When health leaves you with no options: Is assisted suicide justifiable?

Whatever you decide, it’s valid—that’s just the reality of being human, having the agency to either push through or call it quits. I don't think anyone actually wants to suffer indefinitely, and frankly, I doubt even God would demand that level of agony if He exists. My family and I have had some heavy, serious discussions about this exact scenario: what happens if one of us hits a breaking point where the suffering becomes unbearable and they want to "exit"? We all agreed that it's okay. We don't have any right to force someone to endure misery just so they can stay by our side longer. At the end of the day, if someone's time is up, it's up. If my mother or brother were facing an agonizing illness and wanted to let go, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself for forcing them to linger through their final days just to satisfy some sense of morality, religion, or my own selfishness. As I said, only the person actually in that position knows what it feels like. I assume you started this thread because you're looking for a conversation, which is perfectly fine, but I also believe that posts from healthy people online won't change your ultimate decision, because that choice belongs solely to you. I just hope the rest of your life is defined by as little pain as possible and as many good moments as you can find.
This is a solid post.👍 I don't know what specific illness you're dealing with, so it's hard to give any real advice.
Just one thing—think about yourself. Don't suffer just for your family. They'll hurt regardless, but it might be easier for them if they aren't watching you struggle day after day.😢
I'm not pushing you toward anything. Here in the States, euthanasia is illegal, but it's legal in plenty of other places. Even Catholic Spain once allowed it for a man with constant pain and quadriplegia. Quadriplegia is when all four limbs are completely paralyzed.
If I had cancer and knew there was no cure, I'd probably end things too. I've seen enough. People who survived strokes, unable to communicate, lying motionless in bed, needing help with basic bodily functions... Is that a life worth living? Not really.😢
Again, it's easy to play judge, but at the end of the day, it's your call. Whatever you choose, you have my support.👍
