David Thomas362, we’re doing the parfait thing too—basically just a cake stacked on top of itself without the fancy stand. Personally, I think it looks way better. We’re going with chocolate parfait for the very bottom layer. I actually checked to see if that was doable, and they said yes—they just insisted the bottom sponge has to be chocolate to keep everything sturdy enough. 😉 basically: sponge-parfait-cream-sponge 🙂
We basically combined indulgence with practicality for Christmas and grabbed a few pounds of samples 😁 Honestly, I’m losing track of what flavors we settled on—I think it might be chocolate parfait on the bottom, vanilla on the second layer, and then maybe vanilla with forest berries on the third... or something like that 😂 God, who actually remembers all this...
We picked up some treats from Smile, out by the Appalachian National Forest! Homemade cookies—absolutely delicious—$22 they go for a certain price per pound, but if you want them laid out on plates, it’s 70 bucks 😉 But I always say the same thing: just head over, grab a pound, and give them a taste. That’s how we handled it 🙂
nimblescout5, maybe I’m off base here, but it shouldn't be an issue for anyone to pull this off. When I ordered my cake, the lady actually pulled out different pans just so I could get a sense of the scale—and honestly, she can adjust them by the inch if she needs to. She just stretches one pan or shrinks it down to fit the job. But $200 for such a tiny little cake? That's way overkill for me! We pay our own way $267, and we're talking about feeding 75 people...

steelangler16 said:Ugh, does anyone know where I can actually find some decent, traditional whipped cream cakes that don't rely on that weird, processed stuff? Honestly, they all look so unnaturally fake to me. 😕
yeah, obviously! mine is made with whipped cream. I honestly thought it wasn't—just looking at the photo—but when I asked the baker, she confirmed it was real cream. I actually dug up the original photo from an American website 😉
After scrolling through what felt like 500 different photos online—seriously, my eyes are bleeding—I finally settled on this one. Now, I’m just crossing my fingers that they actually pull off these flowers correctly. The cake itself is a classic Swiss meringue buttercream, and the flowers will be made from fondant—not that anyone actually eats those things, anyway, haha.
