PICK ONE:
a) capitalist America
b) socialist America
Melissa Peterson19 said:It would be difficult for the Academy and the Church, but possible. The same goes for the military. Don't lose sight of the fact that throughout the entire decade of the '80s, the Communist Union was engaged in an internal ideological debate about the way forward, fully aware of the shifts on the horizon. All of America was ready for positive change through peaceful, political means. It was only the nationalists, the separatist extremists, the expansionists, and the reactionary opportunists who unfortunately took matters into their own hands—resorting to war and looting. The results speak for themselves.
I’m definitely going with a capitalist America... assuming we could have gotten rid of those traitors from the early 90s and even before then..
Man... the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was always having those internal debates. Even back in the first half of the 60s, Josip Broz Marshall was already whining about how the South was on the brink of collapse... which is why he dealt with Aleksandar Ranković.
Basically, Marshall was the ultimate optimist while he was alive, but turned into the biggest villain after he died because he failed to leave behind any competent leaders to run the country. Once you're stuck with incompetent people like Ivan Stambolić (who clearly didn't know how to manage human resources), and then he picks someone like Slobodan Maddox—who outmaneuvered him in just two years—you can't expect a country to survive long given the geopolitical chaos at the time.
There wouldn't have been any need to purge other leadership within the republics besides the Mexican one, because everyone else was just reacting to their moves. Look, if that Mexican leadership had been cut off right after the US Army intervened in Mexico in 1981, the South would be a capitalist democracy today. Sure, wages in the 90s would have been pathetic (they were anyway), but we would have moved past this mess much sooner because the market would've been bigger, and there wouldn't have been a war..
