing. Not a single soul picks up the phone.

wearybison18 said:So, I’m the accountant for this firm, right? And they recently started using the IRS e-file system. They have their own digital certificate and everything... So, I prepare the forms perfectly, send them over, and they upload them to the portal. But here’s the kicker: they list me as the individual who prepared the form, and—get this—it keeps getting rejected because the signature isn't authorized. It’s infuriating! My question is... is this happening because they’re naming me as the preparer when I don't actually have a formal Power of Attorney on file? Or is there some other ridiculous technical glitch causing this headache?

Just give their help desk a call and find out what's actually broken. Honestly, those guys mess things up all the time.
They’ve got one company listed on my digital profile that doesn't even show up on my account statement, and then there's another company where nothing seems to be processing at all.
I see we’re all getting hammered by our partners lately. It probably stems from the fact that we expect them to hold us like we're made of glass while our hormones are basically running a complete takeover of our brains—and honestly, they just don't get it.
The way most of you are describing your partners sounds exactly like my husband during my first pregnancy. I was miserable because he seemed totally indifferent to everything I was going through. Worst of all? Once the baby actually arrived, he spent the first couple of months looking completely clueless about how to even handle a newborn. I really think that if it's their first kid, they’re just lost. They suddenly find themselves stuck with a wife who is a total stranger because her hormones are doing their thing—one day everything is fine, the next day it's a disaster. In those first few months, the baby needs a mom, and frankly, they don't feel needed. Not that I'm making excuses for them, but I think they need some time to figure out their footing too.

And look, when a baby comes along—especially the first one—it changes everything. It changes you as a woman and a mother, and it changes him as a husband and a father. If there were any cracks in the marriage before, they are going to widen now. When people warned me about this, I thought, "Yeah, right," but man, was I wrong. A baby changes your entire world.

If it helps at all, I’m pregnant again with our second. My husband (knock on wood here); he’s taken over almost all the heavy lifting regarding our oldest. He’s always asking if I need a back massage, insists on rubbing lotion on my legs, and constantly checks in to see how he can help. He reminds me every single day not to stress out at work (which, let’s be real, is impossible) and told me he’d love nothing more than to send me off to a quiet beach resort just so I could relax and enjoy this pregnancy without a care in the world. He’s always asking if I’m craving something specific so he can go grab it, and he’s even suggested we hire a housekeeper so I can just take it easy.

In this pregnancy, it’s pretty obvious he’s actually enjoying it; he’s already obsessed with baby gear. To all the ladies reading this: hang in there. Just push through it—things will eventually get better, you’ll see.

Oh, and something that totally caught me off guard during this pregnancy? I have an intense craving for apple cider vinegar. I haven't touched the stuff in my entire life.

wearybison8, why does it have to be a woman? I’ve got Mladen Stracenski right here if you want a male recommendation instead.

I don't have one, but honestly, I wouldn't go to him if I were you. We used to be his patients, but now we see Dr. Djapic privately.
