OCD: General Discussion Thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Look, it's all in your head.
I finally figured it out.
If you tell yourself you can't function without meds, then you won't be able to. But if you decide those pills aren't necessary anymore, you'll eventually break the habit.
Reminds me of that movie *Matchstick Men* where Nicolas Cage has OCD (it's painful, he has to do everything three times) and he goes to a new doctor claiming he can't survive without his meds, but the doc is actually just giving him some soy menopause supplement, and he's totally convinced he's taking his old prescription.
There it is.
Everyone keeps saying you need to see a therapist to find the root cause and actually get better, rather than just having a psychiatrist pump you full of pills. :-)

Look, I see things from a different angle, so it’s easier for me. It’s not worth crying or stressing over. At least now I know I don't have some "scary disease," just OCD. (And honestly, it’s more of an obsession than a disease anyway). If I could just get rid of these intrusive thoughts—man, I wish I could—and stop the literal physical pain, life would be great.
Plus, we’re staying home more often lately, so sometimes I "forget" to count.
I told myself if I start acting up again, I’ll punish myself—no TV and stuff—so let's see how that goes.
At least I'm at peace with the diagnosis.
She told me to go see a therapist, saying they'd teach me how to stop obsessing over it so it eventually fades away.
I asked her if she could be my therapist instead, and she just said it's better not to pick someone you already know.

So, I asked this psychiatrist I know and she told me I’ve got OCD. Now I’m hitting up this group 😁
I’ve got this wild obsession where the lights can't stay on if I'm not there 😁
Man, it's driving me crazy 😁
I'm feeling really lost right now in Psychology ·
Dana Morales64 said:This has been an issue for as long as I can remember—I’ve always been a social creature, someone who thrives in a crowd. When I'm out with people, everything feels effortless; time flies, there's no boredom, and life just seems manageable. But the second I walk through my front door, I’m lost. I’ll step into my room, and within two minutes, the restlessness kicks in. If the house is quiet, it’s even worse—this wave of paranoia and anxiety just hits me out of nowhere. If I go a few days without seeing anyone, things start getting weird; I feel like I'm losing my grip, I get hit with this intense fear when I'm out walking, sweating, constantly looking over my shoulder, terrified that I’m eventually going to end up completely alone. Then, I hang out with friends and suddenly everything is fine again. It’s like I have these social batteries that drain incredibly fast—if I don't "recharge" by being around people every couple of days, I hit some kind of internal social crisis. It’s possible I’m more attached to certain people than I let on, even though I’m never clingy or overbearing in a group setting. As far as actual life decisions go, though, I’m fine—I can handle pressure and I usually know exactly what the right move is.
The core of it, though, is purely social—this constant, nagging fear that I’ll end up isolated, even if there isn't a logical reason to feel that way since I have plenty of friends and a solid support system.
Has anyone else dealt with this kind of cycle, and if so, how did you manage it?

you're not alone...👍
I've been stuck at home bored since high school ended, and I have no clue what to do. (I actually reconnected with an old friend from class who failed a grade once 😍).
What are you into generally? Movies, drawing, or something else? 😕
Not trying to lecture you, but I realized I actually prefer the silence at home.
I found my thing: sketching patent designs or stuff that could actually help people.
Sounds stupid, I know, but it keeps me full.
You like movies? Go grab one, borrow one, download something...
You're probably in college, right? Those are the prime years...
I realize what I missed out on now, but that's a whole other story. 😉

I honestly think this disorder is kind of wild
Why isn't it just locking the door three times and repeating everything three times? Or some magic number😁
The real problem is how I end up late every single day because I have to scrub everything to kill bacteria, then I’m stuck checking my clothes for any tiny speck😕
And it’s totally wrecking me
Today at school I was lining up chalk by size and everyone was staring at me. How am I supposed to explain anything to those idiots?
Plus I'm constantly double-checking if my phone, iPhone, keys, and everything else is in place on the way to school, like a hundred times over.
It just makes life miserable
Man, 2% of us are really going through it
I spend hours arranging my stuff until it's perfect, I've even used a ruler to measure distances...😂
The worst part is that it feels ridiculous, but if I don't get it right, I just spiral and punish myself
Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
After reading this, I’m still not quite following
Like I said before, I know a guy with schizophrenia. If my dad hadn't told me he was sick, I wouldn't have even known—he seems totally "normal." He works, lives with his mom, doesn't have a girlfriend. But the guy genuinely thinks the cops are out to get him and dreams about it constantly. He spent time at a state mental health facility in
Every year, he’s one of the first people to wish me a happy birthday, unlike some of my so-called "friends"
Honestly, before I knew he was "sick," I would've said he was perfectly healthy.
Unfortunately/luckily, I don't personally know anyone with > and we're the same age
From what I can tell, people dealing with > can't manage without medication.
🤷
And finally, how do you actually spot it?
What goes through someone's head
Thinking they're being followed, wiretapped, or caught in some massive conspiracy?
The internet says they hallucinate
But if someone who's been banned says they *know* they're hallucinating, I think they aren't actually hallucinating. Because when you're truly hallucinating, you don't even realize it's happening, right?
At the very least, I don't think this will ever truly "defeat" the illness.
Shout out to the scientists for developing meds that actually help.
Imagine if there was no relief and everyone with > just had to deal with those thoughts alone...
I don't divide people into "sick" and "healthy"
I didn't even realize a girl I know had mental health struggles until recently, and my attitude toward her hasn't changed one bit.
Why?
Because life is already hard enough for them...
So, to everyone living with >, hang in there.👍

Some people just get stuck with this...
Man, I'm constantly fighting off these intrusive thoughts. 😢
Even after a handshake, I’m washing my hands like crazy.
If there's even one tiny speck on my clothes—or a single drop of water—I can't wear them.😢
And these graphic, vulgar thoughts? I can't seem to shut them down.
I really need to see a specialist.😁

Then I read online that people dealing with this just take something to make the thoughts vanish?
Is it true you just live with this until the end? No cure, just managing the symptoms?

Just let her be. If she doesn't want to, don't force it...
If she actually wants to, she'll show up on her own...
End of story 😛
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Wellbutrin should kick in after about 2 or 3 weeks. If you've passed that mark and still feel like crap, it’s time to switch things up.
Google says so.
My granddad picked up some blood thinner—something starting with an M—at a pharmacy near Pike Place Market...
give it a shot there, not sure where else...
from what I know, you just order it right there.
Progress or just spoiled kids? in Psychology ·
Amanda Kern2 said:Why shouldn't kids have AC in their classrooms? Look, I don't have children, but if someone tries to lecture me about how "spoiled" today's generation is just because they want air conditioning, they're missing the point entirely. I grew up in schools where we were sweating through our shirts in 95-degree heat, or dealing with playground equipment that felt like it was melting under the sun. Is it really "oppressive" to want to give our kids the best? If it's within my means, and I had a kid, I’d be looking at a chauffeur driving them to school and classrooms equipped with climate control and mahogany desks. Anyone calling this hypocritical—especially compared to how most parents actually handle upbringing and education—is clearly deluded.
What kids possess, and the specific things they have, only matters if you approach the situation with the right mindset.
Graham and Mikimiki hit the nail on the head here.

🙏🙏👍
it'd be the same for me:
i didn't have a bus every morning, so nobody else should either
they didn't have SATs, so why should we?
our backpacks are heavy, so everyone else's should be too...
we need to invest in them, they're the future!!!
Progress or just spoiled kids? in Psychology ·
Yeah, we’re all spoiled...
I love it when the older generation goes, "We didn't have computers back then, so why should you need them now?"
Look, if it's hot out, it's hot. If we have the option to fix it, why wouldn't we?
And it's not like the world is ending just because someone doesn't own an Xbox or a PlayStation
Half my friends don't even have a console, and they're doing just fine...
It's not about being bratty, it's about keeping up with what's actually happening.
My neighbor upstairs literally bought a PlayStation 3 when it was super expensive just so he could say he had one and stay on trend...
I actually suggested to my classmates at school that if everyone chipped in $17 (we share classrooms, so like 60 kids total), it would be $1000 and we could just buy ourselves some AC...
The main issue is just that our parents grew up without half the stuff we take for granted today...
Paralyzed by indecision in Psychology ·
People get indecisive because they're too worked up. You gotta cool your head first. Once the emotions die down, making a call is way easier.
But don't overthink it either, or you'll get nowhere. Like I said before: overanalyzing leads to nothing. Just look at US cops or firefighters—they have to make split-second decisions.

OCD: General Discussion Thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Wait, if I’m getting this right, we’re talking about OCD or maybe obsessive-compulsive neurosis?
Just asking out of curiosity—how do you actually treat it?
Has anyone here actually kicked it? How long did it take and did it actually work?

I'm asking because I'm reading this and seeing a ton of my own symptoms.
Like, when I organize things, they have to be perfect, down to the millimeter, or exactly how I see them in my head. Even at the grocery store, I’ll rearrange the shelves because I can't stand how they look.
I even pull items off the shelves backward just because I'm worried about bacteria.
There was a time when I was obsessed with scanning my PC for viruses five times a day; now, I find myself checking everything ten times before I leave the house.
Sometimes I do these stupid little rituals a hundred times in a row...

I know, you guys probably think, "What a weirdo."
But yeah... I'm definitely not normal.
How long does the honeymoon phase actually last? in Psychology ·
I’ve been head over heels for this girl I met back in elementary school for at least 8 years now.😁

Man, love and just being infatuated—those are two totally different things...
Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
Heh, my dad’s buddy has schizophrenia. I never even thought he was sick until my grandpa pointed it out.
From what I gather, some people think they're being persecuted, or that there's a chip implanted, so they get terrified of strangers...
How does someone with schizophrenia actually act?
Do they look totally normal at first glance, or do they just act weird?
And about those episodes.
So, basically, from what I can tell,
how long does one episode usually last?
During an episode, how does a person behave?

Do the meds actually work? And do people taking them feel drugged or like someone else is controlling them?
Because they have this feeling that they're being watched?

What kind of feelings are we talking about—do they vary? Like, some might be hit hard by it, while others deal with it less intensely?
I read somewhere that 30 percent make a full recovery? 🤷
But how do you recover if it's incurable... 🤷

Heading in for my physical. It’s nothing major, just checking things out. My grandma mentioned my heart was racing or sounding weird once, which was wild. I’ve always been super active with sports and all my labs—bloodwork, everything—have always come back perfect.
Is there anything I should actually be worried about?😠
