Family medicine specialists are arguably the most vital figures in the entire healthcare system. At the primary care level, they act as the gatekeepers for secondary and tertiary services; the quality of patient care and how much taxpayer money the government burns depends entirely on their initial assessment. Primary care should be the backbone of the whole system because these doctors cover everything—they need a massive breadth of medical knowledge and skills that extend far beyond just one niche. Honestly, if you have a solid family doctor, you’re practically set for life...
Let's be real: nobody has the kind of money to just "hire" a doctor privately. Unless you're in the field, you have no idea how brutal this job actually is. It’s impossible to grasp the sheer weight of responsibility, the effort, the diligence, and the constant mental sharpness required. I guarantee you that the average person doesn't make as many critical decisions in a year as a doctor makes in a single day. In my opinion, it’s one of the most comprehensive and taxing professions in existence today. They live under constant scrutiny, facing endless questioning and criticism from supervisors, colleagues, and the public alike. Most people would end up in a psych ward; I'd argue not everyone is cut out to be a doctor. And don't even get me started on the relationship with patients who harass them whenever they get the chance. Their field is almost hermetically sealed, and even though the training system isn't quite as broken as other sectors in the USA (though it’s certainly seen better days) and seems cohesive, they are largely left to rely on themselves and their own judgment every single day...
Of course, there's a darker side to the story. You see plenty of examples of unethical doctors who have gone way too far—there are quite a few of them. But then again, there are also truly wonderful people serving as physicians.
People, please, love your doctors. They are your lifesavers... 😉))))
