Dana Martin87, it's funny how differently grandmas tell these stories... They told me I was a boy too, just because my face didn't look "distorted." They were actually 😬 The only thing I don't get is what kind of ridiculous logic implies that being "distorted" is even a thing...
Some young guy tried to cut me in line today outside the local clinic—except he didn't even bother running for it, just stood there. Well, I wasn't about to let him win, so I stepped right ahead of him to get my blood drawn. 😛 😁
Then, I had this sweet old man try to jump the queue once our group walked in—he actually thought he could go before me. Such a cute guy, though. 🙂
Arthur Newman77, I’m feeling the exact same way when I hit the stores—I haven't quite reached my breaking point yet, but it's coming... It isn't even about the wait itself, I don't mind standing around for a bit, but with this heatwave? And the lines? My blood pressure is already bottomed out... honestly, at this rate, I’ll just cut right through the crowd and take the first spot available 🙂
Honestly, she doesn't even remember when my last checkup was—we basically have to hand her the test results ourselves just so she can take a look. She hasn't even laid a finger on my stomach once. All she does is constantly harp on about how, if Bob wills it, everything will turn out fine 🙂—and then there's the endless pressure to eat, acting like I’m going to send her some barley porridge or something instead 😂 . At this point, I know better than to count on her for anything—whether it's now or when things get really difficult down the road. Everyone looks out for themselves 🤷
It’s not a huge deal, but my dad and brothers are starting to get on my nerves—they think they’re being helpful, but they basically assume I don't need to lift a finger. Every time I head over to their place and try to actually pitch in, they just shout at me to sit down because they've got it covered... Well, once the kid is born and someone inevitably has an accident, I’ll be more than happy to let them handle the diaper changes. 😁
My sister was at the OBGYN today... both me and my husband were right in the middle of our checkup when she just bursts in, talking non-stop about the SATs—since her son is taking them right now—and she simply won't shut up! And then, to top it all off, she starts lecturing my husband about how he doesn't even know which week of pregnancy I'm in. Seriously? Grrr...
I'm honestly just getting worked up at myself 😁 because by every single afternoon, I feel like I’ve got three pounds of lead sitting in my gut—and that’s after being on my feet for only half an hour! If this is how it feels now, I can't even imagine what's coming later... And why does it always hit me right in the afternoon?
Seriously, frozenangler87. Human stupidity truly knows no bounds... 🙄 I don't know—if I don't learn to tune out comments like that, I’m going to lose my mind... And after dealing with my mother-in-law, my blood pressure is through the roof. I honestly didn't see this coming from her—first, she insists we shouldn't buy anything until the eighth month of pregnancy (look, if someone wants to wait, fine, but what if I end up on bed rest? Plus, it's way easier on the budget to spread costs out over a few months. Besides, my eighth month falls in August in New York City! I have zero desire to be trekking through the city in 95-degree heat), and second, she says the baby needs to be baptized ASAP because "you never know." That was triggered by me saying I wanted to wait until spring so we could actually be outdoors, assuming the baby would be at least 6 months old by then. Okay, sure, you never know what might happen—I get that—but I can't live constantly spiraling into these worst-case scenarios... and I already worry about every little thing, I really don't need this added to my plate! I need to vent, fast!
So... here’s my first big blunder. My mother-in-law—oh boy—she goes, "What if the baby doesn't wake up?!" 😲 Honestly, I just felt this massive lump form in my throat—it was physical—and then my husband jumped in to insist the baby was perfectly fine. Then came the excuses... Look, I'm sure she didn't mean to be malicious, but seriously? Some things you just don't say out loud.
Ugh, they’re acting all overwhelmed... look, it might make you feel better to hear it, but my dad is a total Dalmatian—he couldn't care less if it's a boy or a girl, or even what the last name is, as long as the grandkid is his 😁 but honestly, my dad is great 😍 But seriously, just mute them. You’ve got to learn how to do that for your own sanity 😉
Heh, exactly. You see how the power struggle starts even before things are official—it’s already playing out during the pregnancy phase. Let them throw their tantrums until they're blue in the face; at the end of the day, they don't have the authority to change your decision, right? 😁 I'm honestly curious to see how people here will react... but just like you, if they can't get on board, I couldn't care less. 😁hehe
Hell, are they seriously going to name him after himself? 🤣🤣 how yes no 🤣 God, I’ll never wrap my head around this—instead of just celebrating a new grandkid, people are getting all worked up over a name... geez. Honestly, if you ask me, they were the ones who picked their own kids' names, so why not just let them pick mine 😁 ?
Look, I’m already vacuuming once or twice a day—it only takes me five minutes—so I really don't see what the big deal is... 😉 I honestly think I can dodge this question from everyone except one person—my family is basically obsessed with pets 😁
What’s the big deal with dogs? Honestly, our little guy is staying right here with us—he’s actually passed out on my lap right now 😍 and after I give him some head scratches, he just gives me a quick lick on the ear, so what? 😁 Besides, I can't wait for the baby to arrive so they can start licking those tiny feet. 😍 Plus, it's a proven fact that kids raised around pets end up with stronger immune systems and fewer allergies anyway. 😁 😁 p.s. I'm currently trying to talk my parents into adopting a dog too, so once the baby comes, we'll have two little fluffballs running around. 😁
Honestly, I think you’re spot on here 😉 those cupcakes are perfect—I’d much rather grab a small cookie than tackle a massive slice of cake. If I have a little bite and like it, I can always go back for seconds 🙂 For context, we had this massive three-tier cake at our party—it was completely demolished. On top of that, there was cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory (gone), a chocolate cake (all gone), two types of pastries (mostly gone), and a pink one (half gone)! People were sampling three different kinds of desserts, yet hardly anyone even touched the bite-sized stuff...
We did the exact same thing—we had about two pounds per table (each table sat maybe 7 to 9 people) and then there was just... wow. A lot left over. But whatever, we ended up hauling it all home and to the office... everything was gone within two days. 🙂 At his mom's place, we had an extra four or five pounds, and then another eight or nine at my parents' house—since everyone tended to gather at our place—and since there was still plenty left, my dad just took the leftovers to the local church.
Bryan Gomez90 said:The pastries sat out on the tables all night long, and the coffee kept flowing until morning.
Same thing happened at our place. We ended up with a massive surplus of cookies because there was just way too much other food on the table... So, we just grabbed them all and handed them out to family and coworkers the next day. We had budgeted for about half a pound per person—so for 64 people, that’s 10 kg total—but clearly, we overshot it.
Personally, I was left feeling completely let down; the selection we picked up during our initial tasting was flawless, offering such a wide variety of flavors and textures. On Friday, just a day before the wedding, I sent my husband and his friend to pick up the pastry boxes for the guests... When the delivery actually arrived, I honestly felt like sitting down and crying; out of six boxes of assorted treats, four of them were nothing but pies. They technically provided the volume we ordered, but once we started assembling the individual gift boxes, I had to cram half a pound into each one just to make it look presentable. All those wonderful rolls, peach pastries, and specialty sweets meant to fill the variety were dumped into a single box, with only a couple pieces of each kind. What stung the most was finding that they had included the crust scraps from every single type of pastry; how exactly am I supposed to plate a leftover edge of a nut tart? There was also a significantly smaller variety than what we had originally purchased by the pound. While the quality of the pastries themselves was fine—each having its own distinct flavor—it doesn't change the outcome. In the end, I found myself driving to Monica 🙏 to buy three pounds of dry cookies just so those boxes wouldn't look pathetic. Forgive the long vent, but that was my experience, and I highly doubt I will be placing another order with them.
🤷 I feel terrible hearing that! Our experience was the complete opposite—everything we got was spot on. Every single piece was high quality, whether we were serving them at home or at the restaurant. No cheap leftovers or scraps. My husband even went to pick up our order this past Friday and watched how they packed everything—he said they have them all lined up, then they go through and pack them box by box, sorting them by type until they hit the weight limit. So, look, maybe you just caught them on a bad day. It sucks that you had that experience, but ours were absolutely flawless. 🙂
So, those treats from Quincy, Brezovia—the bite-sized cookies were absolutely delicious, totally homemade, and the cake was exactly what I was looking for: rich yet light and airy 🙂 and they executed it perfectly, just like the photo I brought in.. 😍 It was gone in a heartbeat!
