GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
That GPU from $833 isn't going to cut it with that setup 🙂—the CPU is way too weak for that kind of power. Plus, it really depends on what kind of power supply you're running... if you go with something like an HD 4870 or an Nvidia gtx 280, that processor is definitely going to be a bottleneck. You might be better off grabbing an Nvidia gtx 460 and a fresh CPU, then just offloading the old gear—though that depends on your motherboard and PSU. Finding a new 48xx series is unlikely for less than $333, but you could probably snag some used ones for $233 or even less... honestly, though, a new CPU paired with the card below is likely your best bet. It's got DX 11 support, too...

And I’m looking at that 4870/90... it's priced basically the same as a brand new 5850/6850 😁
... what a joke...

They’re just flooding the market with these cards lately—makes me miss the days when we actually had stuff like the 9600pro/xt 😁

Total joke—they drop the newer model and it’s somehow even weaker than the last one... 😁

Why's the 6850 cheaper than the 5850?

Thanks, I posted my offer there—we'll see how it plays out... 🙂

Is there actually a subforum here for selling used cards somewhere... 🙂

Picked up a Seasonic 520W at Best Buy today—pretty happy with the deal 🙂 just one quick question though... I plugged in the 24-pin and the 4-pin CPU connector, but there's another 4-pin right next to it—is that okay to leave alone 🙂 anyway, I'm satisfied with the specs—it's got 6 SATA ports, 6 standard connectors, and even two 6-pin PCIe rails 😉 so I'm planning to upgrade the GPU down the road without worrying about the power supply... was thinking about grabbing a used 8800 GTS—how does that card actually stack up against the ATI 48xx series?

Try reseating the RAM sticks and pulling the GPU out—just pop them both out and click them back in... might fix it.

Missed that 😢 But if we're talking about gaming—if you can actually scrape together enough for a GTX—it’s definitely the better move...

Heh, the 5770 is definitely faster than the 5750... by maybe one single frame per second, if you're lucky 😛

Nvidia takes the win, but for those $167 extra bucks, I honestly don't think the performance jump is actually that massive... http://static.techspot.com/articles-.../3Dmark_01.png The 5750 pulls about 220W, while the Nvidia GTX 460 280W jumps up during heavy titles like Crysis—where you might see a 20 FPS difference—but then you look at the 1GB Nvidia GTS 450, which ends up costing $100-$$67 more than the 5750, even though benchmarks show it's only slightly better... http://img.hexus.net/v2/graphics_car...GTS421/Cr3.png
Overclocking (Main Thread) in Desktops ·
Heh, there's no way you're hitting those temps with that card—not happening. Can anyone tell me if I can actually bump up the voltage on an NVIDIA GeForce GT 210 for some extra overclocking? Once I push it past 800-870 MHz, my games just start crashing...

They cooked up something for the Xbox... probably just a precursor to what they'll eventually roll out for the PlayStation 3

So this Generic PC I've had for nearly a year—it finally cooled down and is just blowing cold air now that I've opened the case... Honestly, I can never seem to scrape together enough for a decent power supply, there's always some something getting in the way... Looking at the specs, it puts out 8A on 12v1 and 14A on 12v2, plus 15A on the +3.3V and 20A on the +5V... which probably isn't exactly great news either http://www.rhw.hu/feltoltes/cikkszam/300XX.jpg

Not trying to start a whole new thread here, but my power supply is running insanely hot -.- I just cracked the side panel open... would it actually help if I let some warm air out?

My 400W power supply held up fine with the 4850 😁 but then those planes started appearing... haha

ran it through FurMark and some 3DMark tests without any issues🙂

The only thing I didn't bother with was Prime or whatever else—just didn't feel like it..
I just wanted to see if the damn thing would actually turn on and work..🙂

Heh, good thing you didn't push it too hard—otherwise you'd be stuck buying a replacement from Best Buy😛

Lol, someone please tell me how these stack up against this one: http://hardverapro.hu/dl/upc/2010-08/154233_inno.jpg an Inno3D 8800GT 256MB 256-bit vs. this HD 2600XT DDR4 http://www.ixbt.com/video3/images/rv...00xt-front.jpg
