I’ve always felt like some stories just lose their soul when they're moved from a movie to a theater production. There's something about the intimacy of the stage that can either make a drama feel much more raw or just feel a bit forced. Do you guys think a great script can actually survive the transition?
Sam White62 said:Oh, obviously it doesn't just happen by magic. But me, pushing a full cart: excuse me, sorry: I shove everything toward the express lane for pregnant women and tell the cashier, "Excuse me, I'm pregnant, can I go now?"
If she turns me down, she risks me calling her manager—which stops the whole line and creates a massive scene during the shift.
So far, no one has dared refuse me. One woman once said, "if the others let you," and I politely pointed out that she was currently working the PREGNANCY AND DISABILITY LANE, so maybe some other pregnant lady—or someone with a prosthetic limb—could let me through instead.
🙂
Hahaha, you’re a legend! I don't usually shop at Walmart, but now I'm a little surprised... wait, does an express lane specifically for pregnant women actually exist?
boldbison32, you really cracked me up!! It wasn’t until I actually became pregnant that I realized just how rude and selfish some older people can be... honestly, there’s no way I’m giving up my seat for someone who wouldn't even think to stand up for a mother with a kid or a pregnant woman—especially when you just saw them sprinting after a city bus or a subway train a minute earlier. I told myself right then: there is zero chance I'm ever getting up for an old person again. I’ve had my fair share of encounters where they didn't bother to move, though it hasn't been all the time. Anyway, I’m currently 38 weeks and 2 days along, and my belly is so huge it feels like I’ve already gone past my due date—so people start offering seats when you're barely even showing! Lately, I haven't been heading out much on my own, so I haven't been using public transit as much, but people have been helpful—some have even stepped aside just to let me get through the door 😁
I don't usually get irritated by things during this pregnancy... I guess my hormones just work differently? I mostly just laugh—well, I *do* laugh—everything feels great and funny to me. Sometimes I’ll get hit by this sudden burst of silliness late at night and start acting like a total goofball at home, and my husband just dies laughing... thank goodness he’s always there to be my resident clown 😁
But there is this one lady at the farmers market who used to get under my skin... her daughter just gave birth recently, and I saw the girl when she was about nine months pregnant. She had a belly about the size I had back in my fourth month 🙂 for the most part. She didn't gain any weight at all during the pregnancy, so every time that lady sees me at the market, she stares at me like I'm some kind of freak because of how big my stomach is. Like, what does she want from me? I'm right on the verge of giving birth... it's not my fault her daughter didn't carry much! Her daughter delivered a little one weighing only about 5 pounds at full term, whereas my little guy was already that size back at 33 weeks 😁 a chip off the old block, just like his dad 😍

That sounds like a solid deal... but where exactly?? Who 😲 did you try?
I honestly feel like you should just talk directly to the bakery where the cake came from... if you tell them how many guests are attending the wedding, they can usually give you a solid estimate themselves.
We’re actually in the same boat—we have a cake as a gift from the Hilton, and when we asked where it was from, they told us we could head over to the bakery, sample their various cakes, and work out all the details with them—everything from the specific flavors to the overall design. As far as flavor combinations go, though, I’m really not a fan of mixing things up... I much prefer sticking to one single flavor. We’ll probably end up going with a parfait style, since it's a bit lighter—most people seem to prefer that anyway—and since I find heavy desserts a little too much, a lighter option sounds perfect to me.

Mmm, looks delicious! Seriously, that looks so good. How many of those did you end up ordering?
Here’s a quick update for everyone: I just sent an email over to a local bakery, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how fast they got back to me—and how incredibly kind they were!
Anyway, a kilogram of treats there is going to be $23... which seems like a fair price to me, but what do you all think?
On another note, my aunt mentioned that if I'm catering for about 150 people at a restaurant, I should probably aim for somewhere between 20-30kg, while having about 3-10kg of the homemade stuff on hand (usually around 5kg works best).
They also offer packaging options: plastic containers at $0.33/unit or cardboard ones for $0.83/unit.
They can even pre-package everything into little boxes—that would be $0.67 per box—and each one holds roughly 3 to 4 ounces of sweets.
What are your thoughts on this whole setup?
Thanks Donna Chase12! I’m actually starting to think the same thing—it feels like a bit much... wouldn't it be better to focus more on variety, maybe adding some different savory options or cold deli platters? 🙂 Then again, I really don't want to end up in that awkward spot where we run out of dessert, even though I'm pretty sure people won't go overboard on the sweets...
If I remember correctly, you had about 20kg for roughly 122 guests, right? And you still had plenty left over... did you make those treats at a local bakery, or were they homemade? Did you end up sending the leftovers home with your guests?
Has anyone here tried the treats from a local bakery? Our Hilton is gifting us a wedding cake made by them... Does anyone know what their pricing looks like?
Eh, also—what do you guys think about how many pastries I should get for roughly 150 guests? They’ll be served later at the hotel, but I also need enough for both my place and my fiancé's. Would 30 kg be plenty? I don't expect more than 50 people to show up at my place—honestly, even that feels like a lot since my apartment is pretty small and I can't really host a huge crowd...
