I feel exactly the same way... I wouldn't dream of going back to high school for anything in the world. Honestly, I was just counting down the minutes until that final bell rang on the last day, just so I could finally walk away and never have to lay eyes on any of those people again. Man, what an incredible sense of relief that was.😁
Honestly, my high school experience was even more brutal. It was easily the worst class I’ve ever been in. The constant bullying among everyone... it was just awful.
What if you just switched to a different grade level instead?
If I’m reading her correctly, she felt like none of her previous boyfriends ever truly appreciated her the way this one did...
And yeah, I get the whole "being too nice" thing. I know plenty of people—both guys and girls in my own circle—who struggle with that. Honestly, guys aren't exactly saints either.
It seems like there's this unspoken rule where you can't be *too* good to anyone, because if you are, they eventually get bored and start looking for something else.
🤷 Or, you just end up being taken advantage of because you're being kind and perhaps a little too naive.
But then again, we don't actually know how old you two are, or what the dynamic of those three years was really like... so I guess I won't go out on a limb to judge the author or defend her.
I’d give anything to experience it for just one day. But honestly, I think every single time those "days of the month" roll around, I find myself wishing I was a man instead.😁
At my high school, people are basically drinking and smoking weed right before the bell rings. I don't even need to describe what it’s like during class, because honestly, it feels like the teachers
aren't even surprised by this kind of behavior anymore.
There is really just one teacher I have who actually draws the line; she won't tolerate being late or any of that stuff during her period. She’ll just kick them out and give them two unexcused absences (since it's a block period). If they want to spend their time racking up unexcused absences, then I guess that's on them.
The other day, there were only about ten of us left in the classroom during the first five periods because everyone had wandered off to a nearby park to drink and smoke...
I suppose you should 😁
You really have plenty of time over the summer to start diving into a new hobby. And why does it always have to be some kind of sport? It feels like there are so many other things out there to try. If you happen to be naturally talented at something else, maybe you should just lean into that instead. I’m sure there’s something you actually enjoy doing, besides just staring at a computer screen or the TV all day...
Aha. I I don't know. I was actually pretty much exactly like you described back in freshman year. I didn't really care about anything, I just scraped by with Bs, and I had zero interest in going out or being social... but then everything shifted during sophomore year. I started dressing differently—like, wearing bright colors—changed my hair, and actually started putting in the effort with my schoolwork. I also got to know some people in my class better who ended up becoming my actual friends, and I even found a boyfriend... So, I’m a completely different person now than I was back then. It was definitely just a phase, I guess.
That's probably why I think you're going through the same thing too.
Is it okay to ask how old you are?
I don't think it’s really about how someone looks... I mean, I catch myself people-watching all the time on the subway or at Target. It doesn't necessarily mean I'm judging their outfit or thinking, "Wow, look at what they're wearing." It's more just observing. People observe me too, though I guess I don't always notice it unless the people I'm hanging out with point it out to me.
I honestly can't tell you what might be off-putting about them. And when it comes to teachers... man, they can be such a specific breed. It feels like they always have that one "favorite" student in the class that they dote on. They only seem to actually listen to arguments or opinions from that one person, just like you were saying.
Maybe the best move is to just head out and find some new friends? Because, I guess, if they're constantly shutting you out, they aren't really your friends to begin with.

I have to say, I'm struggling to wrap my head around that too...
Maybe it’s just a phase, I guess... Everyone goes through these shifts where they suddenly want to start going out more, dating, or actually putting in the effort to get better grades..
At least, that’s been my experience so far 🤷
Why would anyone call it a psychological disorder just because people move through life with a 3.0 GPA, don't have a huge social circle, or aren't in a relationship?
I mean, let's be honest—having true, lifelong friends is pretty rare anyway. You might only have one or two real ones, while everyone else is just a "passing acquaintance." And I really don't think academic grades should ever be used as a reason to label someone with a "disorder."
It really just comes down to the fact that some people are more multifaceted than others, while some are less so... or maybe some people just don't fit those categories at all. But that’s just how it is; we're all different.
