I'm officially entering my misanthrope era in Psychology ·
Of course it isn’t... man, if we could just have one single day without some idiot breathing down our necks so we could finally get rid of everyone who drives us up the wall...
I work in this super niche specialty shop, right? And every single time, some clueless person wanders in and basically announces, "I have absolutely zero clue what I'm doing, please help me." So, I walk them through it and give them two clear options—because trust me, I tried offering more than two once and it just turned into a total clusterf***—but they still just stand there staring blankly at the shelves like a deer in headlights. They end up wasting my precious time, time they could be using for literally anything else instead of just being a complete drain on my sanity...
Like, seriously, what does a label even mean to you? You literally admitted you don't get it, so just take the one I suggested and beat it!

hahaha, oh man...
and just imagine how much fun I'm having over here—currently serving my life sentence working at the local Chamber of Commerce...

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏oh boy, oh boy... my absolute favorite part is when someone walks up to ask a question, but they don't even have a clue what they want or how to phrase it... I swear, I'd just start screaming if I could...

It’s like... I just take a quick glance at downtown, right? And what do I see? A massive swarm of tourists wandering around aimlessly like they don't even have heads attached to their bodies. Just these stinky crowds, decked out in their bargain-bin, cheap-ass clothes with beer bellies sticking out everywhere. Honestly, it drives me absolutely insane...

I make a conscious effort to let most of his "nonsense" slide without a word. If I didn't, I’d probably lose my mind and go way too hard on him.

Bottom line: I adore him, but there are moments I can't stand him. (Keep in mind, he's an adult now, living pretty independently—basically the way I'd live if I were in his shoes.)

Well, you’re at least ahead of the game since he’s already a big kid... honestly, I find myself wondering if I’ll even have the stamina for a toddler who demands constant attention and requires me to basically mold their entire personality from scratch!
I actually feel lucky because I ended up with a partner who is incredibly similar to me... we both have those moments where we just don't talk when we don't feel like talking, and the best part is there’s zero boredom or that nagging guilt that someone isn't being "entertaining" enough.
We were just chatting about how great it is that we live together without constantly stepping on each other's toes...
I was even thinking maybe it's because neither of us grew up with siblings running around... we mostly just raised ourselves.

People have this exhausting way of wearing me down and getting on my nerves—even those closest to me eventually—so I find myself at my absolute happiest when I'm flying solo. It happens more often than you'd think ( 😁 ) where I just won't bother opening the front door, I'll let the phone ring indefinitely, and I won't venture any further than the local Target.
My career requires me to be constantly talking and managing others, which I don't mind, but once I'm home, my house is my sanctuary of peace, solitude, and total autonomy.
I don't even invite people over for visits. 😁
My family tells me that being this neurodivergent isn't healthy, but honestly, I fail to see the problem. I'm perfectly content. When I feel like being social, I am, but most of the time, I have zero desire to see a soul.
It's as simple as that.

I AM SIGNING THIS!!!

Here’s another one for the pile... I’ve basically whittled my social circle down to just three or four people. Two of them are a bit much, so I have to dole out my attention in tiny little drops just to survive! Unfortunately, because of my job, I’m forced to deal with a massive crowd of all sorts of random people every single day, and honestly, it drives me absolutely insane... it gets worse every damn day. I started feeling this way about four or five years ago, and now that I’m hitting 30, it's just hit a boiling point.
I genuinely love being home alone. I never get bored. That’s why I just don't get people who constantly need a crowd around them just to stave off boredom!

Now I’m sitting here wondering—am I just being selfish and self-centered? I feel like most of the stuff people talk about is just mindless, surface-level chatter. It makes me think, "Could we maybe discuss something actually intelligent?" Otherwise, I’d rather just sit there in silence.

And then there's the big question: how on earth am I going to adjust once I have a kid? It’s something I’m terrified of, but at the same time, I really want it to happen.
Any parents in the house?
Mediocrity is everywhere in Psychology ·
crimsonviper88 said:To’s what mediocrity looks like to me: just following some pre-set path, living inside a mold. Constant routine, life being a total bore, and having zero desire to actually change it.
Once you get settled into this daily grind, anything that sticks out from the norm feels like a killer right from the jump. And when stuff goes wrong? People just shrug and say, "Eh, whatever, nothing I can do." That’s pure passivity right there.
Like I said, I guess I'm becoming that way too 😢 part of it is my own fault, and part of it is just the environment around me.

Just because something makes you happy doesn't mean it'll do the same for someone else...
But mediocrity isn't what you described....not even close...
Look, we're all following some kind of path. As we get older, we might be less willing to shake things up, but that’s strictly because we’ve gained experience and learned to be more careful...that has nothing to do with being mediocre, and it definitely isn't about being bored with life...
I personally know plenty of people and couples who have run in the same social circles for years, hitting up the same spots, and they aren't bored at all because they're actually living high-quality lives!

In my book, being mediocre means doing absolutely nothing to improve yourself. Let me emphasize this: WORK ON YOURSELF. By that, I mean intellectual growth, refusing to embrace the changes time brings, or shutting yourself off to new knowledge... THAT is mediocrity...

And hey, you don't have to be mediocre, regardless of how many "average" people you call your friends... because one day, once you actually start working on yourself, you'll find your circle expanding to include people who live the exact same lifestyle as you.
While I was reading through your post, one thought just kept looping in my head—I really have to ask, how old are you actually?
Thanks for the heads-up on that... because honestly, it matters!
First off, I’m thinking this might just be one of those passing crises you get at a certain age... I mean, psychologists could probably give you a much more clinical breakdown of what's happening... I've read plenty about it... tons of young people hit that stage where they start questioning everything—where their life is headed, if they're even happy, all that deep stuff...

But I also firmly believe it is never too late to hit the reset button and start from scratch...
Look, I'm 30 myself, and if we look back over the last, say, eleven years, I've had to rebuild my life from zero several times... ON MY OWN...
And yeah, here I am at 30, doing it all over again... and sure, I'm terrified because you never truly know what the future has in store, but there's also this excitement because I know it'll eventually lead to something beautiful!

So, you mentioned wanting to move to a big city for college... what's the hold-up? If you have the means, just go. Do it now. A move like that is definitely going to bring a lot of joy, but let's be real, it brings a massive load of responsibility and obligations too, since you'll be looking out for yourself. But hey, those are the "good" kind of problems to have, and besides, you're basically building your self-confidence at the same time!

I totally get why your friends are getting on your nerves, too... honestly, it's completely normal. In a way, they aren't really "friends" anymore... they're just people you grew up with, and childhood nostalgia is the only thing holding you together. You don't share the same ideas, the same outlook on life, or probably even the same basic habits anymore... so, you've gotta realize that real friends will naturally find you once you're in a bigger environment... you'll eventually cross paths with someone you actually click with, whether it's in your social circle or when it comes to dating...
Bigger pond, more fish!

Anyway, I've rambled enough... but you seriously need to figure out what "happiness" looks like for you as a starting point, and then lay down the first stone on that path to go find it... GOOD LUCK!!!
