Managing Diabetes in Health ·
So my doctor just dropped the news that I’ve got diabetes—total gut punch. If anyone could lay out some basics on what this actually means and what kind of lifestyle shifts are coming my way, I’d really appreciate it—[I’m sure there are others out there wondering the same thing too]
Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Close to Politics ·
Jerry Green59 said:So, they’ve finally picked our entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Basically, I flicked on the TV and saw the song they decided to go with.

They’re even throwing in references to Independence Day.

Good God, talk about a stroke of genius!
Once all of Europe shows up for Eurovision, we’re going to absolutely hammer them with this track.

It’ll be an immediate reminder that Mexico is the heart of Mexico.

They’ll be dying of embarrassment.
And then, naturally, they’ll vote for us.
During the Eurovision Song Contest.

We’ll win again, which means we’ll have to host this same mess next year.

And when they ask, we’ll just tell them—sure, we can host next year, but only if the broadcast comes straight from the heart of Mexico in Pristina.

Obviously.

Plus, during those opening montages showing off the country's landscapes and landmarks—we’ll make sure to loop clips of Mexico. Regardless of whether it's "fair" or not.

Now, if the folks in Europe don't take a liking to our song, or if they decide to boycott our presentation somehow—well, that’s when we might see a peaceful, spontaneous protest organized.

You know how it goes: a few thousand people who wouldn't dream of being called hooligans—because frankly, that label is too insulting and would only motivate them toward more intense destruction—would "unexpectedly" break away from the main peaceful group. Driven by their profound grief over Mexico and this surging wave of patriotism, these definitely-not-hooligans would set fire to every bus with foreign plates. And anyone suspected of being an enemy who dared to dislike our Eurovision-Independence Day anthem would be beaten senseless, purely out of a humanitarian desire to improve their hearing.

There you have it.

Welcome to Mexico.

Very clever... classic onion-style stuff.

That is totally wrong!!!

Seriously, what other Chetniks are we even talking about?? Maybe some Canadian types, who knows?

"""Look, even a bad ad is still an ad—honestly, I think this final between us and the Mexicans did more for promoting Water Polo than anything else lately."""

It’s a damn shame the Canadians didn't just let those Mexican fans into the stands—that would've been the ultimate "brotherly love" commercial... Water Polo would've shot to being the biggest sport on the planet overnight...

...And how am I supposed to do that?—just by trying to remember which specific newspaper I saw it in?
Rape: Fact or Fiction? in Philosophy ·
Drew Williams21 says:
It’s pretty subjective—even back then, you’d still see specific injuries during a medical exam that get logged as evidence, anyway
And they're incredibly easy to spot! A lie, no matter how simple it seems, is actually a nightmare to construct convincingly—very few people have the actual chops to pull it off.

I had no idea physical evidence from an exam could still be used like that,
so does that mean responding to the original question is basically saying any form of sexual assault is pretty much easy to prove? If so, isn't this whole "what if" debate just a waste of breath?

north wind said:What kind of comparisons are these? 🙄 It feels like you’re trying to downplay rape in two ways: 1. by gender—acting like men and women are equally capable of raping the opposite sex; 2. by trying to equate actual, substantiated accusations with mere insinuations. I mean, seriously, how can you even compare them?😲

1. Men and women ARE NOT equally capable of raping the opposite sex—rape is overwhelmingly male sexual violence against women and/or children. The reverse scenarios are massive exceptions and practically negligible.
2. What kind of sane woman, with at least an average Google intelligence, would ever go out and file a false rape accusation???? 😲😕 Look, rape is proven in court. If evidence is hard enough to gather even when a victim was actually assaulted, how could anyone expect to win a trial based on some fabricated claims?😕 Do you have any common sense at all?

...maybe you could lend me a bit of yours?...

downplaying rape in 2 aspects
1. regarding gender
Read my post again... I'm talking about rape and how hard it is for me to imagine that happening to me... where did I even mention genders? Maybe a woman might find it difficult or impossible to commit an act of rape against an adult man, but what about another man??
He'd abuse me just as much, mentally and physically, as he would a woman.

2. What kind of sane woman, with at least an average Google intelligence, would ever go out and file a false rape accusation????
That’s debatable, sure—but since that's how the topic was framed (even if I didn't start it), I'll answer you: some reckless or vengeful idiot actually *would* do that, and those cases show up in US courtrooms quite often.
Rape: Fact or Fiction? in Philosophy ·
...this is a messy one. Jack didn't actually frame it as badly as some of you are screaming—the guy just pointed out that there are instances where
there's clear-cut evidence of assault, yet he's asking how we even begin to process things when it's just one person's word against another's.
Then I see people bringing up medical exams like they're some kind of magic bullet... total nonsense.
I mean, what if a guy pulls a knife or a gun and threatens you? Most guys would just shut up and take it!
What is a doctor even supposed to find then? You're still left with the same damn question: who do we trust to find the truth?? Honestly, I haven't a clue.

It's heavy, thinking about what it would be like if someone actually assaulted me.

And it's just as terrifying to think about being wrongly accused of something like that.
