There was this rumor floating around the forums back in the day about these being perfectly fine cards, just with busted fan controller circuits. That's why someone swapped the cooling setup and now the fan just runs at full blast constantly. Might want to double-check that before you drop any cash...

I've been scouring Google and I can't find anything even remotely similar http://www.inno3d.com/products/graph...ges/8800gs.jpg This is the closest thing I've found, but it's a GS version, not the GT I'm looking for. Honestly, it feels more like a PowerColor design or something else entirely...

Then I check this over here http://www.dvhardware.net/news/inno3...ce_9800_gt.jpg and it's clearly a 9800 GT

You'll need this—should work fine without any headaches...

Is that actually legit—and if so, where do I find them??

It's true, but it all depends on what software version your Xbox 360 is running. Apparently, you need 3.26 specifically... check out this listing on Craigslist for more infohttp://www.njuskalo.hr/igrace-konzol...-oglas-1660243

Hey—how does this card actually stack up against the rest of the 8800 GT lineup? And how much of a jump am I looking at compared to an HD 2600XT? It’s got DDR4

The truth is, looking at the classifieds right now is pretty much $167—once they run out of those Zotac GeForce GTX 250 cards, I’ll just be buying power supplies for cards that don't even work...

Can anyone tell me where this 9800GT actually sits—is it in the same ballpark as the 4850 or 70?

It’s got S-Video TV-out, so I was leaning toward it for that... but if there's something else in that same tier you'd recommend I grab today before it's gone, let me know. I'm running an AMD Athlon II—is that going to bottleneck the card's max performance or what?

Also thinking about swapping in a new 520W power supply

That okay?

So, I'm looking at the 12-month financing plan—which puts me at about $5.00 a month... Honestly, isn't the GTX 250 a decent steal if it actually outperforms the 4850 and my CPU can keep up with it?
I'm planning to throw in another 2GB of RAM later and grab a 22" monitor, too—hopefully that'll be enough to run stuff like NFS or CoD at full resolution...

So they’ve got a few different models of those GTX 250 cards in stock—honestly, I have no clue which one to pick... 🙂 Most of them look like they're 256-bit, which matters to me—should handle some games a bit better than the 128-bit versions..

The rest of the build is 2GB of RAM on a single 800MHz stick—currently running an HD 2600XT, a Codegen 400W, an AMD Athlon x64 x2 5200+, a 500GB HDD, a 320GB HDD, and an MP2L-S3P motherboard

crimsonstag84 said:The SS 430W should be plenty—what else is in the build? Still, the difference is just $23, and you get way more headroom with the SS 520W... I’d grab that one if you want some breathing room for future upgrades without the headache 🙂

The card itself is fine, but there's better out there... don't know if you've got a discount at HG-Spot, which is where you're shopping? Because their prices are pretty steep...
For $17, you can actually snag a decent GTX 250, and for $17, I've seen an HD 4770 go for less—it's more efficient, much newer, and probably eats the 9800GT for breakfast 😉

No discount, just that they offer financing through a Chase credit card, so I was thinking about splitting the cost over 12 months... which means maybe the GTX 250 is the smarter play... then again, seeing as that 4770 isn't bad either, maybe I should just aim for a 4850?

I was thinking about this combo at the end—think it’ll work?

or

with:

keeping in mind that 550W option might be needed since the card calls for a 450W minimum...

Is it worth it, or is there a better way to go about this...

Thomas Martin4 said:the gts250 is better. you aren't really getting much out of dx11 right now... just don't buy it at Best Buy, there are cheaper shops out there.

Yeah, I know there are cheaper places—but Best Buy is the only spot where I can actually split it into 12 monthly payments using my Chase card 😁 since that's the only credit I have available... might as well use it here $23 especially since I need to grab a new power supply from Micro Center for $133

I'm looking at these two cards and honestly can't decide which one is worth the money—especially since that ATI one comes with DX 11 support...

Does it even matter which power supply I pick for a GeForce GTS 250... or this one the first one get the job done?

crimsondrifter15 said:Buying a new AGP card is—honestly—just throwing money away..

The best card you can actually find around here is probably the Radeon HD 3450.
It’s got HDTV, DVI, HDMI, DirectX 10.1, and all those other little extras you need to browse the web, watch HD movies, or run Windows Vista/Windows 7 at resolutions up to 1920x1200 without a hitch.

It's strong enough to handle older games at roughly 1024x768—I personally used it with a Dual Core setup to get through Fallout 3, the whole Call of Duty series, S.T.A.L.K.E.R....

It costs $117, and it'll run on any junk power supply you have lying around. Seriously, you don't need anything better for an old Pentium 4 bucket; just grab the Radeon HD 3450 so you can watch HD video, and if you actually want to game, just buy a new PC..

Hmm, trying to play Call of Duty 4 on a card like that is pure fantasy if you want decent settings... 😁 I think I was getting maybe 40fps on a 2600xt, so this would be even worse—not to mention stuff like NBA 2K or NFS Shift, Blur, and so on.😁

Michael Reed72 said:It’s got a 256-bit bus just like the 4850—performance is basically a wash compared to the GeForce GTS 250.

Thanks. I'll probably just grab the 4850 then... honestly, I've always preferred ATI over NVIDIA anyway—I think I've owned at least five ATI cards over the years. Just gotta call them up and have the card shipped out to Washington, D.C....😁

Michael Reed72 said:Fortron is about $100 at AMD, but financing would bump the price up... Link's is pricey, but since they don't charge extra for installments, you'd pay the sticker price regardless. You could probably find a graphics card or an Radeon HD 4850 over there that's way cheaper—performance should be pretty much the same anyway.

I was actually just looking at that Radeon HD 4850—honestly, it was my first choice, along with that version with the Zalman cooler... but Link's doesn't have the 4850 in stock. If the $67it's cheaper and the performance is basically identical, I don't see why I'd hesitate... unless there's some weird difference between 256 and 128-bit memory bandwidth?

.

I was actually planning on financing the whole thing—grabbing this card along with something like a $333 $12 monthly payment $33... I like that it has 4x SATA connectors so I can skip the converters. It's not breaking the bank either, and honestly, how much would that Fortron unit cost up there? I don't know the first thing about power supplies, but they're easily the most critical part... 😁

I'm thinking about picking up this card: http://www.hgspot.com/53497/vga-pci-e-zotac-gf-gts-250 now I'm wondering where to find a power supply that can actually handle it... I've got two HDDs—320GB and 500GB—a DVD-ROM, 2GB of RAM, and I'm planning to bump that RAM up by another 2GB. Basically, looking for something I can grab on a 12-month installment plan without it costing more than $133...

wiredmarlin5 said:It's tough to recommend anything beefier with that power supply...

Without TV out ->

Hmm, if I grab a new PSU, maybe I could go for something stronger? Would a Corsair 400W handle a PowerColor Radeon HD 4850? And how does this GTS 250 stack up against the HD 4850... is it actually better?
Also, wondering if that GTS 250 will even survive on my current setup—don't want to fry the motherboard or the PSU after a few months... xD

James Castillo8 said:Is there any chance a card from the General Electric section might be available in New York City with S-Video TV-out? Just thinking about it until $333...

If nothing with S-Video is showing up in NYC, I guess I can live without it until $333

Right now I'm running an Intel Core i3, 2GB of RAM, an HD 2600XT, and some cheap 400W power supply that came in the box... just one of those generic Codegen units... motherboard is an MSI MAG B550
