Michael Diaz4 said:Ahem... everyone is running on Pirelli tires here. So, how exactly did he manage to jump Vettel—just by being clever with fuel and tire management? 😂

Look, if you were actually making sense, you wouldn't be talking nonsense... you're claiming a nine-lap tire offset doesn't matter—you've basically said it all. Good grief.
stormybadger8 said:So, you're telling me that Ferrari is actually significantly better than the Mercedes?
A car without KERS that's focused on fuel efficiency is 8.1 miles/h faster than the Mercedes in the speed trap—honestly, it’s terrifying to think how fast they would be if they weren't dealing with all those technical hiccups.😳

How can you be so sure that speed trap wasn't recorded before the 20th lap, or while using DRS, unlike the Mercedes?
Michael Diaz4 said:In braking and cornering speed, they aren't faster—obviously. Ferrari has the edge on the straights...

Alonso was running on nine-lap-old Pirelli tires... I’ll say it again: Pirelli
Of course he looked fast on the straights—he was nursing a chunk of debris, likely from that first-lap incident, while dealing with a DRS flap that wasn't fully sealing. That naturally kills your cornering speed. Between the dashboard warning light being lit, having to lift to save tires, and then that whole mess with the KERS battery... honestly, what are we even talking about here?
Michael Diaz4 said:Of course he can pull it off—provided there aren't any technical hiccups and the track stays wet...😉 Honestly, plenty of drivers out there are better than Fernando Alonso. Just look at how he was closing the gap through the corners in a much slower car; by the time they hit the straight, Alonso had a massive speed advantage... That kind of skill—that’s what separates the greats from the rest.

So, I guess those nine laps on dead tires and that flickering warning light on the back of the Ferrari didn't play much of a role in this, then?
Timothy Castillo6 said:Plus, he was struggling with some serious handling issues—basically a nightmare to drive—throughout the entire race. 🤣
It would have been a shame if Prstek had ended up stuck behind him, but he didn't, so that’s that. End of story. Fact.

Tires that are nine laps older
a broken rear wing
without KERS (just ERS)
Fuel saving mode

Try actually explaining with a real argument why it would be such a tragedy if he stayed behind him—or do you just specialize in nothing but provocations!?
So, Alonso started P16 and fought his way up to P6. Due to a blunder by Ferrari at the start, they failed to put the number 14 placard next to his grid slot like they usually do—yet, strangely enough, he actually got penalized for the exact same thing that Felipe Massa wasn't penalized for back in Barcelona.
He sliced through the field to take 5th place with a display of driving that—once the replays are analyzed—will be etched into the minds of anyone who truly understands this sport; that overtake on Richard was just "something else."
Two laps later, during that "battle" with Vettel, Ferrari actually considered pulling Alonso out of the race because of a rear wing issue that wouldn't fully close, combined with battery problems and excessive fuel consumption triggered by those earlier technical hiccups.
Still, despite being played by the yellow-clad establishment—who seem to be hunting for points like starving kids chasing crumbs—and dealing with all those mechanical headaches plus running 9-lap-old tires, it still took him about 10 laps to reach Maestro!!!

Honestly... it’s a disgrace. A total disgrace for Formula 1 over the last four years.
EDIT: Vettel before overtaking Alonso via DRS while cutting the corner... http://t.co/VZuzsplcwF

That was clocked on the SS right at the tail end when the track was at its absolute peak—so heaven help us all if they had tried that during any of the other sessions...
On did, however, clock an impressive time on the Softs just before that—trailing Ricciardo by a mere 0.200 on the SS—and that was even with the tires having about twenty laps on them already.

Ferrari is looking incredibly sharp right now—but we have to take that caveat into account. Kimi's lap time is essentially comparable to Vettel's, which was largely achieved later in the weekend once the track conditions improved. So, the real question remains: are we actually seeing a genuine surge in raw pace, or are we just witnessing the inevitable result of a faster, grippier track?
That turn is seriously bizarre—it’s like there’s some underlying issue with the car's balance that just isn't clicking.

It’s hard to ignore what we aren't seeing on paper—that Williams car looks absolutely blistering lately. Honestly, if they keep this up, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually find themselves rubbing elbows with the Mercedes boys during the race.😲
Massa was absolutely blistering during the race simulation—honestly, he was flying. Faster than Lewis Hamilton. i Nico Rosberg😲
The big question mark right now is how Williams is going to handle qualifying—it looks like they’re struggling to find any real pace on the SS, yet they look absolutely blistering on the Soft. Honestly, if they managed to pull off a podium for Massa, it would be a massive shock to the system.🙂

Actually, what I find truly fascinating—and I might be wrong here—is the sense that both Mercedes cars were playing it incredibly safe during FP2, almost as if they were intentionally hiding their true pace from the rest of the field.😉
There's absolutely no theory to suggest that... Mercedes looks like they’ve finally closed the gap—they're sitting right there alongside Red Bull Racing and Ferrari in FP2. Regarding top speed...
And besides that—it makes even less sense if both of them are driving Mercedes. He actually looked a lot quicker during FP1. Not even close during FP2. 😉

I haven't been following closely... what tires were Kimi and Alonso running during those fastest laps, and what was Vettel's exact time on the hard compound?

Nico and Lewis are going to collide in Turn 1 during this race and the next three.

Across all four of those races, Fernando Alonso is going to take the win.

As for Kimi Raikkonen—he'll be finishing outside the points.

I heard a joke today—apparently, Kimi is actually going to beat Alonso at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Malaysia!!!🤣
Daniel Ricciardo

“Look, we realize we’re still lagging behind on raw power—those Mercedes engines are just brutal on the straights. It’s going to be a tough uphill battle for us here compared to how things went in Los Angeles, but word from the engineers is that Ford has made some solid strides. Hopefully, we’ll have a little more grunt under the hood this weekend.”
Pedro de la Rosa

He’s forecasting that Ferrari will be 2nd best behind Mercedes—though things look incredibly tight with Williams and Red Bull.
- He mentioned that RBR has a very good chassis and Indianapolis Motor Speedway actually rewards good chassis more than top speed. Honestly, that caught me a bit off guard.
- There's a new software package in play, which—fingers crossed—will squeeze more efficiency out of the PU.
- It turns out Fernando lost 120 HP the first 3 laps due to software issue so the rumors are true. Apparently, the FIA is constantly tweaking their software and the team just got blindsided. When I pressed him on why Ferrari didn't lodge a complaint or appeal the result, he noted that they really should have double-checked everything before the race—so, in his view, the ball was in Ferrari's court, not the FIA's.
- The PU was essentially hitting its peak in Melbourne, just not in a sustained way. They might be able to run it longer in Indianapolis but much will depend on the software update.
