Should R. Čačić just step down from politics already? in Close to Politics ·
darkfox5 said:Ha, ha... "the party leadership said it"... as if the leadership isn't just Čačić himself. You can't seriously believe anyone is allowed to talk back to him, right?

But that’s exactly my point—that’s why I keep saying he runs the whole party like it’s his own private corporation...

Harold Wright6 said:Honestly, it might be better if he just stays within the Democratic Party for now, rather than letting everyone see what kind of organization they actually run. ☕ At least that way, we don't find out the full extent of things until there's a trial, assuming he’s actually guilty. Their tiny voter base doesn't really care anyway, as long as they keep banging on about the war and the diaspora, Ferenčar. Čačić and his crew can basically do whatever they want...

Even if he is guilty, people are already whispering about him getting probation...

Not to mention the civil damages he'll likely have to pay out to the family...

That's how some of our own legal experts and even those lawyers over in Canada used to frame it back in the day...

Now, whether there's any actual substance to that theory remains to be seen...

darkfox5 said:Even without a courtroom, Čačić knows his own negligence caused the accident that killed two people... he actually admitted it himself yesterday. So, we aren't even debating the facts here!

So, let me ask you this: should a person who kills two people through pure negligence ever be allowed back in politics? Should they really be leading a political party and acting like that party stands a prayer of winning the next election?! ☕

According to him—and he claims this represents the view of the party leadership (assuming he isn't just putting words in their mouths)—that...

And look, if the rest of the party members don't agree with him, I'm pretty sure any decent political organization has enough internal mechanisms in its bylaws to strip someone of their chairmanship...

Look, if the party thinks he's completely blown it, they can always just slap him with a vote of no confidence... honestly, that shouldn't be much of an issue at all...

Roger Hughes14 said:You just won't listen to me... You think the Democratic Party is some private company owned by Čačić? It’s a public institution. There are members, there are supporters who aren't even members, and the party benefits from them. This isn't about whether it's a public service or running a political party... it's about moral responsibility. His actions could end up damaging the party's reputation.

The police officer who pulled over Bandić was fired, then eventually reinstated after a while.

Party reputation? Give me a break...

He wasn't fired, he was suspended... those are two very different things—and there were already reports about it...

redhawk76 said:To suggest that serving as a party chairman is merely a "private business" or a "private function" is quite a stretch. 😂 (Though, given how Čačić operates, it certainly feels like a private enterprise... 😉)

Please, spare us the nonsense; either present a credible source that supports this bizarre "classification of functions," or let's move on. 🤣

Look, I’m talking specifically about Čačić's situation, not making sweeping generalizations about how political parties work in general...

The man set himself up and runs the whole thing like it's his own private corporation...

He climbed to that position through a completely different route than the people working at AT&T or HOO...

Roger Hughes14 said:Look, if he cited moral responsibility when leaving one role, he should have left the others for the exact same reason. Morality isn't selective.
With that bolded part, you actually proved my point; if he didn't get there directly, he can leave the same way (via moral responsibility)...

So, you're one of those people who plays guessing games about impact speeds and collisions?

Interesting...

Oh, please, you're splitting hairs. In this situation, both sides are potential killers. Would it be right if Bandić, God forbid, ran over two people while drunk and resigned from office out of moral responsibility? That's really all there is to it.

Wait, Bandić was drunk and fled the scene of the accident, he consciously and intentionally broke the law. Čačić wasn't... Čačić might not be the most likable guy, but in this specific case, he's actually behaving correctly so far...

A police officer stopped Bandić, he didn't flee. The officer lost his job shortly after. Disgraceful.

So, let me get this straight—if you had a private business and sat on various boards, would you just abandon everything? Both your job and your board seats?

Actually, after being pulled over, Bandić refused the breathalyzer, kept driving, and the cop didn't lose his job...

Why are you so hell-bent on pushing these lies?

Čačić is the president of the Democratic Party; he isn't holding a public office like Bandić was back when he served as Mayor...

And Čačić *is* stepping down from public duties... you're completely mixing up apples and oranges here.

Roger Hughes14 said:Then he lied. One person died, and another was dying.

And what makes you think you actually know when he found out?

You’re lying too—the second person wasn't "fading"... they had been stable and out of critical danger for quite a while, and then, just because of some complications, they passed away...

Roger Hughes14 said:Are you talking about R. Čačić?
You probably wanted Bandić's resignation when he drove drunk, and I think he should have stepped down. He was drunk behind the wheel, while Čačić drives too fast; the end result could be the same... dead people.
Čičin-Šainka tried to run over police officers, and nothing happened...

So, you're one of those people who thinks they can play expert on speed estimates and predicting collisions, huh?

Interesting...

Roger Hughes14 said:It’s obvious, it’s the same guy. This is about moral responsibility, regardless of whatever title he holds. The fact that he was celebrating in Barack Obama's campaign headquarters just proves there isn't a single thing he won't calculate for his own benefit.

Actually, it isn't the same...

The Democratic Party is basically set up as his own private little operation—he essentially built it himself...

As for those spots in HTS and HOO, he didn't earn them through merit; he was simply appointed...

Being a member or holding an office within the TS is one thing, but being part of the actual party is a completely different ballgame...

It's just like being part of the HOO...
I honestly don't get why everyone is coming for the refs... they were getting hammered yesterday, and now they're giving the Icelanders a hard time too...

And then you have those refs letting us play super aggressive, physical ball—interesting guy...
Sure, the officiating was fair enough... they kept things pretty balanced when it came to penalty calls, red cards, and fouls in the attacking third...

Honestly, once the refs actually stick to a consistent standard, eighty percent of the battle is already won—any mistakes that slip through after that are just down to a momentary lapse in focus, not some kind of conspiracy...
kukuriza said:They were screwed when Wenta got that yellow card. After the Polish keeper saved the shot—it bounced right off him and back into the player's space—he grabbed the ball. You get a two-minute penalty for that, but instead, the refs gave Wenta a yellow and handed possession back to the Americans.

That’s where they got robbed. I'm not 100% certain he actually grabbed it—on TV, it looked like he did—but if anyone has a replay, let's set the record straight.

Otherwise, honestly? The officiating felt fair enough. The Americans earned everything, including that ejection.

The only mistake was the single wrong penalty for the Americans; Gojun was charging at an American player, but they kicked Vori out instead.

First off, you can pick up a ball in flight, unless it's rolling along the floor (which is an automatic throw-in) or hits a player standing in the designated space/on the line (again, throw-in).

You don't get a two-minute penalty just for grabbing a ball, unless the refs have already signaled a specific play and the opposing player acts like an idiot by snatching it away from the spot. There are a few other scenarios, but they all hinge on the ref clearly signaling the throw and its direction first.

Moving the ball like that is what gets you penalized with two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

But even if what happened actually occurred, it doesn't justify the coach's meltdown. Look, I get it—I understand why the guy reacted that way.

But he made a conscious choice to go off and lecture them... and this is a guy who played professionally; he knows exactly how refs react to that kind of noise.

And Vori could have easily been hit with a two-minute penalty himself for pulling a player by the arm from behind. It really just comes down to what the refs see and what they call first. Usually, the rule is you only penalize one player per foul, so you look at who committed the initial infraction.

Though, there's that old-school refereeing rule: if you aren't sure, someone's gotta go.
Austin Grant9 said:They aren't any better than us on the wings, and they definitely don't have the edge on the line,
I’d say they’ve got the advantage on the perimeter and in terms of pure individual talent,
plus our goalies are pretty much neck-and-neck now—Mirko has really stepped up his game.

Not stronger than us on the wings? Come on.

Major props to Čupić and Štrlek, sure, but Abalo is playing in a completely different league compared to them...

And let’s not even get started on how inexperienced Štrlek is—he just can't find an answer for Guigou... especially when you factor in the veteran experience gap.

Adam Collins4 — what about you? Since you claim to be an expert, what’s your verdict on him? 😁

Personally, I think the guy is great... he's actually enjoyable to listen to 😍

Check out the part around 1:18 🙏 🙏 🙏

He's definitely interesting to listen to—the man is a top-tier coach... though I doubt he'd get along very well with this loudmouth...

Plus, I've never been a fan of people who treat players like that...
shadowgardener10 said:They looked rough in the first half—honestly, considering how they were playing, staying even on the scoreboard was a minor miracle. The offense finally found its rhythm later on.

The Americans are better, and frankly, if we pull this off, it’ll be a massive upset. But hey, maybe that’s our edge—they’re the ones feeling the heat here...

Just making it to the finals is a huge win in itself—especially when you look at all those other powerhouse teams that couldn't even sniff a semifinal. The Americans are arguably the best squad on the planet right now, so I’m not going into tomorrow expecting miracles...

LINO IS OUT! ☕

If we play defense the way we did against the Danes—even if Mirko isn't quite at his peak compared to then—we definitely have a shot...

Especially if we handle the penalty shootout aggressively, catching them before they can even get their footing and take the shot...

And in every single matchup, you just have to show that hunger to win—try to rattle the Americans and knock them off balance...

Get them struggling, getting in each other's heads, and probably complaining to the refs more than anything else...
Nicholas Lopez6 said:Look, I’m talking about that specific moment when the Americans realized the clock was running out and they just decided to go all-in on an all-or-nothing play.

If they knew there were only a few minutes left, anything could have happened—honestly. But knowing Lino Červar, I know he would have managed to pull everything together even in those absolute chaos moments.🤣

I have to admit, Červar was incredibly calm today, which actually caught me off guard...

He even took that composed approach against the Danes... well, as much composure as you can muster...

I get the feeling that after playing Austria, he realized it’s just smarter to let that other guy lose his mind and yell...

It works with the refs too—as soon as they see one guy screaming for no reason, they’re way more likely to listen to the calmer one... maybe even actually respect what he's saying...

I’m hoping he stays as level-headed as possible against the Frenchmen, though since it’s the championship game, tensions are obviously going to be through the roof...

Especially because Onesta has shown throughout this tournament that he’s been pretty high-strung... which isn't really his usual style... so, let him run wild. Honestly, any help is good help at this point, even if it comes from the opposing coach...
Gregory Ramos3 said:The bright side is that Mirko’s defense from the wing has leveled up significantly🙂

That might just be the edge we need.🤷

I'm with you on that...

If Shola is the one who taught him that—and let's face it, he's the only one who could—then hats off to him...

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about Shola handling the goalkeepers, but in that specific department, he's really delivered...

And you can tell Mirko is actually feeding off every single save now. I didn't really notice that during previous seasons; it’s like every stop builds his momentum even more...

He doesn't even seem rattled by a bad stretch in the game—he just maintains this steady level of focus because he knows deep down he has those saves in him...

Though, honestly, when we face the Frenchmen, we're going to need every single trick in his playbook.
Nicholas Lopez6 said:Anyway, back to the point—huge props to our boys. That game was just classic, total chaos right until the buzzer. If they’d had even another minute or two of play, I honestly think we would've pushed it into overtime, assuming luck was actually on our side for once.🙄

Hard to say... just another one of those calls that Winnie would absolutely lose her mind over if she were watching...

And that probably would have been the end for the Poles too—just like how it ended when that warning went out and the ball was handed over to our guys...
