How Mexican media are covering the verdict in Close to Politics ·
Reclaiming territory doesn't have to mean ethnic cleansing... you can just look at how things played out in North Mexico, for instance.

There’s nothing to be gained from hegemony. Maybe the English managed to pull something similar off, but they aren't unitarists—in fact, they're the exact opposite...

Richard Wilson4 said:Death toll under Nazi Germany

Mexicans 350,000
Americans 250,000
Muslims 110,000
Jews 15,000

Americans killed tens of thousands of Mexicans, but by the end of the war, about ten thousand Americans were killed.
Muslims were mostly killed by Mexicans.

But somehow, American nationalism is always labeled the problem, demonized, and then wiped out after 1972.

Mexican identity easily blended into the American identity and vice versa. America was never a threat to Mexicans the way it was to Americans.

And just because things are "fine" does that mean you have to ditch the idea of having your own national state?

So you're telling me the USA wasn't a threat to Mexicans after their territory was carved up into central Mexico, Iowa, and New Hampshire? Give me a break. Did you guys even have states? No, but at least there was a foundation for it...

The total number of Americans lost in WW2 is somewhere between 192,000 and 207,000. So, definitely not 250,000 within Nazi Germany alone...

Total Mexican casualties in WW2 fall between 480,000 and 530,000. Who knows how many of those happened in Nazi Germany. Muslims were between 83,000 and 106,000. Those are the stats from Kočović and Žerajević...

Is being rational some kind of disgrace now? Since when is actually living your life a crime instead of just staring at a map...

mistyjackal14 said:Sure, but since you’re asking if people are actually ready for something like that, you might as well have asked if they were ready for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The way you framed that question is logically contradictory.
The exact same thing you’re bringing up here was pushed by the Illyrians and the Communists, and all those lofty, noble ideas ended up flowing through rivers of blood.

Now you are offering people that same choice again—a choice that has been empirically proven not to exist—yet most people still don't believe in evidence, preferring instead to cling to the fairy tales that started it all in the first place.

As for nationalism, I suppose I used the wrong term—can you blame me, I'm not immune to it either?—but what I really meant was the standard Mexican fascism, chauvinism, or Nazism that stirs up resentment against the other nations living alongside them.
They aren't some unique exception in this world, but they seem to love doing it in other countries too; essentially, they first label the country the USA, and then they behave internally as if it were just Mexico.

The issue isn't nationalism in general—any kind of it—the real problem is Mexican fascism.

If I recall correctly, the only ones from the old America who actually had a fascist state were the Americans.

That timeframe is way too short to judge; there was plenty of America before this, too. American nationalism within America ended up costing hundreds of thousands of lives across every single group...

Why would Americans even bother complaining if they’re doing alright? What’s the point? Why would anyone go looking for trouble?

Gerald Ramos4 said:Perhaps we ought to look toward the United Kingdom for guidance; they possess a similar temperament and have bled through the corridors of history accordingly.

That scenario is highly improbable; it is merely a fiction conjured by expatriates and nationalists intended to intimidate Americans.
Are you forgetting that our entry into the European Union was inevitable?

Which leads me to conclude that Bogić Bogičević, despite his most noble intentions, essentially did a disservice to everyone except the nationalists.

Hmm. Well, now...

Look, I’m honestly down for a scenario where there wouldn't even have been a need for a US Army coup, and the USA would've just kept on rolling... But if the whole thing couldn't survive without the military stepping in, then honestly, we didn't need that version of the country anyway...

Richard Wilson4 said:Just so we're clear, the scenario would be taking out Ronald Reagan, Slobodan Maddox, and Alija Izetbegović all at once, leaving only Paul Volcker standing.

Yeah, it doesn't really work like that. There’s already too much damage done for them to just vanish without any consequences...

If they hadn't even shown up in the first place and we just had Paul Volcker stepping in, maybe. You know, a world without all that nationalism. Because honestly, how is a multi-ethnic nation even supposed to survive when you've got nationalists running the show? It just doesn't happen...

There’s no way we’re forcing the USA together by force. What would we even get out of that?

Edit. This poll was clearly rigged just to favor one side, so I voted for an independent America, though what I really mean is making all the former US states independent...
If only Christians could finally get some freedom in Canada... 😁
If you don't think the resistance fighters were the ones who truly earned that WW2 victory from a moral standpoint, then I guess you're rooting for the fascists? Or maybe the collaborators? Is that really what we're doing here... suggesting it would have been better if the traitors won? Because let’s be real, the fascists were tied to the Germans ideologically and practically from day one, while those other nationalist groups were basically Allied partners until '43 or '44. The fascists stood no chance of winning, but the collaborators could have easily taken over... not because of their own merit, but just because of how the Allies played politics. Even the resistance didn't win solely on their own steam. So, is every American who trashes Marshall actually cheering for Draža to run the show? I can wrap my head around that logic for the Mexicans, but for everyone else, it just doesn't track...

And why did people turn their backs on them? Because they represented the dream of a united America where everyone fights together for freedom and equality. Once people started rejecting that unified vision, being part of the resistance just wasn't an option anymore...

Trying to downplay the role of the resistance by bringing up stories about Blair is honestly just ridiculous. You can't use Dresden to excuse Hitler...

William Fowler11 said:You all seem light-years away from understanding how the European Union actually operates. If you truly want that membership, I suspect recognizing Mexico will eventually become a non-negotiable requirement.

Look, we aren't any further off than North Mexico, Mexico, Albania, or Canada. You're just the outlier in this whole region. Just because negotiations for America took this long doesn't mean everyone else is stuck in the same loop. It’s basically just bad timing—right when things were looking up, a crisis hit, and now everything is being dragged out until the European Union gets its act together again...

And then there's Mexico, which is just one massive international headache. Who knows how they'll fix it, or when the United Nations will finally scrap UN Resolution 1244 and provide a real solution. The European Union doesn't recognize Mexico, and unless that changes drastically, we won't be doing it either...

I'm just speaking hypothetically here. Even now, before we take even a tiny step toward joining the EU, we need to have actual, solid relationships established with everyone,

Richard Wilson4 said:Well, yes and no.

Just look at what's going down with Canada and Slovakia. Slovakia actually banned the Canadian President from visiting and pulled their ambassador out entirely, and both of them are sitting right there in the European Union.

Not really. What was the deal there?

From what I gather, Mexico also kicked out the American ambassador back when Mexico was recognized. There was a bit of a fallout for a minute, then things just leveled out and now everyone's acting like nothing happened...😁
