Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·

Andrew Wood5 said:You describe them perfectly. It is because of people who are actually sane but still face stigma. It makes things harder for them. Their condition worsens because their surroundings are bizarre, especially when they are stuck only dealing with negative symptoms. And they aren't even at fault for their illness. It's their parents. They wounded them during their most vulnerable years—back when you should have been held and loved, instead, those elders treated them worse than animals. And God gave them that life. God is truly unjust.

It hasn't been definitively proven—but then again, my ex-husband had an absolutely wrecked childhood, dealing with a mother who was eerily silent and completely self-absorbed, plus a father who was being treated terribly in a federal penitentiary—so I can't say there isn't some truth to the theory.

What do you expect... people have always let me down.☕

Same here—people let me down too, but they’re still somehow more interesting than inanimate objects.

I’m the exact same way when it comes to my gear. My MP3 player, my laptop, my phone... honestly, it hurts just thinking about someone snatching them or me losing them. I don't really get attached to people at all.🤷

That’s the heart of the matter right there. My own mother walked out on me just two days after I was born—left me with a premature infant—yet she cried her eyes out like it was a tragedy when her old washing machine finally kicked the bucket. When you don't have a functional connection with people, you end up bonding with THINGS or—better yet—with animals.

Feeling a bit better already.😘
Hopefully I'll be back to 100% pretty soon. 😘

Of course you will. My old man used to tell me all the time that I’d never amount to anything—that I'd never see my students winning national awards for poetry in the USA or anything like that. He was convinced I wouldn't achieve a damn thing, but honestly? You can do whatever you set your mind to.

My ex-husband is living with schizophrenia, and now he’s ended up in a nursing home where it feels like nobody has the tools—or the will—to actually help him.

The roots of your self-doubt? They usually trace back to a family dynamic where you just weren't accepted for who you actually are. It leaves you with this skewed self-image—this lack of basic self-respect—that ends up pushing people away before they even get a chance to know you. But look, you aren't broken. You’re fine. You just need to put in some work on your own mindset and try to flip the script toward something more positive. If you do that, I guarantee you'll succeed 100%
