I’ve been stuck on this 200-page Pavlic crime thriller for two months straight... and I’m seriously behind on my library returns!
Well, at least you're actually reading something 😁
Joshua James40 said:Honestly, it really gets under my skin when my partner insists that hormones and all the mood swings that come with them are just some kind of feminine nonsense—as if I’m just making things up or should somehow just act like everything is normal. It bugs me how some guys—not all of them, obviously, but plenty—just carry on with their lives as if their wives aren't even pregnant... meanwhile, women actually need a bit more support and attention during this phase. And don't even get me started on that classic, patronizing "just enjoy being pregnant and focus on yourself" cliché... how exactly am I supposed to "enjoy" this? I’ve gained 20 pounds, I can’t go in the pool, nothing fits me anymore, and I can barely walk twenty feet without feeling like my spleen is trying to exit my body. I can't even grab coffee with my friends—I guess nobody invites me out anymore because they're terrified I'll go into labor right there in the middle of the cafe. So yeah, my big plans involve reading a book and eating about 500 pastries in a row.
And since you're already way, way ahead of me... my brain feels like it's basically turned into dried-out mush...
I mean, I already know how it goes—hardly anyone ever lets me cut in line anyway, but whatever... it doesn't really bother me too much. 🤷
But man, what actually ticked me off was hearing these three teenage boys walking around town yesterday, and one of them just goes: "Let's go watch those hookers running around in heels?"
Seriously, how are we supposed to expect a kid like that to grow up into someone who actually respects people—you know, stands up for someone or gives up a seat to a pregnant woman?
I mean, if every single woman is just a "hooker" to him, where does it end?
I’ve spent seven damn years being a total jealous, possessive mess whenever my partner goes out to work—I know, I’m a disaster. And now, because of this baby, I’m just staying quiet, keeping to myself, and brooding internally... but why the hell does everyone around me insist on guilt-tripping me all day long? I was actually being totally cool for once, but they won't let it go. They keep asking why I'm like this, why I'm so jealous, and why I'm "hurting" the baby—claiming the kid is gonna end up autistic or slow or withdrawn or whatever—until I finally snap and break down into tears.
I mean, what the hell is wrong with people? Instead of just leaving me alone, they spend the entire day rubbing salt in the wound, and then when I finally buckle under the constant pressure, it’s like, “A-HA! See? There she goes again, crying and making a scene!”
I mean, honestly, who wouldn't lose it after twelve hours of pure torture, listening to people lecture me about what's going to happen to my baby just because they think I'm some kind of unstable person?!
I totally get where you're coming from—especially since I’ve got gestational diabetes too, so I have to be super careful. I've heard all that strict advice about this and that, but honestly? It’s hard because once I start, I can't stop until I've polished off a whole box of Entenmann's or a massive pint of Ben & Jerry's. But yeah, I'm holding back now for the sake of the baby.
Btw, I've put on 14 pounds and I've been stuck there ever since they flagged my GD levels. I'm watching everything—not even for me, really, but for the little one—and man, it's just been such a struggle...
That's why your posts always make me laugh whenever they pop up on my feed—it's like looking in a mirror!
Gary James17 said:...it drives me insane when people act like my entire existence has shrunk down to nothing more than their own unsolicited opinions on pregnancy, labor, and kids, especially when they aren't just offering advice, but are basically weaponizing these patronizing warnings like: "Oh, just wait until you see how it is, you won't want to go anywhere anymore" (as if I have a social life to begin with), "you won't be able to sleep in until 9" (as if I’m currently sleeping in), "you'll never be alone again," hahaha, "enjoy your solitude while it lasts," or even things like, "better swap out that carpet because once the baby arrives..." or "buy a dishwasher because you won't have time for dishes" (like that's the crisis here), or "you'll be too busy gardening and baking cookies to deal with a baby" (as if dreaming of a garden or having a little organic vegetable patch is some kind of sin, or like feeding a child from your own garden is some impossible Herculean task), "don't bother with cloth diapers because you won't have time to wash them every three days" (implying anyone who does is clearly incompetent), "cut your hair short because you won't be able to manage long hair during labor," and then all the horror stories about birth and breastfeeding... blablablabla....
The reality is I’m practically living in hospitals; I’ve been on bed rest since week 7 (and it’s already been four full months!) and it’s going to stay this way—bleeding, contractions, cervical issues, the whole bit. Most days I am completely alone, constantly in pain and gripped by anxiety, feeling so stiff that my only exercise is rolling from my right side to my left, and honestly, I don't know how life could possibly get any worse than this, yet people still feel the need to explain to me how much more miserable things will be once I actually go into labor. I just don't get it! And it particularly irritates me how some people think it’s great that I can spend my days reading or watching TV, or how everyone treats me like some pampered guest being served. Please, don't lecture me on how easy I have it unless you've actually lived it! And yeah, I become the black sheep every time I snap at someone or push back, and nobody seems to grasp why I’m actually so irritable and moody most of the time! Helloooo, even the most perfectly healthy pregnant woman finds things difficult sometimes! Right?
And why on earth do people feel the need to drag up stories about the neighbor, a relative, or an acquaintance who had various miscarriages, lost a baby during delivery, or lost one in the second trimester... and they choose to tell these stories to a pregnant woman who has been explicitly diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage...
Don't even get me started on the doctors! One tells me to take certain pills, another looks at me like I'm crazy and says don't take them. Then there's the bureaucracy—faulty referrals, or "No ma'am, we don't run blood tests for that specific diagnosis, go get a new referral first..." And then there's that condescending attitude where they say, "Don't worry about your cervix, that's our job" (when I was simply asking if it was still dilated like last time—my cervix is part of my body, of course I want to know what's happening with it!) ...I don't trust anyone anymore and, frankly, I'd almost rather just give birth at home! Sometimes I genuinely wish I had been born five hundred years ago, when nobody knew anything about modern pregnancy complications, when doctors didn't exist, so I could just give birth in the middle of tilling a field, wrap the baby up, and get right back to digging!
It also really gets to me that I am craving sweets so badly... I'm dreaming of cheesecake... but I can't have any because of gestational diabetes. It's infuriating how everyone keeps pushing sweets and treats on me that I shouldn't touch, acting as if a tiny indulgence won't hurt. Well, sure, maybe one bite won't kill me, but doing it every day leads to new complications, and I really don't need those! It's hard enough for me to control myself and stick to this stupid diet, and I'm being incredibly disciplined... but it certainly isn't helping that the people around me won't stop trying to tempt me.
And then there are the comments like—"Wait, you haven't gained any weight???" implying that's a bad thing, or "What about the baby?" The baby is exactly the size it needs to be, healthy and active, whereas I have no legs or glutes left from being immobile, just a stomach and constant nausea... so naturally, I haven't put on much weight yet... but I don't care, because the baby is fine. But people just won't stop planting seeds of doubt in my head...
I could keep going, but I'm already exhausted! 🙂
p.s. Yep, I totally snapped. 🙂 You don't need to comment on any of this.
I totally get you... 😢
on other things too, but right now it's mostly just because of the quotas... 🙂
Brenda Sullivan59 said:Superstitions. I absolutely hate them... I lost my mind the other day... 🙂 So, my grandma—who I basically lived with for 24 years—passed away... 😢 And because of some stupid superstition, they wouldn't even let me see her... First off, they waited five hours after everyone else to tell me. Naturally, I totally lost it. Like, you aren't allowed to cry or get worked up? Well, I did exactly that. Just a complete mess... 🙂 🙂 🙂
Then I hear someone whisper from the side: "Well, pregnant women shouldn't be attending funerals anyway." 🙂 Yeah, good luck trying to stop me from doing that... 🙂
Last week, I went to a friend's service, and honestly, nobody even breathed a word about staying away—which is lucky, because it was hard enough as it is, let alone dealing with this constant, nagging feeling that I never truly found closure with her...
Alex Roberts4 said:What happened to me today was honestly peak absurdity. I felt like I was being interrogated by the Inquisition or something. This lady from my neighborhood starts grilling me about where I’m planning to have my baby. I tell her I’m looking at the Peterson clinic, and she just loses it. I told her I actually gave birth at the Holy Spirit hospital and they were absolutely top-tier—not a single complaint. Then she has the nerve to ask if I’ve already "secured" a specific doctor over at Peterson, acting like he's the only one worth seeing. I just stared at her and said, "Actually, there are plenty of great doctors there, and you just show up on the day you want and see who's available." I wasn't looking for any special favors, and besides, I haven't even started my prenatal appointments yet. But no, she keeps harping on about the Holy Spirit hospital, acting like there's some secret way to get in. Basically, she had a connection, bragged about how great it was, and now she thinks everyone else should have it easy too. As if! I countered by saying I hadn't decided yet and that her precious little hospital isn't perfect either. My experience at the Vineyard wasn't exactly stellar, and some of my friends had issues at either Holy Spirit or Peterson, so... what now? If I followed her logic, I wouldn't be able to pick a hospital at all. But wait, it gets better. Am I going crazy? I mentioned I hoped things wouldn't end up being that complicated, and she goes, "Well, you can just arrange it..." Oh, for crying out loud! Go ahead, "arrange" for someone to cut you open, why don't you? And then—get this—she asks if my mom would be able to help out during delivery. I told her that if she could, she would, but she's getting older and her health isn't what it used to be. The look she gave me... it was classic. Like, "Oh, grandmas aren't allowed to be sick or weak; they have to sacrifice themselves no matter what." It was a total disaster. She made my mom sound like some kind of monster, when the poor woman raised four kids all by herself and now she's elderly and struggling with her health, so she obviously can't do everything all the time. That was the moment I drew the line. Truly insane.
Honestly, the worst ones are always the women who have already given birth. They’re the ones most likely to swoop in and try to "educate" me... they act so self-important and pushy. Like their choice is the only right choice. Seriously, it's unbelievable. So incredibly intrusive and exclusionary.
Ugh, I totally get you! I’ve had a few moments like that myself, and man, it really does feel like someone is just backing you into a corner... not a great feeling at all!
My breasts are killing me... I feel like I'm dying already—and honestly, I'm terrified about what breastfeeding is going to be like if they're stinging and burning this badly right now. Everything is just... cracked and raw everywhere.😢
Alex Castillo said:@anpi, don't be mad at me, but honestly, your husband can probably handle the laundry himself. My guy didn't even know how to turn on the washing machine until I finally snapped and told him there was no way an engineer could be this clueless about basic appliances. This was back when I was early in my pregnancy; I was working quite far away, so I was staying with my dad since he lives right near my office. Once I walked him through the laundry process, he just looked at me and asked, "Is that it?" And yeah, that was it! He’s been ironing his own clothes ever since, even though his mom lives just two streets over. It shouldn't be such a huge ordeal to iron a work shirt, 🙄 . You're probably just used to a mother-in-law who won't lift a finger for her own kid and would rather leave you to fend for yourself. You've got to teach him to save both you and your mom the trouble—especially if his mom never taught him these things in the first place. ☕ Besides, I never had to do a ton of housework at my mom's house either. We started from the exact same place, so we can figure this out together.
All five of them, honey—I totally get where you're coming from. He handles basically everything at home while my mom isn't around—dishes, laundry, vacuuming... Okay, he doesn't iron—that's the one thing. He could, I guess, but my mom spares him from that. I honestly felt so bad for my mom because she actually passed out from exhaustion on our couch here, while my mother-in-law just wanders into Walmart three times a day because she's bored. Literally!!! But if you actually heard her, you'd understand why this gets under my skin so much. For example, a few days ago, we were all talking about how we need to mulch the flower beds around the house soon, and there she goes—acting like she’ll have it done in five minutes. That was like ten days ago. She hasn't touched the garden since. silentraven6 says he'll take care of it, but no—not him, she'll do it, or he won't know how, blah, blah... so nothing gets done, and then he just plays the victim later. There's plenty more I won't even list, but what really bugs me is how she constantly interferes whenever we try to do something ourselves—which isn't even necessary—yet when there's actual work she could help with? Nothing. THAT is what drives me crazy.
Look, ladies, don't get me wrong—she isn't forcing me to do anything, and I'm certainly not obligated to do her work. My mom and my husband handle everything, and she stays out of it. What really gets under my skin is how she plays the victim—always acting so deeply offended, wounded, and in tears just because someone ignores her for a second—yet she refuses to do anything to actually earn people's respect. Then, suddenly, everyone else is the villain for giving her a wide berth (even her own son). And honestly? She’s worse than a backseat driver when it comes to lecturing everyone; she sticks her nose into everything, but the second it's time to actually step up and help—poof, she's nowhere to be found.
What really stung was seeing her completely ignore her own son's needs—I mean, it was mostly his laundry—right when I was totally overwhelmed. I'm not saying I *need* her to wash or iron my stuff, thank you very much, but the fact that she couldn't just help him out... especially since she bought her own laundry anyway!!! She could have easily tossed those few shirts in with hers.
But that’s not actually what I wanted to vent about... what really got under my skin—and totally caught me off guard—was how my mother-in-law is acting while I'm dealing with this high-risk pregnancy. Luckily, I finally blew off some steam between yesterday and today, so I'll try to keep this post calm—if I had written this yesterday, I probably would've been reported for half the things I said.
Look, I know she isn't exactly an emotional person, and I know she tends to ignore us—plus, my husband has a much better relationship with my mom than he does with his own—but sometimes her behavior just leaves me speechless...
Let’s break this down. The cleaning lady I hire when things get desperate has been sick for a while and can't help me out, and since I'm dealing with pregnancy complications, I'm strictly forbidden from scrubbing floors. My mom raised me to be a total neat freak, but my mother-in-law tells me I’m going to wear through the floor tiles if I scrub any harder—she just has a completely different approach to hygiene. My mom taught me that you do deep cleans before major holidays like Christmas or Easter, or whenever the seasons change. Those are just facts.
My MIL cooks because *she* wants to, not because we asked—but whatever, that's a whole other issue... meanwhile, my mom has been doing our cleaning, organizing, laundry, ironing, and everything else since I haven't been able to. While I was stuck in the hospital, my husband called my mom—who lives on the other side of town—saying he didn't have any clean underwear, even though his own mother lives right one floor below him. I think that pretty much says everything about who he feels more connected to.
So, yesterday, my MIL whipped up some canned chili for the nth time—basically a 20-minute lunch. My mom has been coming over for days to do a massive pre-Easter deep clean and is ironing the laundry we run in between. When she went up to the attic yesterday, she saw a huge pile of freshly laundered clothes and assumed they were ours—but they weren't. We only ran one load, and that was mostly just my husband's t-shirts. My dear mother-in-law scooped up her own laundry from the attic and ironed it herself, leaving our/my husband's pile for my mom to deal with.
I feel so bad for my mom because last time she finished cleaning, she collapsed onto the couch here from sheer exhaustion. I want to help her, but both she and my husband won't let me, while my MIL is being a complete nightmare. When I was in the hospital, I was the one cooking for everyone, washing and ironing all her laundry, and making sure the house was spotless—I did a full deep clean for her. And yet, she can't even spare the effort to iron one single load of t-shirts for my mom and her own son.
If she hadn't taken her laundry, I wouldn't say anything—I'd just assume she didn't realize our stuff was there. But this time, I know she saw it and intentionally ignored it. And then she has the nerve to act shocked and deeply offended when my husband is sweet to my mom and ignores her... yeah, okay, venting over.
I've decided that once the baby is born, she won't be cooking for us anymore. I only allowed it to keep the peace in the house, under the condition that since I'm breastfeeding, I won't be eating her food, so I'll take over the cooking for us—because I actually enjoy it and it's not a chore for me.
casualsurfer8 said:cosmiccrane15, tell me about it. I’ve been stuck on bed rest for months now, and honestly, it’s driving me insane. My husband thinks cleaning the bathroom once a week and running the vacuum through the house is enough... But then I feel bad because he’s handling everything solo, so I just shut up and ignore the dust. But you hit the nail on the head. I’m almost at the end of my bed rest too (35 weeks), and I feel like I’ve spent half my life Googling things. If it makes it any better, I’ll be able to scrub this entire house from top to bottom by myself in about two weeks. 😍 Other than that, this pregnancy hasn't really pushed my buttons much since I'm basically cooped up at home seeing next to nobody... 😉
Oh man, you totally reminded me! 🙂 It actually caught me off guard that I’m going to have to stay on bed rest for basically the whole pregnancy—different stretches for different reasons, I guess. I’ve always been super active—never one to just sit around—so I really didn't think I'd end up needing to take it easy like this.
gentlesailor2 said:I spent four weeks stuck on the couch myself. I spent the whole time nagging my husband with a rag, like, "Hey, wipe that down" or "Can you please get rid of that spider?" It’s wild how much you notice from that perspective. It wasn't even hard for me to jump back into the housework, but he swore those were the worst four weeks of his entire life... 😁
haha! I actually put them through the wringer for four whole months, not just four weeks!!!! 🙂
I drove both my husband and my mom absolutely insane—and honestly, they drove me just as crazy because they "couldn't see" the stains, the dust, or whatever else I was seeing and clearly not mentioning.
They managed to kill three of my plants—which, by the way, are basically impossible to kill if you water them right—but who knows if they overdid it or underdid it, since I ended up in the hospital twice during that stretch.
We're finally in a calmer phase of the pregnancy now, so I've been doing a little bit of light housework myself and it makes me feel so much better.😁
I mean, I assume things will play out the same way here in the States, but it still sucks—it’s just depressing. Probably just my hormones acting up... 🤷
My husband isn't acting all "mushy" anymore now that I'm pregnant.
He does everything I ask—he's supportive and we have everything we need—but I just wish he’d actually *want* to rub my belly without me asking, or talk to the baby on his own. I mean, okay, maybe it's too early since I haven't even felt those kicks yet, but still...
It's not even making me mad, it's just... sad.
If he puts his hand on my stomach, it's usually because I prompted him, and I really am trying to pull him into all of this—but even though we both wanted this baby and planned for it, I was hoping for a bit more emotional connection from his side.
