Office meltdown in Psychology & Therapy ·
hiddenstag said:To be honest, I’m at a loss for how to handle my own rage. I’ve always been one of those people who, once I set my mind to something, I see it through to the end. If things don't go according to plan, my first instinct is usually to go off on someone. I’ve actually climbed quite high in my career, and I hold a pretty senior management position now. But what really gets under my skin—what I struggle with most—is seeing people half-ass their jobs or just totally slack off. It throws me completely out of whack, and I feel like I lose all control. There are moments where I just want to smash everything in sight, and it takes me a long time to finally settle down.
I just don't know how to find some calm.

Well, let’s say you accidentally take someone out, but then your buddy comes back and hits you three times harder, which ends up putting both you and your fancy "management role" in check... and there you were, thinking you could just yell at everyone... how many people did you actually go off on like that?...
...what are you, some high-ranking Colonel in the old military or something? Who do you think you're commanding?
you seem to have a massive ego, and honestly, most of the time it feels like it's totally unearned.
I’ve definitely held much higher authority positions than you throughout my entire career, but I’ve never once raised my voice at my coworkers. I never had issues with them, and the job always got done... whether it was easy or hard... doesn't really matter...
...look, there are days when you just can't do it, you're just not feeling it, and everything feels like a total drag... so what do you expect, for people to burn themselves out just because you're the boss and you've got this huge ego?
...you are basically the perfect little cog in the "corporate madness" machine, grinding away without even realizing you're being crushed by it...
...people who take their anger out on "subordinates"—even if those people actually messed up at work—are nothing more than massive cowards. Honestly, I doubt you'll stay in that management spot for very long... nobody is obligated to deal with your stress and your temper, and that feedback is going to come crashing back at you real fast... and they'll be well within their rights to do it...
...maybe try calming down by actually getting in the trenches and doing the same grunt work those people are doing... maybe you'll finally see the world from their perspective for once...

It’s exhausting. Why isn't anyone at City Hall actually paying attention to this? Or better yet, why isn't anyone in Washington trying to actually fix the system and rewrite these laws to make sense?

The whole point of the tax system is to squeeze out as much revenue as possible...
but the whole point of being a taxpayer is to keep as much of your own money as you can...
and honestly, both sides are just playing the game by the rules provided...
