Patrick Martin said:Look, my whole point is that there's zero chance some massive hunk of junk like that could be tearing up Washington D.C. today.
I mean, come on, Americans basically have a damn space-age missile shield at this point, yet we’re supposed to believe some flying cargo truck—something that would've been a big deal back in the Vietnam era—can just cruise around the White House for half an hour? Give me a break.

Really?

The NASAMS is actually based on the ground-launched version of the AIM-120 AMRAAM BVR missiles using active radar guidance, which is pretty much the standard air-to-air ordnance for 34 miles ranges. They're part of the White House defense perimeter, where flares would be totally useless against active radar tracking. I read somewhere that those missiles have a nearly 100% hit rate. Like I said a few posts ago, it's just dumb that the movie showed a single launcher with four heat seeking missiles when they could've made a way more believable scenario with just a quick Google search, right?

Personally, I think this is top-tier stuff.☕

Your point is...?
this is top tier☕

Great.

Patrick Martin said:Man, I don't know... how else are they supposed to actually see that absolute beast of a weapon?
Wait, what was that thing called again? Oh, right—the SPECTRE gunship. 🙏

🤦

You know, that whole staged, "fake" helicopter crash where they claim all those terrorists were wiped out? Total setup. It’s just like every other orchestrated mess you see on the news. 🤦

Man, that CGI sequence where they wreck the tip of the Washington Monument? Absolute madness. Seriously, watching those digital pixels tear through one of the most iconic landmarks in D.C. just hits different when it's done that well. It’s like, you’re sitting there, totally relaxed, and then—boom—digital destruction right in your face. It’s pure spectacle, honestly. Total chaos.

So, you've got all these heavy sighs echoing through the halls of the Pentagon—or wherever the hell they set up that command center this time around. 🤦

Man, these little guys just don't stand a chance. It’s honestly pathetic watching them go down like that. Like, seriously, what are we even doing here? They're basically walking targets at this point. It's just a total wash. ☕

The Lockheed AC-130. Absolute beast.Listen, you big bad madafaka, the armament really depends on the specific variant. We're talking GAU-12 Gatlings, 40mm cannons, 105mm howitzers... all mounted on the left side of the aircraft. AFAIK, there isn't a single one out there with four Gatlings on both sides.

They aren't dying in this mess. ☕

There are more candidates in the mix. The offer isn't actually that bad. 😁

Eric Patel7 said:Watched it last night. It’s your typical piece of American patriotic propaganda—though I will say, that part where they drag the old lady across the floor and she swears by her flag? That was honestly peak cinema.
Because, apparently, it’s perfectly logical for a person in that moment to care solely about loyalty to the country rather than, I don't know, their OWN DAMN FAMILY.

There are a few decent action sequences in there. I dig how Gerard Butler handles himself against the bad guys, but the whole way the Koreans attacked Washington, D.C., and seized the White House is just... poorly written.

I can even look past the suicide bombers, the commandos, and the machine guns mounted on garbage trucks.

But how an unidentified aircraft could just end up cruising right through the middle of Washington, D.C.—which should logically be the most heavily guarded city in the USA—is something I just don't fucking get.

How does the White House only have one SAM system with four heat seeking missiles? How do they just park F-22 Raptors next to a Hercules just so it can get shredded? How did anyone even get close to a SPECTRE gunship? How did they install gatling guns on both sides of the plane? And how do they have zero clue who's actually in charge of the South Korean president's security? Or how a terrorist suddenly becomes the head of security for the South Korean president? They built that whole Cerberus setup without any basic protocols to stop abuse, and suddenly launch ramps can't be disconnected from the system—even though being able to act independently when comms go down is literally the whole point. The list goes on and on. 😍

Hebiga, grab some popcorn, turn your brain off, don't expect much, and just laugh at the stupidity. That's it.

Patrick Martin said:Man, seriously, it’s the same old story here—a massive pile of nonsense being defended just because there's some "action" and shooting happening, goddammit. Meanwhile, over in Prometheus, actual good stuff gets tossed out the window over some tiny, trivial details, and we're talking about a freaking fantasy monster flick.

Give me a break 🙄

For real though, I actually started thinking the director was low-key trolling Americans on purpose, like he was being all sneaky and clever about mocking us.

The best way to put this movie is that you can kill two hours—or whatever the runtime is—if you don't expect much. Just brace yourself for your standard dose of American cheesiness, grab some popcorn, and you're set. It’s no masterpiece, but it’s watchable enough.

Honestly, when I see the kinds of arguments people pull out just to justify this shameless exploitation, I feel like my head is actually going to explode. 😢

Just so we’re clear here—even Training Day (which should be, like, the absolute pinnacle of fucking cinema) is a total waste of time to me. I seriously don't get what everyone is raving about, or why Denzel even snagged an Oscar for that role. 🤷
It’s the same deal with Departed; I honestly can't recall a single fucking frame from either of those movies.

And really, now that I've already laid out my thoughts on the greatest fucking movie ever made, do I even need to bother giving an opinion on this latest disaster?

Better if I don't...

My dear Patrick Martin, I feel the exact same way when I read your posts on those other epic threads.

Patriotism, loyalty to the President, the Constitution, blah blah—it’s all there. There’s some seriously stupid stuff in there, but I didn't exactly expect WHB to build an entirely new universe from scratch. 😍

Based on all the hype and those quick previews, I was fully expecting this movie to be a total train wreck. My bad. It’s actually a solid action flick with just enough cheesy American sentimentality and clichés to keep things interesting. Don't go in expecting a masterpiece, but grab some popcorn and you'll have a good time.

slybison8 said:As I mentioned before, I am somewhat concerned about how such threats might affect the discussion itself, specifically regarding whether every argument presented gets an equal opportunity to be heard.

I don't really know if the person making the threat will actually follow through with it or not—and honestly, I guess it doesn't really concern me personally.

Perhaps they will file the report, or perhaps they are just trying to act important and intimidate their interlocutor with the threat of a report to force them to withdraw from the conversation.

From my perspective as a moderator, that particular aspect is what seems problematic.

Regarding compliance with the Law of the United States, I feel that moderators should be the ones ensuring discussions respect American laws, which is why our posting rules state that non-compliant posts should be reported to us. This doesn't rule out the possibility of something being reported outside of the Forum, but I believe that such actions shouldn't necessarily be broadcasted within the discussion.

Otherwise, the issue I am addressing here and what actually occurred with hiddenlynx66's alleged report are not quite the same thing.

hiddenlynx66 shared the content of the post with private individuals who he believes were harmed. I don't have an issue with that, although I suppose it could have been handled in a slightly calmer or more appropriate manner—but then again, it wouldn't be the hiddenlynx66 we know. 🙂

So, he wasn't reporting this to the Police or the Department of Justice, but rather to the people being discussed in the thread. One can only hope that those individuals won't immediately rush to the Police like litigious busybodies, and instead, they might first join the Reddit community to share their side of the story.

Honestly, I think calling the cops or demanding a ban is way over the top in both cases (I mean, we're on a forum, for crying out loud! 😁), but people need to realize they can go too far by throwing around baseless accusations that could actually get them in legal trouble.

Amanda Hughes37 said:Look, let’s be real—we say a lot of things on Reddit with an air of absolute certainty... even when we shouldn't.
It’ll just slip away...
Just look at all those heavy insults being thrown at politicians—and don't even try telling me we didn't call them thieves long before they were even facing indictment...

That’s all true, but we're talking about accountability here. Does someone have the right to sue over something said about them on a forum if they claim their rights were violated? Yes. Does someone have the right to report a post on a forum? Of course. And it’s also the moderator's right to step in if they think it's messing up the discussion. Even The Destroyer's buddy has the right to complain if he doesn't like a report and wants action taken, though I'm pretty skeptical that anyone will actually listen to him.

Bottom line: stop throwing around accusations and claims you can't back up.

James Patel20 said:Laws are such a flexible category, aren't they... especially lately...

The simple fact that legal mechanisms exist for prosecution, yet there aren't really any legal mechanisms for protection, speaks volumes about the kind of society we find ourselves living in today...

If our colleague James Patel20 is worried that someone might hack his account and expose him to potential liability, then I’ll offer some well-meaning advice: maybe take a stroll through one of the IT subreddits where he could learn a bit more about how all this works...

I was speaking in general terms, not just regarding this specific subreddit, and believe me when I say I have quite enough technical knowledge to know exactly what I'm talking about... and actually, someone has already stepped forward here who experienced the very issue I mentioned as a possibility...

As I said, it's a massive, sprawling topic, so we really ought to focus on what is actually within our control, which is banning users who resort to threats of reporting others...

A community doesn't need self-appointed moderators, and it certainly doesn't need people acting like the police...

I think you're wrong, and honestly, you said enough for me to be pretty damn sure about that.
And just like that, someone actually pipes up here with the exact same issue I was just pointing out.

I don't know all the specifics here, but I know enough to know exactly how to track down whoever wrote that trash. Between my background in law enforcement and my experience in IT, finding them will be easy.
Like I said, this topic is way too huge to tackle all at once. We need to focus on what we can actually control: banning the users who try to weaponize reports as threats.

If I think someone broke some American law, I have every right to report them. Same goes for calling them out here on Reddit. It’s the Moderator's job to step in if they think the discussion is getting out of hand, and it's your right to complain about whatever you want.
Reddit doesn't need self-appointed moderators, and I certainly don't need some wannabe cops breathing down my neck.

Look, this is a forum. People debate here. If you don't have the balls for that, go find somewhere else.

Arthur Flores2 said:It really is an analysis. It's an opinion based on an impression. And honestly, your accusation that I slandered them by making that claim is actually your own slander against me, which I could pretty much sue you for!!!

Let's look at the post in question...

http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=4...postcount=2661

As you can see, I start my post with the sentence "I can't help but feel like what I saw was a paid segment"...

Everything I'm saying is still framed as my own opinion...

So, according to you, I'm not even allowed to express how a protest looks to me just because I don't have hard evidence?

That is such absolute nonsense, probably born out of frustration because your side—the one claiming to act for the greater good—can't even manage a basic gathering in downtown Washington, D.C., without police oversight!!!

.

Yeah, it starts out like that, and then it ends up exactly like this:

Police everywhere around Times Square. Paid protests. Paid coverage. Total scam. A protest with zero protesters? It’s just five or six organizers standing there by themselves. Then you've got this reporter claiming, "If it hadn't started snowing, we would've filled up Times Square"... meanwhile, it's barely even snowing. Give me a break.

So, do you actually have proof that the segment was paid for? Or are you just assuming?

slybison8 said:This has happened before... I think I was even threatened with a report to the Federal Communications Commission prior to this Law being passed 🙂

Personally, I tend to view incidents like these as a severe form of trolling, so I usually assign them somewhere between 50 and 100 penalty points.

I suppose someone who wants to report an individual has every right to do so without making a public spectacle of it, because by doing so, they are essentially attempting to unfairly force their perspective onto the discussion and undermining the work of the Moderators and Reddit Administrators

In principle, I would likely support any initiative aimed at standardizing how we handle such infractions across the whole of Reddit

The rules are set up so a Moderator can always use their own judgment to sanction whatever they deem necessary, but I don't see why anyone needs to hide their intent to report someone, especially since we're all warned to follow American law.

And if James Patel20 is worried that someone might hack his account and leave him vulnerable to legal trouble, I'd honestly suggest he spends some time in one of the IT subreddits to learn how to secure himself properly.

God, I was right all along. You guys basically admitted you're ready to grab guns and go at it... 😲 🙏

Yeah, true. Just like how about three years ago you predicted there'd be massive persecutions of Catholics across Europe.

If I were Catholic, I’d nominate you for priest duty. Right this second.

By using phallometric test sensitivities to figure out the percentage of actual pedophiles within different groups of child sex offenders—and factoring in the average number of victims per group— the math puts the ratio of heterosexual to homosexual pedophiles at roughly 11:1. Basically, this implies that the proportion of true pedophiles is higher among those with homosexual erotic development than among those who develop heterosexually. Mind you, this doesn't mean that androphilic males are more likely to offend against children.

That’s some playground logic right there. Just like how—and I doubt anyone here would be brave enough to point this out—the fact that there are way more pedophiles and child abusers among Catholics than any other organized group doesn't mean being Catholic causes pedophilia.

Total waste of time. You can try to deconstruct Bastin's posts word by word all you want, but it's useless. These people have "crusade" stuck in their heads; logic just doesn't exist for them.

You could draw a parallel with... Gerald BullThe artillery expert who was leading the Iraqis. Project Babylon. And by the way, they cobbled together that NORA 155mm howitzer back in America and then paraded it around like it was some kind of national miracle. Local experts at work.He gets a warning to back off, then turns up dead with extra bullets in his skull. Probably a CIA hit.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Saad was actually working for Iran all along—probably some kind of CIA asset.
Noah Grant59 said:The ultimate accountability for this betrayal lies with Stjepan Mason, whose actions led to generals Ante Gotovina and Branimir Markač being sent to The Hague, along with the leaking of top-secret state documents.

Furthermore, Ivo Sanders and his crew must answer for betraying strategic American interests for their own personal gain.

And this current administration could also be held responsible for treason if they decide to drop the charges against Mexico regarding the aggression and genocide.

Whether the European Union exists or not doesn't change that.

So, who is actually going to file the charges against these people, and when?

Because talking big is one thing, but we aren't seeing any actual legal action being taken.

electricorca112 said:But why on earth would the Church be required to report them to secular authorities?

Where exactly does it say they have to do that?

Think about it—why would any employer be obligated to report their employees (for any kind of misconduct, not just pedophilia) based solely on some letters or accusations?

And who do you think should be the one reporting pedophilia to the police, if not the victims themselves (or their parents, since we're talking about minors)?

What exactly are you asking there?

Or, let me rephrase:

What part of "every person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law" is confusing to you? 🤷

It's right there in the U.S. federal criminal code:

Failure to report a crime

Section 300.

(1) Anyone who knows a felony has been committed and fails to report it—even though reporting it would make finding the crime or the perpetrator much easier—when that crime carries a mandatory long-term prison sentence,

will face a fine or up to three years in prison.

Every individual, regardless of family ties, is legally obligated to report a crime once they become aware of it.
