Starting an LLC: Where to begin? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Alexander Morgan33 said:Does your current employer allow you to own part of a business or run your own side hustle?
A friend of mine actually had to sell off his stake in a company because his new boss wouldn't allow any outside ownership.

Here’s the deal: if you plan on being the director of your own LLC, someone has to cover the payroll taxes based on a minimum executive salary. If your current job pays you at least $950 a month, you’re fine. But if your paycheck is lower than that—or if you have to register with your own firm (assuming your current boss even lets you take on side work) just to make up the difference—the IRS will come knocking to collect what they're owed from you personally.

To start things off...

So, from what I’ve managed to wrap my head around today, the easiest move for me would be setting up a sole proprietorship for my freelance stuff.

I don't see any reason why my current employer would put the brakes on this. I'm not planning on doing anything that competes with them or touches their client base. So...
It shouldn't be an issue at all.

I’m pretty much a newbie when it comes to these types of threads. I’m just sitting here mulling things over, so I really need some guidance on which sites to hit up or what specific topics I should be digging into to get my head around this...

So, here’s the deal: I currently work for a private company, but I’ve been seriously considering launching my own side hustle while keeping my current job on the side.

Under what circumstances is that actually legal? Like, can I run a sole proprietorship, an LLC, or maybe even a corporation?

What would be the path of least resistance here? I’m looking for whatever is going to be the most painless, straightforward, and—let's be honest—cheapest way to get moving...

Thanks!
Gun permit info? in Miscellaneous ·
So, how does one actually go about getting a permit for a handgun under Category B if you aren't into hunting or competitive shooting?
Apparently, there’s an option for self-defense, but you have to provide some sort of specific justification for why your safety is being threatened (???)
I mean, come on... seriously?

Has anyone here actually managed to pull that off and get a permit this way?
How to cancel a partial payment? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
George Newman20 said:Hey mods,

I’m asking you guys to please reopen the sub-thread regarding "Housing."

Thanks,

It's been five days since I sent this request and still crickets.
And get this—I actually sent requests to the moderators five weeks ago, and absolutely nothing.
Not a single word back. 🙂
👍

What, do I need to go see a local notary public to get this moving?

Hey mods,

I’m reaching out because I’d like to request that you shut down the sub-thread regarding "Housing." Honestly, it’s just not working for me.

Best regards,

Sausage Party (2016) in Movies ·
Just wanted to vent for a second... I went to AMC Theatres yesterday to catch that "comedy" Sausage Party.

I’m telling you, I have never seen a worse animated movie, let alone a worse comedy, in my entire life.

Honestly, the funniest part was how dead silent the theater was. Think about it—if you're watching a comedy and there isn't a single laugh coming from the crowd, that tells you everything you need to know about the "movie."
The vibe when everyone walked out was just as bad. People looked completely baffled or just straight-up pissed off.

Long story short? A total train wreck.

Walter Thomas18 said:By the way, there is already a thread dedicated to Thyroid issues, so you might want to post this there instead. The admins will likely move it there anyway.

I've been exactly where you are. It was literally the same thing. You didn't mention it, but I had issues whenever I drank anything—water or otherwise. I had slightly fewer problems while eating. Those two symptoms cleared up after a week or two (I can't recall the exact timing), but my voice didn't return to normal until two or three months later.
The issue occurs during surgery, specifically when they insert that breathing tube. Sometimes they’re careful, but other times they aren't as attentive, and that's when you end up with damage.

Thanks for the heads-up. I see now that there is a Thyroid thread.

And yeah, you're right about the tube. I distinctly remember being woken up and having people calling my name, feeling like I was drifting in and out of consciousness while they were pulling the tube out. Then I’d fall back asleep, wake up again, and feel them pulling it again. It felt like every time I drifted off, they were shoving it back in and then pulling it out again. Honestly, I don't know—that's just how it felt. I told my doctor, but he just brushed it off and said that wasn't the cause.
But I'm telling you, there's almost certainly something to it.

Hey everyone!!

Just wanted to drop my story here in case it helps anyone else navigating this mess. Maybe it’ll make things feel a little less heavy.

Back in month three, I noticed this swelling on my neck. Honestly? I figured it was just a swollen lymph node or something minor. But then my doctor gets spooked and sends me in for a thyroid biopsy. I had the procedure done, and they told me results would take two weeks—but wouldn't you know it, my specialist calls me back after only two days. I knew right then. Something wasn't right.
Left lobe cancer........
And just like that, everything flips upside down. Your head starts spinning with a million questions and absolutely zero answers.
My specialist tried to play it cool, telling me that if I *had* to have cancer, this was probably the best possible spot to find it. Yeah, thanks for that, doc. Real comforting stuff.
I was fast-tracked for surgery, and by month four, the whole thyroid was gone.

But here’s the kicker: when I woke up from surgery, I couldn't talk. Not literally, but my voice was this incredibly raspy, grating, painful mess. It sounded like Kalember, but ten times worse, haha.
The surgeon told me, "Don't worry, it'll pass in two or three days; your vocal cords are just irritated from the procedure." So, I sat there counting the days, waiting for relief, but nothing happened. By day five, it was time to head home, and my voice still sounded like garbage. I could barely squeeze out two or three words at a time without it hurting. But hey, I figured I’d just accept my new life as a mime. What else can you do?
By month five, I started radioactive iodine treatment. I spent five days in hospital quarantine before being cleared to go home, though they warned me—very seriously—to stay far away from kids for the next ten days.
In month six, I headed back to work. Since my job involves a ton of phone calls and meetings, I was relying heavily on my voice, and it actually started improving a bit. Still sounded like Kalember, but maybe five times better, hahaha.
Then, suddenly, in month seven, things took a turn for the better. I don't even know when it happened, but within a day or two, my voice almost completely snapped back to normal. Now, it sounds pretty much 100% like it did before all this madness. There you go.

The reason I'm posting this is because back in month four, I scoured every single forum online, and nobody seemed to be talking about this specific part (or maybe I just missed it).

If you’re staring down the barrel of this same journey, just hang in there. Stay brave.
If you start worrying about your voice afterward, just look at my experience—it turns out okay.
It took me three months to get back to baseline. Reading through some American forums, I see this happens all the time, and sometimes it can drag on for a year or even two. Those vocal cords are incredibly delicate; even a tiny bit of contact during the cleaning near the neck can throw everything out of whack.

So, that's the long and short of it. These days, it's just check-ups every six months and taking my Synthroid 125 mcg every single morning. That's it.
Really hoping it stays this way.

Art appraisals/valuations? in Classifieds ·
So, I’ve been sitting on this Ivan Rabuzin painting for nearly 20 years now—it’s a landscape, roughly 20x28 inches.
Up in the top left corner, someone scribbled "E.A" in pencil, and then over on the right, there's his signature, also in pencil: IVAN RABUZIN.
It’s already framed and under glass, too.

Back in the day, pieces like this were seriously high-ticket items, so I know it wasn't cheap when I first got it.

But here’s what’s eating at me: what does that "E.A" actually stand for? There isn't a number after it or anything. When you catch the light at just the right angle, you can really see the texture—the actual brushstrokes and layers of paint on the leaves and the houses.
Is this a genuine original, or am I just looking at something else? Honestly, I haven't a clue.
Can anyone give me a quick breakdown of what's going on here?

Also, any idea what kind of cash this could pull in these days?

Thanks in advance! !!!!!!!!!!
