I told you guys—taking a break from the forums is actually a great idea every once in a while... Honestly, these threads can get pretty exhausting. Plus, it’s the end of the year, so why not?

Wishing you all a very happy New Year, along with all the luck and big wins the universe decides to toss your way.

Here's a little tip: just fly out to Hawaii, take your executive assistant along, stay for a week, and when you get back, just tell the President it was a "necessary business expense." If the big shots in D.C. can pull it off, surely we can too... unless we're just being naive here.

Carol Price4 said:Honestly, Jessica Grant56, we’re all just playing pretend here—I mean, what accountant in their right mind could stay sane with all these constant rule changes and endless updates?🤣

You’ve gone pretty quiet lately—is work just burying you, or are you already settling into that winter hibernation mode? 🙂

Come on over! ☕

First off: I tend to step away from the forums whenever the flood of silly questions hits a certain threshold. And yeah, I say "silly"—they aren't necessarily bad questions, they're just basics. If you're working in this field, you really should know the fundamentals. A standard textbook on small business accounting isn't exactly a luxury; any beginner should be able to pick one up and learn the ropes. Don't get me wrong, I ask questions too, but I always check my resources first. I think it's the same for most of you—when things get overwhelming, the only real cure is to just take a breather...

Secondly: I am absolutely swamped with work, yet I have zero motivation left. It's not even about the money anymore. When I start thinking about how much the government skims off the top, it honestly makes me lose interest in every single job. I'll quote a price for a few editing projects at $10,000, and people act like it's an absolute fortune. But once I factor in all the overhead—travel, the service vehicle, tools, the computer, supplies, etc.—and then deal with the self-employment taxes, I'm lucky if I clear about $1.25. That's barely enough to scrape through a month! I imagine it's similar for you guys, though maybe your overhead is lower. How many clients do you actually need just to pull in a decent $1.75 salary? Is it ten, twenty, or more?

I can't help but feel like this forum is reflecting the general sense of hopelessness and apathy in this country. We're surrounded by this arrogant "elite" class buying cars that cost more than >, while regular people are taking 10% pay cuts—going from, say, $60k down to $55k—and having to rely on public transit. Or you have doctors who think they deserve $120,000 or more just for "consulting" or some other excuse. With everything going on, it's hard to find the energy for a forum like this... or even the energy to live in an environment like this.

Carol Price4 said:We were busy sorting through paperwork and putting up new filing shelves, but we took a breather today, 🙂

More to do tomorrow...

Jessica Grant56 is such a night owl—she stays up way past the nightly news and is still wide awake at 2 AM 😁

I can only imagine how much money is involved when they start installing this many shelves!!!

Honestly, I think I'm the only one who can handle this chaotic, overcomplicated job—mostly because I work best when there isn't a single person or animal around to distract me. If I could just tune out everything else, maybe I'd actually absorb some sense from this circus everyone's making of us. I seriously can't tell if you guys are actually sane or if you're just putting on an act...

Carol Price4 said:😂 Well, now you tell me, Jessica Grant56... you asked for it, and now you've got it, 🤣

I certainly got it... though mostly just some dumplings with plums, so I asked New York if I could aim for a 12 out of 10? No way... maybe a 10? Actually, even that feels like too much—I won't go below an 8, but honestly, what kind of decent person settles for an 8 when it comes to dumplings?!?

And if there's such a thing as someone with two left hands in the kitchen, that's definitely me. Sure, if something burns or if I forget an ingredient from the cookbook—which happens—it’s a minor sin. But it’s almost a guarantee that if I drop a spoon, a glass, or a knife, that weird sink water is going to splash everywhere. It actually turned into this genuine fear of appliances—the mixer once lashed out at my fingers, so that was a "never again" moment—and sinks, and even the dishwasher, though I can manage to turn it on if everything is tucked inside. And I can take things out once they're clean. So, for the last forty years or so, the most adventurous thing I’ve dared to make is a boiled egg—soft or hard, depending on the mood. Or maybe a pudding with those inevitable little lumps—no matter how hard I try, they always find a way to exist. But hey, on the bright side, I have every single delivery number in my contacts list!!! If a place looks good online but doesn't have weight behind it, I just ring them up: "Yeah, give me five gyro wraps, please—extra onions and peppers... oh, and fries... and sure, a Budweiser would be great." I did the math, and after paying all my bills, what the government sends my way leaves me enough for pizza and gyros for about fifteen days, and whatever is left over is really up to God's discretion... So, yeah, that's my life.

Has she had one too many cocktails and decided to start painting everything in sight?!? She’s certainly got a lot to say!! Does she seriously not realize it’s a massive sin not to cook (at least) some pasta? You’re only allowed to debate things in the evening if you've met the first requirement—having a hot dinner ready. And yeah, am I a man-show... show... what’s the word?? A chauvinist??

Militi Bog, where on earth have you been... totally off the map. It feels like everyone is just running wild around here lately.

amberbadger17 said:Yeah, everything’s gone quiet. Huh. So, Jessica Grant56, if I’m being totally honest—I’ve been dodging the news lately. Just some coffee and maybe a quick scroll through Facebook. Honestly, I’d much rather laugh at some weird posts or people’s strange moods than deal with those depressing headlines. Man, this coffee is hitting the spot this morning... I even managed to light up a cigar, which has actually been helping me chill out lately. Don't even start with the "it's not healthy" talk... nothing's been particularly healthy lately, anyway. Peace to everyone!

A cigar, you say?? A Cuban one? Man, I'd love to see that!

I’m telling you—this dead silence on the boards is a clear sign that something’s gone wrong here... maybe it’s just the seasonal slump, I guess? Or maybe it's all this constant banning, the endless apologies, and some weird kind of internal politics at play. Honestly, I'm just over it. I’ve reached the point where peace and quiet—just sitting back and reading the news—is actually more valuable. Unless someone genuinely needs a hand with something, there’s really no reason to even jump in.

Man, I wish it were that easy... but then you get hit with a massive fine or some legal headache two and a half years later, right? It’s crazy what they pull. It’s been over two years already, but how long does this actually last? Is it six? Eleven? Maybe you have to keep those records perfectly filed for your entire life.

ruggedcyclist74 said:Do you have any written proof that you actually requested an inspection?
If not, I’d suggest sending a formal written request to the IRS via certified mail with a return receipt requested. Give it some time; even they have certain regulatory windows they're required to operate within...

Of course I do... but honestly, with the way they're squeezing people right now, you might as well just give them everything you own. It feels like you're guilty just for being productive. Or for breathing, really.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I already paid the sales tax. Honestly, I’m not even going to mess with it—if they decide to hit me with interest because I was a day late or something, then I guess I'll just deal with the headache later...

I can't remember seeing this kind of overreach before—at least not in the twenty years since I made the mistake of leaving government work for the private sector. And man, life was easy back when I was on a federal job; the pay was solid and reliable... No dealing with tax auditors or those little pests looking for trouble. You didn't have to worry about whether there was $2.25 extra change (like pennies or nickels!!) or if you were short by ten cents. It always comes back to this: if you're actually working, you're bound to make a mistake eventually!

Ashley Vaughn79 said:Whenever I run into these kinds of tasks, I usually just assume I'm working with balances carried over from previous business transactions... 🤷
So I guess I'd just list what I have partially and leave the rest blank...

I found the info for equity, thanks. 🙂
I also found a balance sheet in some college textbook that should work, I think. 😁

Thanks, I might need it. 🙂

Okay, sorry... I won't again. 😳 🙂

Anyway, you guys just keep chatting—there's always something to learn, really. But honestly? I enjoy this chat most when we aren't talking about work, politics, or all the nonsense and drama...

This is where you come to escape everything else, from actual life problems to just some people being ridiculous... I've finally realized there are some professional haters out there who actually mean every single bitter thing they post!

Hey ladies, look—this is just a chat thread for hanging out and venting, not some formal debate hall! I didn't expect everyone to jump straight into such a heavy discussion. Honestly, I wasn't even sure where this would fit, but if there isn't a specific spot for it, maybe we should just start a dedicated thread. Though, knowing how things work in the USA, I highly doubt we’ll find any smart solutions to the sheer nonsense happening in our country.

Actually, I've got something weighing on my mind too: the nightmare of inventory management. How am I supposed to find the "absolute truth" regarding 220 pounds of write-off stock? I've been sitting on it for two years just waiting for an inspector to show up, but there isn't a single company in my small town that handles buybacks, nor is there anyone willing to give me a formal receipt proving I actually tossed it. Typical USA, right? Just total madness.

ruggedcyclist74 said:Are we dealing with a sudden bout of dementia here, or did you just have a particularly distracting visit from an old flame? 😂😂😂

I actually had a bit of a headache involving one of those invoices today. At first, I assumed they were refusing to issue a receipt for the deposit just to dodge some sales tax liability, but once they emailed me an invoice for a service that hasn't even been performed yet—complete with a description that was wildly inaccurate—it hit me that people genuinely have no idea what they're doing. I've decided to just wash my hands of the whole mess and wait until the job is actually finished...
They seem utterly bewildered because they heard that the old way of handling prepayments doesn't exist anymore... They just aren't keeping up.

+Well, look, you'll eventually reach my age, though I'm certainly not planning on reaching yours... so I'll be sure to check in and see how you're holding up!

Lili keeps messing with me, and all I can do is keep asking: "Where does it actually say that?" You know, like I'm just now catching on—get real! Come on, Lili, that’s not fair. Don't tease me like that; I finally realized that I shouldn't even bother.

Quick question about Sales Tax: I paid it on the 20th when I sent over the statement, so I'm wondering if they're going to hit me with interest?? It used to be totally fine, but who actually profits from stealing those two days between when I pay and when they actually acknowledge it's been paid?!? The big banks, obviously...

And, just because I love being a nuisance, I'm copying this again:

lili p. says: Check Vlado's post. Pull yourself together. Just ignore the posts that upset you and go grab yourself something strong.

Vlado3 says: Were you trying to say I should pick you?

Koment by žločko: ha, ha, ha, ha...

Henry Edwards33 said:Oh, Vladimir Putin...

Look, I don't need an itemized receipt for some ancient history from a million years ago... 🙄

🤣

Go ahead and keep shouting—honestly, we're pretty much used to it by now. But I’m still asking: what does that even mean, and where is it actually written? For instance, I’ve got clients who just wired $10,000 for merchandise that won't even arrive until September 5th. What am I supposed to do then—just ignore the fact that I need to issue a deposit invoice and handle the sales tax? Okay, okay, maybe I'm a little slow on the uptake here, but hey, at least I drive well.

Cheers, Vlado, the king of drama.
