Michael Barrett11 said:I honestly don't see the point in lying, especially when the person you're deceiving already knows the truth—kind of like that situation with your mother-in-law...
but I have to hand it to you for that response!

Tina, it really all comes down to how you present things... my mother-in-law is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to this. She insists that nobody understands her, claiming she’s the perfect mother, the ultimate mother-in-law, a tireless worker, a saint, and so on. But anyone who has stepped foot in her house or seen her sons before they moved out sees right through it... it's laughable to me. And poor thing gets lost in her own web sometimes. The other day, she ran into a friend of mine whose husband did some tiling work for us. We paid him in full, but the friend doesn't know that. So, she tells my mother-in-law: "Oh, I just had my son deliver some tiles to the house, you know, they arrived much closer than they should have..." but we aren't even bothered by it!!!
Let me set the scene: I ended up dropping by my mother-in-law’s place the other day, though I really didn't want to. My husband practically sent me there against my better judgment since she hasn't stepped foot in my rental in over three years, so we don't exactly visit her either. I was just picking up a few things in her room when suddenly, bugs start crawling all over the table and even on me. I almost had a heart attack—it was a pretty clear demonstration of her hygiene and cleaning habits... Later that same afternoon, my husband and I were upstairs in the house we're renovating above theirs (WHY ARE WE DOING THIS???) doing some heavy cleaning, when her son and her parents—who they act so incredibly important in front of—came over to visit. Then she brings them all up to our place (WHY???) and sees me with a broom. She starts acting all dramatic: "Oh my goodness, what are you doing? Don't clean, let me do it! I clean every other day after your workers leave anyway!" (TOTAL LIES!!!). She kept telling me I wasn't allowed to touch anything. I finally lost it and snapped: "Then who cleans my apartment? You think your son is going to do it???" To that, he actually says, "Don't do that, let her clean, don't overexert yourself..." My husband hasn't had a hot meal, clean clothes, or a tidy space in three days. I guess I'm just not supposed to "overexert" myself, right?...
I'm counting down the days until delivery, so here are my top five grievances:
5. Every single pregnancy symptom imaginable, but the heavy hitters are the constant nausea since day one and stretch marks stretching from ear to ear..
4. The sheer volume of mindless, outdated, and patronizing advice coming from everyone from my own mother to some random lady on the bus.
3. Feeling judged at every turn, whether it's regarding my paycheck or just trying to get through the line at Walmart.
2. The price gouging on maternity and baby gear is honestly insane. I also recently got burned by those ridiculous hourly rates for home help—makes me wonder why I even bothered with school when someone can make $33 just for sticking three tiles on a wall, or when you pay a premium for a scrap of cheap cotton with a printed pattern on it $33
1. My own insecurity. That irrational fear and the endless cycle of second-guessing every decision, wondering "what if," "how will we manage," and so on..

I've heard that story before... instead of him helping me wash or vacuum the car, he expects me to do everything for him😲

I just got back from washing the car. I always go to the car wash, but I make sure my husband thinks I did it all by myself...
He’s mostly just shocked that I actually need help sometimes because I’m such a fighter. I handle everything at home, run errands, carry the heavy stuff—he basically just provides the sex and the paycheck😂 and now he acts like it's a shock when I tell him to push the cart or carry the groceries... My little snail is a bit confused. I can forgive him, but people like this drive me crazy: "Oh, why did you go to Walmart alone if you aren't feeling up to driving? Oh, sit down, you must be dizzy..."
It’s funny how people who only see me once in a while feel the need to constantly audit my life. They act like I’m some clueless pregnant woman who can't judge her own limits—telling me when I've walked too much, when I should sit down, or how far I should drive...
Then there’s my husband, who takes the complete opposite approach and thinks I’m invincible...
I was in San Francisco this past Thursday, and honestly, I couldn't believe it—in absolutely every single store, people just let me cut right ahead of them, or even the cashiers called me up to skip the line! I spent the entire drive home lecturing my husband about it: you see what life is like in North America, compared to the chaos back in the Middle East...
Elizabeth Edwards10 said:That whole situation used to infuriate me too, especially since our move was delayed throughout the entire pregnancy just because of pure laziness. In the end, he actually managed to get everything done while I was in the hospital—the move and all that—but knowing him, I insisted on hiring a cleaning service. It’s worth every penny, rather than $12/h!
Why don't you all do the same? Just hire someone to get everything spotless the day before you head home from the hospital. I highly recommend my 🙂

That's exactly what I decided to do, hire a cleaner... if anyone knows a reliable, meticulous one in RI, let me know..
I stepped into an elevator at the Salesforce Tower today with five guys, and suddenly everyone started acting like there were too many people in there. EVERYONE was staring me down, being incredibly aggressive, and I ended up being the only one who got out... the whole time it just left me feeling totally diminished...
hollowmarlin49 said:I second this word for word. Honestly, today has been such a rough one since the second I woke up. My husband is driving me crazy because he doesn't get why I'm stressing about the house being spotless before guests arrive, and then he calls me out on it and I end up sobbing like a total mess. Like, I tell him the kids shouldn't come over if the carpets aren't even cleaned, and he’s just like, "Babe, they won't even notice for the first few weeks" 😕 Seriously, wtf?!?!?! But yeah, I'm mostly just getting on my own nerves...

My husband doesn't even realize we have rugs in the house...
I’ve bought everything, washed it all, ironed it, and got it organized. Now I’m just waiting three days for him to bring over a dresser and a crib from his mom’s place—I figured that would be easier...😠
Now I’m just sitting here losing my mind...
Amanda Reed4 said:Look, it isn't just about the Middle East,
just read my previous post,
yesterday I was at Walmart with three ice cream cones and some tourists wouldn't even let me cut in line,
even though there were four registers open and ten people at every single one...
they actually started talking trash about me too...

It's just a general lack of decency—that's the real issue, everywhere and always!!!

Screw the tourists who shop at Walmart while they're on vacation...😂 😂
I've been running around like crazy lately. I was out and about yesterday morning—even hopped on a Greyhound bus—hitting maybe 15 different shops just to get things done (don't even ask how my feet feel right now). I hit the bank, the pharmacy, the doctor's office... and not a single person offered to let me sit down. Not one person gave up a seat for me. Not a soul... Cheers to the Middle East...
So, some guy on the subway just asked if he could go ahead of me because he only had two items. I told him, "Sir, I’ve got three items and a two-pound baby in my gut..." He just turned around...
Yesterday, after I finally finished shopping for my little one, it hit me what actually drove me crazy during this pregnancy: the fact that I just dropped 11 $0.00 on stuff that fits into a single medium-sized moving box, and my kid is going to outgrow, vomit on, or poop all over it in a matter of months... Long live the American baby boom
It’s honestly wild how my husband still hasn't caught on that I'm pregnant... I can't stand out in the sun for three hours, I can't wait around for two hours at a time, we aren't hiking the Rockies this weekend, I definitely can't lug thirty grocery bags around, I'm paranoid someone might bump into me, I have to pee constantly, I need a nap... just leave me alone...
Kate Cox2 said:I mean, I truly don't understand...😕
is it sheer human stupidity? Is it jealousy? Pure malice???
What is it??

I look back at things from five years ago involving my own relatives. By then, they already had kids, whereas my spouse and I had decided to just live our lives, be hedonists, and enjoy being just the two of us for a little longer. It was as if they were somehow jealous that we were still actually enjoying ourselves—while they were all miserable, stuck in their endless "domestic servitude." 👎
I mean, seriously...🤷

Most of my friends deal with unplanned pregnancies, and I'm actually in the worst possible position regarding this because they all have moms or mothers-in-law living right upstairs or downstairs, super flexible jobs, or they work for their husbands...
Me? I don't have a built-in babysitting service, my mother-in-law is non-existent, I have strict office hours, and in these last 8 months, I haven't once complained to them about how hard things are...
And I never let them make me feel inferior for not having kids yet and just enjoying life with my husband...
In these last few days—and there’s probably another month and a half left of this—honestly, just go home and lie down. Don't bother showering, don't step foot outside, don't exert yourself. Just stay in bed. Don't eat anything except fruit. Sleep while you can, because you're all about to get screwed. You better get all that sleep in now, since you won't be getting any more anytime soon. Go grab a coffee while you still have the chance, or go catch a movie at the AMC, because there won't be any films playing for the next several decades... JUST STAY POSITIVE!
Douglas Booth22 said:I have a question, and since I wasn't sure which thread was appropriate, I'll just drop it here.
Is it actually okay for a pregnant woman to attend a funeral? I've heard some old wives' tales suggesting that many pregnant women end up getting sick or vomiting after attending one.😕

Colleague, that's just an old tradition: they say pregnant women and toddlers shouldn't go to cemeteries... I always followed that rule, but mostly because during this pregnancy I've decided to only focus on the positive vibes
Frank Morales6 said:Because I started tearing up right then and there, and I wasn't about to give her the satisfaction of seeing it.

I mean, come on, you could have at least given her a little smack with those things. Like, "sorry, my hands are shaking because I'm pregnant"...
@rustyrider20: why are you feeling bad for me? I'm practically begging for scraps at the playground every other day just to get anything, whereas you probably look all sweet and charming while I just look like a massive pregnant woman
Ollie, why didn't you just call someone higher up her chain of command??? I’m completely unapologetic when dealing with government bureaucrats; I know my rights. I make sure to get all my facts straight first, and then I let them have it when they try to give me the runaround, bouncing me from one desk to another... not to mention how incredibly awkward that whole situation gets...
I showed up at my OBGYN’s office at 6:45 AM to grab that maternity leave paperwork, and there were already seven women ahead of me. Then three massive pregnant women lined up right behind me, and not a single person thought to let the three of us who actually look like we're struggling go first... just sad...
