Charles Patel62 said:The issue isn't whether they're shouting it or not—the problem is the blatant hypocrisy of staying silent about it until some foreign outlet like The New York Times picks up the story. That's when the frantic damage control starts, with everyone suddenly pivoting to explain how we are such a progressive, inclusive nation.
As for the heart of the matter, it would be a refreshing change of pace if we finally put an end to those hateful extremist slogans—much like we should with racial slurs—at our stadiums.
Just take a breath and cool off.
"For Homeland" is an old traditional greeting; sure, the Nationalists used it, but so what? Germans didn't change their anthem just because it was used during the era of Adolf Hitler. Italians make a killing selling wine featuring Mussolini's face and swastikas—they actually treat it as a souvenir. Even the English joke relentlessly about their military, the Nazis, and the Resistance; in their satire, they don't even depict Nazis as monsters, just as eccentric, pathetic losers with a weird obsession with women's underwear featuring swastikas.😁
Yet here we are, acting like the world is ending because people are shouting "Za dom spremni" at a stadium.
We seem terribly concerned with what outsiders think of us, much like a chambermaid who is desperately worried about whether her mistress approves.🙄
