Can someone please tell me (or just DM me) a bit more about what secondary nose surgery is actually like?
Basically, I already had my initial procedure done at the Mayo Clinic, but I’m still dealing with some issues with one of my nostrils—plus, a little bump has popped up lately.
You can find a price list on John Smith's website—he actually has a specific one for tip rhinoplasty. I only mentioned him as an example so you could get a general idea of the cost range. Since he’s pretty much the only one who lists prices online, just keep in mind that with other doctors, things could easily swing by $1,000—$667 or more, up or down.
I'm honestly not sure who I'd recommend to you. Maybe browse through some photos on sites for people like Michael Johnson, Dr. Garcia, Dr. Thompson, Dr. White, or Dr. Davis.
There isn't anything on the price lists for Bagatin, Smith, or Thompson—they just have standard rhinoplasty listed, which isn't even what I need. As for the others? No price lists or anything at all.
That's why I'm asking... since this isn't such a common procedure, does anyone have any actual, concrete info? From experience, I know they won't tell you a thing over the phone unless you basically cough up $67 just to get them to talk, and I just want a rough ballpark figure.
Like, which surgeons in Chicago would you actually recommend—what are we looking at for prices, recovery time, all that good stuff?
I can't find anything useful without it being about America—everything that pops up is just foreign pages, and I can't even get a ballpark idea of what things cost here.
Charles Fox8 said:They really did a number on him—honestly, I can't say how long it took for the swelling to actually go down, but it was definitely at least two months. It just takes time to settle, you know? But man, I had a pretty intense reaction... my eye capillaries actually burst, and I was looking purple for at least three weeks. So maybe my swelling lasted way longer than average.
The doctor's whole explanation was basically "don't worry about it" and "it's all still swollen, it'll calm down" (that was his take on both the bump and the asymmetrical tip) 🤷—I didn't even bother going back after that. As the rest of my nose slimmed down, the collapsed tip actually ended up looking even worse and more obvious over time. Though, I don't have those bumps you're talking about anymore. I’ve got this tiny little thing at the bridge, but you can't see it unless you're staring super closely, and you can only feel it if you touch it. That popped up maybe a week or two after the surgery.
Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I honestly don't know what to think—this slow recovery is driving me crazy.
By the way, what's the deal with bumps or hits? I'm two weeks out from surgery, one week since they took the splint off, and I already managed to drop my phone right on the tip of my nose—plus I bumped it against a coworker's shoulder while trying to give her a hug. Now I'm low-key terrified it might mess up the final shape.
briskmason42 said:I really hope things turn out okay for you—honestly, that’s exactly how it went for me. Right after they removed the mold, everything looked totally flat, but now—four months later—I’ve got a revision scheduled... I have to go back under the knife because I ended up with this hump that's super noticeable, and now my nose looks crooked too. 🙂 Look, since you’re saying there's a bruise there and your nose is actually broken—I mean, seriously—I think you should probably just back off. Maybe sit this one out? Just my two cents. 🙂
Did they break your nose too? Like, what kind of surgery did you actually end up having? And what was the doctor's take on that bump—is there even an explanation for it?
Charles Fox8 said:I had one side totally flat and the other kind of bumpy too—honestly. But that bumpy side looks pretty even today; I guess it was just swollen before. The flat side feels like a slide now, which ended up giving me this massive asymmetry at the tip... like, my nose tip is way thicker on one side. It’s all just showing up over time, though. Everything is still super fresh, so maybe just hang tight for a few months. It might turn out completely fine.
Ugh, I honestly have no clue—my little fatty pad slipped a bit. It’s not super obvious or anything, but still... after everything I went through to fix that hunchback, I’d seriously lose my mind if it just popped back out. What a nightmare. Anyway, how long did it take before yours started receding? And did they actually have to break any bones for you?
Hey guys, quick question—I had my mold removed this past Thursday, and the surgery was actually the Thursday before that. My tip is still moderately swollen, I don't know... it’s still pretty numb at the top too. The bruising has mostly cleared up, just two little purple spots under my eyes left. But here's the thing: I've been working on moving the hump on my nose, and when I took the mold out, everything looked totally flat. Then, over the last two or three days, I noticed that when I look at my right profile, it looks fine, but from the left side, it’s like the hump is back. It’s not super obvious or anything, but I can see it. Technically, there's a little fatty area there where the bone was broken, but still, it's bugging me—how can the bump be back already? Is this just temporary or what? Has anyone else dealt with something like this? 😢
My doctor told me to stick strictly to saline rinses, but I might try using a Neti Pot too—can't hurt, right? It honestly feels like everything inside my nose is just swollen up, and I’m low-key terrified to touch anything... like, what if I accidentally pull a stitch or something? Does it actually feel easier to breathe once this splint comes off? How does that part even work?
Hey guys, quick question for you. I just took out my nasal tampons today, and I’ve got my splint coming out this Thursday. Just wondering about two things:
1. It feels like there are these massive scabs right inside my nostrils, super close to where the stitches are—so I'm honestly a little hesitant to mess around in there too much. What should I do? Should I try to clear them out somehow, or just wait until the splint comes out? My doctor has me using Operil spray for my nose, so
2. Are they gonna pull the stitches out, or will they just dissolve on their own? They're kind of sticking out under my nose like little whiskers, and I'm feeling pretty awkward about heading out in public looking like this :S
Just give the hospital a call and tell them you want a consultation before the surgery—it’s honestly not weird at all, and definitely nothing to feel awkward about. You have every right to know exactly what kind of procedure they're running and how it's gonna affect you down the road.
So I finally had my rib surgery yesterday with Dr. Bilić—honestly, the whole crew was amazing, from the surgeon down to the nurses on the floor. I’m actually getting discharged today, though I look a bit rough... I've got these massive purple swellings around my eyes and my eyelids are basically pitch black right now 😢 I have to go back in Sunday to get the tampons removed, and then I'll be getting the splint off sometime next week
Hey guys, I’ve got a bit of a situation. A package arrived from the UK—well, I got that notification slip this morning saying I need to pay $53 and all that. The thing is, I’m having surgery tomorrow and I’ll be stuck in bed for at least ten days, so there's no way I can make it down to the post office. I don't have any family living nearby either, so... can I just send my boyfriend with my ID to handle it? The slip mentions something about legal representatives and authorized agents, so I'm a little confused about how it works
So, I'm heading in this May for surgery with Dr. Bilic at the hospital—he’s honestly such a sweetheart, everyone says great things about him. I finally got my paperwork today with the official date, and it says the procedure is a submucosal nasal septum reconstruction. How would you say that in plain English? Like, what's the layman's version of that? And how long does recovery actually take? Since my surgery is right in the middle of my college semester, I'm trying to figure out my schedule... will I need any special gear, like nasal tampons or anything?
Hey guys—haven't had much time to dig through this whole thread yet, but I have a quick question.
I've got a septum deviation surgery scheduled with dr. Lajtman at Mercury this November. I'm wondering if the nose shape gets aesthetically fixed as part of the deal, or if I actually have to ask for that separately? Like, would I need to pay extra for the cosmetic side of things? Sorry if this was already covered somewhere else in here, but I've seen so many different stories online that I'm honestly just confused.
Can someone please—for the love of all that is holy—translate this for me? My doctor is out of town right now.
So, here’s my knee X-ray:
"On the images of the right knee, the articular surfaces are smooth and congruent. In the area of the articular surface of the medial tibial condyle, there is a narrow, regularly shaped sclerotic zone. Further evaluation via CT scan is recommended."
Angela Wright said:There’s a forum over on the "For a New Day" Association site where some folks have posted—not exactly seeing huge traffic there, though. Maybe try sending an inquiry? Might actually get someone to reach out with some real-deal firsthand experience.
A friend of mine (she's 20) just told me today that she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia two weeks ago—she’s actually starting chemo in three days. I've been digging around online, but honestly, I'm totally lost with all this medical jargon... could someone maybe explain things in plain English? Like, what are the actual chances of her pulling through this okay, and do we need to look into bone marrow donation or anything like that? Where would we even start...?
