How long has the Runjanin Community Health Center been open? Or more specifically, since when have they been accepting samples for sanitary testing? It’s incredibly urgent!!

Period talk: Questions and advice

Ashley Brown81 said:Maybe wait another few days; dieting can definitely throw things off. Otherwise, you could try using Vitamin C to jumpstart things, some strong parsley tea, or even fennel tea...
It’s likely just stress, but I suppose I let it get to me a bit too much since it only happened once during my first pregnancy. 🙂I took a test and it came back negative. I guess there's nothing left to do but wait, or maybe just call up a bartender at a local pub...
Period talk: Questions and advice

I’m wondering if there are any reliable "old wives' tales" or home remedies to jumpstart a period. I’m three days late, though I find it hard to believe pregnancy is the culprit since I just had my routine checkup with my OB-GYN a few days ago, and we've only had one protected encounter since then. I did recently start a new diet, so perhaps that's what's throwing things off? Regardless, I haven't felt any PMS symptoms, nor am I feeling anything now...

Back at our place, the cookies were already laid out on the tables before the guests even walked through the door. Coffee was served twice, though anyone who wanted more could just head over to the counter whenever they felt like it.
What were your biggest pregnancy surprises and pet peeves?

Raymond Adams10 said:I agree with everything mentioned here, so let me weigh in too... I'm currently in a high-risk pregnancy because I had uterine surgery last year, which caught my doctors off guard since I'm only 27. Regarding this whole issue... I tell my best friend about it, and what does she do? She immediately goes out and buys a pacifier and baby bottles. WTF? And every single time we run into each other, she’s asking how the baby is or trying to rub my stomach... Honestly, I regret even telling her. What hurts most is that she just gave birth herself, so she knows exactly how supportive I was toward her—I never suffocated her with stuff like this. 😲😲😲
And there's more to complain about... specifically the sheer volume of diapers (they're basically turning into two Mount Everests now—my husband is thrilled, but he's not the one wearing them, damn it) and the fact that I can't get five hours of decent sleep without having to run to the bathroom constantly. :/
I know exactly how that feels. I’ve dealt with a high-risk pregnancy myself—or at least, that's how it looked for a while. Things have stabilized now, both for me and the baby, but it doesn't stop the constant irritation of everyone around me acting like I'm on my deathbed. Is there any way to get people to just treat you like a normal person again? 🙄
Listen, I’ve finally stopped letting things get under my skin. Honestly, the way I used to react... it just wasn't human anymore.

Nancy Stewart38 said:🤷 I feel terrible hearing that! Our experience was the complete opposite—everything we got was spot on. Every single piece was high quality, whether we were serving them at home or at the restaurant. No cheap leftovers or scraps. My husband even went to pick up our order this past Friday and watched how they packed everything—he said they have them all lined up, then they go through and pack them box by box, sorting them by type until they hit the weight limit.
So, look, maybe you just caught them on a bad day. It sucks that you had that experience, but ours were absolutely flawless. 🙂
We just had the worst luck, didn't we? As a pastry chef myself, I know exactly how cakes and desserts are supposed to be assembled, and it never even crossed my mind to give out random scraps or anything like that... But they tasted good enough, so we made do. I just wanted to share this so if anyone else finds themselves in this situation, they know to speak up immediately.

Or just go ask them directly how many tables they’re setting up and what the actual portion sizes are supposed to be... because when I looked at the standard guidelines, they were telling me I should be prepping 40 kg for 110 guests! Of course, that was obviously overkill, so I had the nerve to call them out on it, and they finally just gave me the straight numbers on the plate count, and that was that.

Is this just for one hall, or what's the full setup?

Nancy Stewart38 said:So, those treats from Quincy, Brezovia—the bite-sized cookies were absolutely delicious, totally homemade, and the cake was exactly what I was looking for: rich yet light and airy 🙂 and they executed it perfectly, just like the photo I brought in.. 😍 It was gone in a heartbeat!
Personally, I was left feeling completely let down; the selection we picked up during our initial tasting was flawless, offering such a wide variety of flavors and textures.
On Friday, just a day before the wedding, I sent my husband and his friend to pick up the pastry boxes for the guests...
When the delivery actually arrived, I honestly felt like sitting down and crying; out of six boxes of assorted treats, four of them were nothing but pies. They technically provided the volume we ordered, but once we started assembling the individual gift boxes, I had to cram half a pound into each one just to make it look presentable. All those wonderful rolls, peach pastries, and specialty sweets meant to fill the variety were dumped into a single box, with only a couple pieces of each kind. What stung the most was finding that they had included the crust scraps from every single type of pastry; how exactly am I supposed to plate a leftover edge of a nut tart? There was also a significantly smaller variety than what we had originally purchased by the pound. While the quality of the pastries themselves was fine—each having its own distinct flavor—it doesn't change the outcome. In the end, I found myself driving to Monica 🙏 to buy three pounds of dry cookies just so those boxes wouldn't look pathetic. Forgive the long vent, but that was my experience, and I highly doubt I will be placing another order with them.

I hope I’m not coming in too late to the conversation, but wouldn't you know it—you can find an identical version of that exact cake at Vincek, so you might as well head over there and ask them for the specifics.

Nathan Cox25 said:Finally picked out the cake. We talked about options on Monday, but we ended up putting down a deposit at Magnolia Bakery today.
We handed over the $33 deposit—payment isn't due until after the wedding.
It’s a four-tier setup, somewhat similar to this (except instead of branches, we're going with little bunny figurines 😁)

Each tier is a different size. For the first three, we can actually do two flavors per level since they're double-layered.
The first two are the same: half Milk Chocolate, half vanilla—chocolate/vanilla combo.
The third one is chocolate orange, and the last is Black Forest (that one isn't a double flavor).
Two tiers have green hearts, the third has a green bow, and one has these vertical stripes. It’s a bit much—colorful everywhere. 🤣 We avoided marzipan because I can't stand it—honestly, I hate almost any kind of fondant—but we ended up going with it anyway. He wanted the look; I wanted the taste. And then there are the bunnies. 😍
Here are the hearts and the stripes 🤣

Nathan Cox25, that cake is going to be fantastic!! 😉
I've always been a fan of the pastries at Magnolia Bakery. To be honest, I was actually pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the pricing was for whole cakes the other day!
Our treats are arriving today... at least the portion meant for the favor boxes and the ones we're keeping at home. 😁 😍

Linda Johnson15 said:That crust separation happens when the pastries are frozen and then thawed... It might be worth letting them know upfront, like, "Look, if these aren't up to par, we aren't paying full price." Or you could use it as leverage if a cake doesn't turn out how you wanted it, just so you can negotiate the final bill down...
It doesn't have to be that way... they could have simply baked the sponge or the crust much earlier so it would have dried out enough to prevent it from sticking to the cream... which, frankly, isn't exactly professional behavior either...

Yeah, I guess everyone’s experience is different. Personally, I could really taste the granulated sugar in a lot of those pastries—you know, that annoying crunch between your teeth? Plus, they were pretty poorly shaped, and every fourth cookie or so had the crust just peeling right off. Honestly, that was a total dealbreaker for me. 👎
I didn't run into any of those issues when I tried them. Is it just a matter of luck? Unfortunately, it seems to be nothing more than a roll of the dice.

I once attended a wedding where they served pastries from Mouse, and honestly, they were pretty decent enough.👍

I have a question... does anyone know where I can pick up some nicer cake toppers besides the selection at Target? 🤷

William Williams13 said:To be honest, everything we tried from Sweet Delights tasted incredibly repetitive, almost like they were all made with the same tub of margarine. We ended up spending quite a bit of time browsing before finally settling on some treats from Tom & Nancy's... I'm crossing my fingers they turn out better. Does anyone here have any experience with them?
From what we tried, they definitely weren't made of pure margarine. I mentioned that the one thing I really didn't want was for everyone to end up with that same repetitive taste, yet somehow, that's exactly what happened. I honestly have no idea how it went so wrong.🤷

That’s exactly why we decided on one layer being white and dark chocolate, a second featuring fruit, and a third being a parfait—likely a mix of chocolate and fruit, probably strawberries. After all, isn't it true that once people have finished a full meal, the last thing they really want is some heavy, cloying cake that sits like a stone in their stomach?

Eric Davis54 said:I’m honestly so bummed out about Sweetie. I really thought at least the pastries wouldn't be an issue, something I could count on, but then I show up and—total letdown—they're closed! 🙂
I might try grabbing some treats from the Sweet Secret bakery over in Stupnik, but I'm lowkey worried their prices will be way higher than $33...🙂
After that, I'll head over to Smile and check out Topolovec! I also heard there's a new pastry shop popping up at the market in Zaprešić—does anyone know anything about their sweets? I've heard their cakes are amazing, but I have no clue about their individual pastries.
We picked up some things from Smile, and I can tell you right now the pastries are excellent. The pies—you know, the cream ones, the white ones, the honey varieties—aren't just those lackluster things where only the icing has any flavor; they are actually delicious and soft, with creams that truly taste like something, and those tiny, flaky crusts that look almost too perfect to eat. They have a wide variety, and quite a few of the pastries are sold by weight. As someone in the pastry industry myself, I am genuinely satisfied. They have my full recommendation.👍
As for the sweet secret, all I've heard is that their quality has taken a massive dive, but that's just hearsay, so 🤷
