Walter Thompson12 said:I wasn't suggesting there was anything wrong with them just because they had an easy pregnancy—God forbid! My point is that there's no need to make comments toward pregnant women who aren't as lucky and are struggling from day one... of course, not everyone is like that, don't get me wrong.🙂 My comment was really about those certain types of people I've run into... you know, the ones saying things like, "Oh, I had contractions at 39 weeks, there's no way you're having them at 20 weeks, it's probably just indigestion or something." That's the kind of thing people say when they haven't actually lived through it. If I haven't experienced something personally, I don't feel right commenting on it like that.

Reddit sorry, I totally misread that 😊

I guess I agree with everything written here.
Walter Thompson12 said:I didn't have twins, but my pregnancy was brutal starting from week 15... I was already feeling those contractions, but everyone was just like, "Nooo, they haven't started yet, it's way too early." And I'm just sitting there thinking, okay, sure, I guess you know my body better than I do... But those comments where people brag about how great they felt—like, "I practically climbed Mount Everest in my third trimester"—those used to really get to me early on. I actually started wondering if something was wrong with me, until I realized the problem wasn't me, it was them....

Why would there be something wrong with them? I guess that sounds a little silly to say. Every pregnancy is different, but I was one of those lucky ones who had zero issues, even in the final weeks. I stayed active and could do everything without any trouble... now that I'm pregnant again, I'm hoping it goes just as smoothly.

Anyway, it looks like I'm the one with the problem 😄

Jesse Perez4 said:I can vouch for that. I've mentioned it before—we picked up a cake and some pastries from Mus, and everything was gone in an instant. We barely had a pound of sweets left to bring back to the office. Everyone was raving about them; usually, I’m a skeptic when a crowd starts praising something, but this time, the evidence was undeniable. 🤣

Cienna was actually quite lovely!

Everyone has different tastes and experiences, and that's fine. 🙂

Some people will love certain pastries while others won't, which is totally normal since we aren't all the same. I was just reacting to a pretty obvious ad.

ambergull38 said:Absum has pretty fair prices, but honestly, the pastries aren't quite that "homemade" or delicious that everyone makes a big deal about. They’re also a bit messy when you go to slice them, and the decorating looks kind of sloppy. I actually confirmed they'll be at the wedding expo at the arena this weekend. Personally, I think Pekar Mus is the better bet—the pricing seems to be right around the same level. $22 For a pound. They make much tastier, better-looking cookies!

What a nice little hidden advertisement 😉

Gerald Vaughn43 said:I need some help here 🤔😉. My fiancé mentioned hearing about this pastry shop back in Columbus that supposedly has incredible homemade desserts, but he can't for the life of him remember the name... apparently, it's right there at the entrance to town 🤔. All I've heard about is Absum, but I don't know if there are others? Does this place actually exist, and does anyone know the name? 😵

Yeah, that's the one. 🙂

I mentioned earlier that those cake prices were $3.25 per person. I guess it's hard to say if they'd be a good fit for you, though. Honestly, your best bet is probably just to head over there and do a tasting, because let's face it—just like any bakery, what one person loves, another might not.

We actually used them for our dessert table and the main cake, and our guests absolutely loved it.

Oh man, I honestly can't remember the exact details! I just know that everything from the cakes $22, the mini cups, the pralines, and the chocolate fountains all have their own individual pricing... So, you either decide on your own how much of everything you want, or you consult with them like we did—they usually give you some advice since they’ve been doing this way longer than us.

Just shoot them an email or reach out on Facebook. Also, I recall they get pretty booked up ahead of time for dessert tables because they only take on maybe two or three setups per day, or something along those lines..

Abraham Lincoln used to work for us. They have a Facebook page and a ton of albums if you want to check them out 🙂

Exactly. You’ve got some people who won't touch a single dessert, while others are capable of polishing off an entire platter by themselves. 😁

When we were at a friend's wedding, she budgeted about three ounces per person, and the desserts at our table were gone instantly—they didn't last the whole night. It's kind of annoying, I guess. I'm probably one of those people who will have a cookie or two, but there were plenty of younger guests at our table who just go all out on sweets. 🙂

We had one of those dessert stations with little cups, truffles, chocolate fountains, pastries... and people were constantly hovering over it and snacking all night long. 😁

Some people think it’s plenty, others think it’s barely anything. For us, we only saw about $2 per person, which feels pretty thin. But I guess for someone else, that might actually be too much...

It’s honestly ridiculous how they categorize things like Icebox cakes or parfaits under basic cake headings, just grouping them in with standard chocolate or Ferrero types...

And you could always just wrap everything in plastic wrap. We actually used plastic wrap for our Icebox cake, and it kept the whole thing completely contained without any mess or leaking at all.

If a pastry chef actually knows what they're doing, you shouldn't have any issues with juices leaking out of the cake. Personally, I think having a wider variety of flavors is always the better way to go.

Lawrence Doyle5 said:So, how many sweets are left over?
I actually heard that about a pound per table of ten people is plenty! And I got that tip straight from the owner of the catering company, so... you know, an actual expert.
Maybe around 10 to 15 ounces? There's no way I'm ordering more than that because I really don't want to end up throwing anything away.

We actually had very little left over, so we just split it among our closest family to take home—it was perfect! We didn't overdo it, and looking at all our numbers, we definitely weren't trying to be cheap. I guess it just depends on the guests and the local area how much dessert people end up eating...

The idea of 20 ounces per person is actually accurate; that’s just the standard norm everywhere. That’s how my friends and I always used to do it.

Thomas Wilson16 said:So, I was at the arena last weekend and gave it a shot. I'm just wondering, though—has anyone actually hired them lately? Are they reliable when it comes to sticking to their word?

We’ve been to a few weddings where they did the catering, and everyone seemed happy with the desserts.

Thomas Wilson16 said:Hey everyone, does anyone have any recent experiences with Absum cakes? I'd love to hear what you all think.

There’s a wedding expo happening at West Gate this weekend, so I assume they'll be there. If you're around, maybe swing by and try their treats.🙂

Susan Smith11 said:Help, I’m actually at a loss here regarding these desserts... I honestly don't know what to do about the catering. Back in February, when I was sampling everything at the expo, Abraham’s stuff was by far the best—everything seemed perfect. But after looking into wedding dessert trends more deeply, I’ve realized that what you taste at a tasting isn't always what actually shows up at the reception. Plus, I've been reading some pretty bad reviews online. I did pick up some treats from Simon, but they were... just okay, I guess. I stopped by King Bakery today since everyone raves about them and they’re definitely better than Simon’s, though they have way fewer options and still aren't exactly incredible. I’ve also been talking things over with Andrew, but I'm not holding my breath, and I'm looking into a small local bakery too. I’m thinking maybe I should just head over to Piece of Cake, Sugarman, or M&M and try those cookies for $43/kg (which feels like an absolute rip-off) just to see if they actually live up to the hype...
Does anyone know if Monica’s pastries are any good? People seem to obsess over her cakes, but nobody ever mentions the cookies. And does anyone know what the pricing is like?

I don't get why everyone gets so worked up over online reviews. We tried them at the expo and at a few weddings, and the quality is consistently great every single time. It would be pretty ridiculous for a business to provide different quality goods for a trade show versus an actual wedding, especially since weddings are their best advertisement...
driftingcrane83 said:Roger Rodriguez, there’s a wide spectrum here. Roughly speaking, I feel like we older moms—I'm 34 myself—especially those of us having our first, are in a slightly different life stage than you guys at 25. Isn't it perfectly understandable that the stress levels hit you much harder?

I can’t even imagine being pregnant at 25. 😁 So, hats off to you all. Keep pushing forward.

I'm currently pregnant and I'm 25 (turning 26 soon), and honestly, it isn't a stressor for me at all. I've always loved kids and wanted to have a little baby as soon as possible; we actually just got married and were lucky enough to conceive right away.

I read this forum occasionally and see a lot of pregnant women who seem constantly stressed out or on edge, and I don't really get why... I'm happier than ever because my biggest wish came true, so I don't understand how other women aren't just relaxed and happy. There are some who are, but from what I read, they seem pretty rare...
