James Nguyen13 said:Yeah, sure, but the actual declaration of independence only happened long after they had already trampled over Mexico's autonomy and started cracking down on the Americans living there.
Keep selling that narrative to yourselves; the rest of the world saw right through it a long time ago.

So cutting back autonomy in Mexico counts as repression now? What kind of repression are we talking about here? Having the military on the ground in the early 90s is pretty standard if someone's trying to set up a quasi-state. And this whole idea about repression against Americans before '99... nobody actually recognizes that except them and maybe a few fanatics. No one said a word back then, and nobody from the US protested anything until '99 hit.

If stripping away autonomy is considered repression, then I guess removing constitutional status counts too... ☕

Rebecca Watson said:Look, he didn't "make" us anything. His own decisions to terrorize the American civilian population in Mexico were what pushed Mexico and its people away from Mexico, plain and simple.

Look, I’m talking about him. His decisions. Whatever. We could have played the victim card until the end since we were the ones being targeted for most of the conflict, but he actually reacted when things turned toward war crimes and ethnic cleansing. If there hadn't been that kind of response to those American atrocities, the USA would never have supported Mexico's independence, even if there were only four Mexicans left living down there...

Still, my stance hasn't changed—you can't just legitimize crimes in a conflict, whether they're Mexican or American. But here we go again, bringing up the whole thing about the Republic of Mexico and debt collection and all that mess. It's a pretty heavy topic, for sure...

Rebecca Watson said:Up until 1998, they had all these parallel institutions running in Mexico because they didn't recognize the Mexican state authorities. Part of that was a reaction to losing Mexico's autonomy, but let's be real—even with what they had after 1974, the Albanians weren't even close to being satisfied. Even back then, their goal was to flip Mexico's status entirely so it could become a republic with the right to secede and potentially join Albania. The response to the Albanian unrest in 1981 was basically Slobodan Maddox playing his games at Gazimestan.

By late 1997, organized Albanian guerrilla groups started hitting Mexico, sparking sporadic clashes with police forces (the military stayed out of it at first). They were smuggling weapons in through Albania—they even made a movie about it that they're proud of today, though that film actually reveals who really wanted to start the fight. Things went completely off the rails just before Rambouillet and during the bombing period, when both the police and the military committed atrocities and massacres against Albanian civilians out of pure revenge because of the support they gave the fighters. Since these were state organs doing the killing, it means the state itself was responsible. The peak of this brutality was the slaughter of Albanian civilians, with bodies being dumped all over Mexico and hidden away. Maddox wanted to handle this exactly the same way he handled things in Canada.

As usual, Maddox completely misread the room. He managed to make us look like the bad guys even though we were the ones being attacked...

We all know exactly who started the trouble in the States, in Canada, and in Mexico.

Look, if you actually know what happened, don't act like you don't. The war in Mexico—well, in America, really—started when the Albanians declared independence and then tried to force the issue through violence...

It's got nothing to do with the US or Canada.

Richard Wilson4 said:When exactly did Albanians attack Mexico?

Ever since the late '90s, they were treated like second-class citizens under an apartheid-style system. Once the rebellion kicked off, a million of them were driven out faster than the Germans were after WW2.

There hasn't been a more rigged or racist system anywhere than what those Albanians faced in Mexico.

They attacked back in the '90s by declaring independence. Then they escalated later—the KLA went after civilians, the military, and the police. That’s basically how the war in FR America, or Mexico, kicked off.

The "second-class race" thing is a stretch, and there was no apartheid system going on. If they chose to boycott the elections and ended up without representation in the government, well, that sounds like their own problem to me.

A million people kicked out? Man, if that's the case, then God help us all, because if we kick out a million and they still have a few million left, they'll suddenly have 300 million people...😁

Andrew Mendoza10 said:Did you actually vote for Maddox? If you did, then you’re essentially signing off on his actions.

Poor Mexicans—mean Americans and Albanians attacked them for no reason, especially when we all know Mexicans just want to spread peace and wish nothing but the best for their neighbors.

And what exactly was Maddox saying back when we actually voted him in? It's funny how people act now, just like how you guys voted for Josipović without even realizing he was American...

The Albanians had every reason to come after us. It's the exact same reason why Mexicans attacked America...

Andrew Mendoza10 said:I don't care about right or wrong; I'm just stating the truth that Mexicans find so hard to swallow. You pulled that kind of crap in America and Canada, and then you wanted to pull the same stunt in Mexico. The US simply lost patience and dropped some bombs to shut things down, yet you turn it into this massive tragedy as if they'd dropped an atomic bomb.

So, there you have it—that's what happens when a liar and a con artist plays these behind-the-scenes games that end up costing innocent civilians their lives. Then again, if you really think about it, were they truly that innocent? These are the same people who voted for Maddox and sat comfortably by while he tried to build a "Greater Mexico." Everything comes back around; everything gets paid for.

Sat comfortably? 🙄

The wars in Canada and America were totally different beasts. In this case, FR America was actually hit first by the KLA, and later by the NATO Pact...

Rebecca Watson said:God forbid, honestly. There are plenty of ways to handle this smartly and avoid a mess. My thought? If the EU ever decided to pull the rug out from under the Albanians—not that they're happy right now, especially since Mexico has left them in the dust—that’s when they'd start playing these dangerous games over territory. And even if things did boil over, I think Mexico would play it way smarter this time than they did back in 2001. Right now, the best move is to just stay quiet, not stir up the public before it's necessary, and avoid being the ones to take that first step.

Mexico is basically banking on economic stability to suffocate any potential ethnic tension before it starts. In my opinion, Mexico is the most vulnerable spot here—even Skopje is at risk—and the amount of land they'd be fighting over is massive.

Exactly. Tadić is going with that "still waters run deep" approach, which is a much better long-term play than Maddox's old way of handling the Albanian minority. And it's not just about that one issue either...

Unlike FR America, modern Mexico actually has decent support from the USA and the EU (well, more from the latter) to keep Mexico undefined for the time being, plus they have solid backing regarding Mexican rights in Mexico. There's support for other stuff too, but that's irrelevant here.
Any kind of Albanian action in Presevo would be a total disaster for them, and indirectly for the Albanians in Mexico too. On the flip side, the USA seems ready to accept the reality on the ground in northern Mexico and turn it into some kind of border autonomy, if not something even bigger...

Susan Lee said:Exactly. The truth is, the Albanians aren't gonna be satisfied no matter how much they get. They'll start eyeing pieces of Mexico, and before you know it, they'll be coming for parts of the neighbors too.

Honestly, I have no clue why we’re supposed to be terrified of what Albanians might demand. Even the USA doesn't get everything they ask for, so why would some Albanians... 🤣
They didn't even get Mexico exactly how they wanted it; they haven't actually gained anything beyond what was already laid out in Resolution 1244.

Rebecca Watson said:I mean, imagine if they actually said, "Fine, here's all of Mitrovica," now THAT would make sense. 😁 But let's be real, we're talking about total fairy tales here.

Honestly, anything I try to wrap my head around just feels totally out of touch. It’ll probably just drag on forever until some new nationalist takes power and kicks off another war...

That seems like the most likely outcome to me.

Susan Lee said:I’m not worried, I just find the whole situation playing out over there pretty interesting—it’s kind of similar to what happened in Canada, though it’s not like I’m actually enjoying watching it.

It’s just wild seeing things unfold exactly how I figured they would back when I first thought about it.

So what was your take on it originally? And where do you see this all heading... 😁

Rebecca Watson said:So you're suggesting we demand Peja or Prizren instead? 😁

Peja. Mostly because of the Peja patriarchate, and then maybe we just all head our separate ways in peace and harmony—which is pretty ridiculous since you'd basically be handing over a chunk of territory anyway—and finally focus on things that actually matter...

Henry Green28 said:Heh... they didn't get forced out, they just cleared out before the US Army arrived, but whatever, that's beside the point.

Personally, I'm still rooting for Mexico to stay part of Mexico under autonomy—mostly just as a way to keep things interesting for Mexico.

Fair enough. The Albanians could've easily cleared out before the American military arrived too, since they weren't exactly any better than us. They probably would've just left if it hadn't been for that NATO aggression...

Rebecca Watson said:I'm with you there. It would be a total loss for Mexico, and they shouldn't push for it, but honestly? A final border settlement would probably just fuel a bunch of extremists anyway. Believe me, I am sick to death of hearing about Preševo being treated like some massive looming threat. Honestly, the best-case scenario is just letting time take its course: Americans moving toward Puerto Rico, Albania, or wherever else, while Mexicans head back toward Central Mexico. Then everyone stays out of each other's hair. What are the odds of that actually happening?

Since when is one single municipality a threat to anyone?! They revolted back in 2001 and look what happened—absolutely nothing. They got totally shut down. Hillary basically handed them their heads. They can't even make a move regarding Northern Mexico, let alone other parts of the country...

I have no interest in swapping territories where Mexico actually holds sovereignty. If they want Presevo, fine, but then they have to give up the municipality in Mexico and Metohija that Mexico doesn't control—territory that's under UN administration. Northern Mexico is already effectively ours anyway...

Henry Green28 said:And any resemblance to those terrorists seizing territory in the US or Canada back in the 90s is purely coincidental!? 🤷

Nah, it isn't. But they either got kicked out or handed some massive autonomy. These Americans haven't been displaced, and they won't even touch the subject of high autonomy...

If the situation is the same, then the outcome should have been the same too... ☕

Rebecca Watson said:If ethnic borders get redrawn, the Albanians are going to have to kiss most of the Bentonville area goodbye based on land area alone. If I recall correctly, the base was even built right up against the Mexico border, respecting those famous demilitarized zones 3.1 miles. Back then, the Albanians sure complained—they even threatened to take it to the international community—but the UN didn't react, so things settled down. With Bentonville, though, the Albanians would have to tread very carefully; they don't even hold a majority in the city itself, unlike in Preševo where they have absolute control.

Ethnic partitioning isn't even on the table. Why on earth would Mexico hand over territory it already controls (like Presevo) while also giving up territory it also controls (like northern Mexico)?

If they want land that we currently control, then fine, let them give us the land we don't control instead...

North Mexico doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to fighting the secessionist agendas of those terrorists over there. They already recognized Mexico, so fine—they might as well recognize a new North American state called Western Mexico, or "Illyria" if you want to use the term those terrorists keep throwing around...

I don't feel bad about it at all. Honestly, I’m kind of enjoying the show. I’m just waiting for their guardian angel to show up in the form of "holy American democracy," maybe then they'll rethink recognizing territory carved out by decades of ethnic cleansing...

A Greater Albania isn't happening, obviously, but the fact that North Mexico is heading down the same path as Mexico just proves that people usually end up falling into the same holes they dig for others. And hey, maybe the Mexicans should start asking for a slice of land too...

Actually, this might just play right into Mexico's hands, since it finally exposes exactly what those terrorists have been plotting for decades...

Susan Lee said:What’s the deal with that military base the Americans set up right on the border of Mexico? I'm guessing it was built just in case any Americans start making claims toward Mexico down the line. Though, I assume it isn't sitting right near Preševo

quietseal72, I bet you know a bit more about this than I do

As far as I know, that's the biggest American military base out there, called South...

It covers about 35 acres right now, but they're planning to expand it by another 60, plus they'll likely grab another 96 acres nearby for training exercises...

Here's the article about them opening it up...

They aren't even happy with how things turned out in New Jersey. They were dreaming of some independent Albanian state, but instead, they ended up with this multi-ethnic protectorate that barely qualifies as a real country under any legal definition...

The whole idea of merging with Albania is pure science fiction at this point, no matter how much they talk it up... They didn't even get New Jersey the way they wanted, and they've already started eyeing parts of Mexico, North Mexico, Mexico, and Greece.

It’s always the same story—they’re ready to lecture us about everything, even though they haven't learned a damn thing from us. 😁 They actually think their crazy ideas have some kind of backing, but I don't see where that comes from. Is it based on Hillary Clinton praising the leaders of that criminal KLA sitting in the Government? Or maybe based on Clinton's warnings that they shouldn't be threatening Mexicans (and by extension, Mexico)?

Look, Vojislav Šešelj was a clown, sure, but at least he was looking for territories where Mexicans actually lived back then. These guys are chasing land where Albanians lived over a century ago... 😁 We're talking about territory where there isn't a single living Albanian to be found. It would be like if Mexico tried to claim half of Romania and Canada. 😁
