Plus, if you add up all the ports on the eastern side of the Mediterranean, they're almost insignificant globally. If I were a Chinese shipper sending goods to this part of the world, I probably wouldn't even bother messing around with anything outside of Rotterdam or Antwerp.☕

I disagree. Sure, things look bad right now, but that doesn't mean they can't change.

Who's voting for Electa? in Close to Politics ·
"Quote:"
jadeseal4 said:The individuals conducting this survey introduced themselves as representatives from the Electa association.
When I inquired about who was actually funding or commissioning their research, they provided nothing but vague, noncommittal answers, eventually just claiming it was for the association itself.
Furthermore, when I asked who serves as the chairperson, the young activist—who appeared quite junior by the sound of her voice—seemed completely caught off guard and bewildered.
They began asking their questions, but after the second one, I found the whole interaction increasingly suspicious; the questions felt less like neutral inquiries and more like scripted reminders of the Democratic Party’s platform and their specific political agenda. It even reached a point where they were attempting to falsely imply that such questions could be posed during a program presentation.
When I brought up concerns regarding how they were limiting participation and selecting visitors due to space constraints at these presentations,🙄 I was met once again with total confusion from their side.
Regardless of the specifics, I find myself wondering: is it ethically acceptable for an association to mislead respondents in this manner, essentially disguising a push for a specific political faction—in this instance, the Democratic Party—as objective research?
Does anyone here happen to have more information regarding this particular organization?

googlati: Joe Biden confirmed that the Democratic Party is backing the newly formed Electa association, which filed for the highest number of poll watchers with the Federal Election Commission. "The Democratic Party is behind this—there's no secret here and nothing to hide. These are poll watchers, not voters, and everything is completely legal," he emphasized. Check this link.
Honestly, I thought it was just some kind of joke, but after digging around on Google, it looks like it's actually happening.

So, what’s the political fallout? For them, if they start tapping those resources, it basically means they can finally go on an unlimited shopping spree for weapons. As for us over here... probably nothing at all.
Operation Pedophilia in Close to Politics ·
mistyjackal14 said:If I’ve somehow missed the mark here, please, do correct me, because I am more than willing to admit when I've made a mistake.
I honestly can’t recall a single instance where the Catholic Church actually stepped up to report one of its own—priests or otherwise—to the authorities for any kind of criminal offense. Are we really supposed to believe that within the halls of the Church there aren't thieves, murderers, rapists, or perjurers, and that the only issue anyone ever talks about is pedophilia? It seems a bit much to suggest that such a wide array of sins simply doesn't exist within those institutions, doesn't it?

There really is a difference, isn't there?

I never really saw the connection before, and honestly, I still struggle to see how one isolated incident can be used to represent the massive, systemic issue of pedophilia on a global scale. Does one single case truly reflect the broader reality?

It really feels like a given at this point, doesn't it, when you're already working with something as simplified as that? Is there anything more profound than the pursuit of what is truly righteous? I often find myself wandering through these thoughts, wondering if we can ever truly grasp the weight of being a good person in such a complicated world. It feels like we are all just drifting, searching for that moral compass that points true north, isn't it? Sometimes I think about how much effort it takes to maintain integrity when the path of least resistance is always right there, tempting us to take the easy way out. But then again, what is life without those quiet moments of choosing the harder, more honorable road? Is righteousness an inherent quality we are born with, or is it something we have to build, brick by brick, through every small decision we make? It’s a heavy thing to contemplate, really, but I find myself returning to it constantly. It seems like that typical kind of anger, the sort you see all too often with people who just can't handle anything a bit more profound, so they get defensive when someone actually tries to look beneath the surface. Is it really so hard for some folks to grasp a deeper perspective without feeling personally attacked?

Just so you have this for yourself:
It makes me wonder, does anyone else feel this profound sense of revulsion toward those individuals who hide behind children—and worse, exploit children—just to push their own shallow, low-level political agendas? It’s a level of manipulation that feels so fundamentally hollow, so devoid of actual substance, that I find myself struggling to even view them as fellow human beings. Is there any greater betrayal of innocence than using a child as a shield for petty, everyday partisan interests?
Does anyone else ever get that sudden, unsettling feeling where you look at someone and just see this dark, twisted potential, like they’re the kind of person who would go out of their way to open an orphanage just to have a front-row seat to abuse children? It’s such a heavy, disturbing thought to carry around, isn't it? I can't quite shake the sense that some people possess this terrifying capacity to build entire institutions under the guise of charity, all while harboring intentions that are nothing short of predatory. It makes you wonder about the masks people wear and how easily a monster can hide behind a facade of compassion.

Let’s be clear about where we stand here, because I really don't want there to be any misunderstanding between us. Like I mentioned before, I'm not actually putting you in that specific category; if I had to describe you, I'd say you're more like a typical consumer—someone who just goes along with the flow and takes what's offered—rather than one of those people I was talking about. It isn't meant to be an insult, mind you, because I don't think you're a bad person at all.

Here is my take on the relationship between the Church and pedophilia:
Is it possible that while the Catholic Church views pedophilia as one of its most devastating crises, they aren't actually the primary drivers behind the issue itself? I find myself wondering if we are looking at the situation through too narrow a lens, focusing so intently on the institution that we miss the broader societal currents at play. Could it be that the Church is simply caught in a storm that was already brewing in the world around it, rather than being the sole architect of the tragedy? It’s a heavy thought to sit with, isn't it, to consider whether an organization can be both deeply wounded by a problem and simultaneously disconnected from its fundamental origins?
I’m hoping I don't really need to go into any further detail or explain myself, because I suspect the core of the matter is already quite clear to everyone here, isn't it?

And honestly, it makes me wonder... how much can one person truly hold in balance? As much as I respect the Catholic Church, and as much as I genuinely believe it serves as a beacon of hope for this world, there is a heavy, quiet truth that sits at the back of my mind. If I were ever faced with the impossible choice—if I had to decide whether to preserve that light or to burn it all down just to ensure that children were finally safe from the horrors of pedophilia and every other kind of abuse—would I hesitate? Could I really look at those innocent lives and choose an institution over them? Even if I believe in its goodness, if destroying the Church was the only way to save our children from such darkness, would I be the one to strike the match tomorrow?

A crime is a crime. Period.

I didn't think it mattered then, and I still don't see how one single case has anything to do with the global issue of pedophilia.

Since this is just one case out of many, you probably could have done something about it.

It’s pretty obvious when you're already dealing with a massive simplification like this. righteous Anger—classic ruling class behavior. They can't handle anyone looking a little deeper than the surface.

Your mindset is just typical flock behavior, following whatever those "virtuous" shepherds tell you to do.

Just for you:
People who hide behind children—especially abused children—just to push their cheap, petty political agendas? Honestly, they disgust me so much I don't even consider them human.
Feels like I’m talking to someone who would open up an orphanage just to have a place to abuse kids.

Total nonsense. If you haven't bothered to look into this yet, let me make it clear: we're talking about adults now who were abused as children by a man the current Pope protected.

Here’s my take on the Church and pedophilia:
Pedophilia is a massive issue for the Church, but when it comes to the actual problem of pedophilia, the Church isn't playing much of a role.
I hope I don't have to explain myself.

Game on, then. If even the Pope himself is tangled up in this mess—and we’re talking about the Church in America and a former bishop who’s now some esteemed cardinal—then there's really nothing left to talk about.

feralpilot0 said:First off, in my specific example, I linked my own stance and the thread regarding the worst biblical quotes—which you can see below—just to clarify why all that "offtopic" talk, trolling, and everything else mentioned in the justification for those two users' bans actually happened. The topic itself was highly controversial given its core purpose:

However, quite a few posts have been deleted now 😁, so linking back to them doesn't even make sense anymore; it's only useful to see how the discussion originally unfolded.
I've already said what I wanted to say about that, so I'm not in the mood to repeat myself. Basically, you still haven't explained why you were so triggered by an attempt to "expose" biblical evils, or why that interest resulted in so many bans—even against those simply trying to protect the Bible from being mocked or misunderstood...?

Especially considering the recent ban of Radeta with 500 points—honestly, it leaves some lingering doubt about how frequent these bans are and whether they're even justified.
If anyone has unresolved questions, disputes, or even conflicts, let's not settle them through posts or threats of bans. It creates a massive sense of instability here on Religion—who decides what's offtopic, what's trolling, etc.—while the users being moderated have zero tools to challenge a moderator, who is, of course, always in the privileged position.

Ultimately, you can either accept criticism or reject it, but everything said to you—at least from my side—is said with the best intentions for everyone's sake. The goal is to avoid rebellions, unnecessary dissatisfaction, and the subjectivity inherent in one's own judgment.

If someone feels wronged, they should feel free to speak up; they shouldn't have to retreat from the forum just because they don't like the atmosphere here.

Of course, all of this should be done with moderation, respect for the rules, and mutual consideration.

That's all. Nothing more, nothing less. 🙂

ruggedeagle10 said:Listen, you troll and provocateur lurking around the Religion section—you're exactly one of those types I mentioned earlier, the kind I’d personally see fit to deal with via an immediate, permanent ban so you could never touch that PDF again!

If the moderation on the PDF was truly "not ideal," as you claim, "not ideal" I would be the first person demanding ten gold medals for that PDF, its moderators, and this entire forum, nominating us as the premier medium for exchanging ideas. In fact, I’d demand that our two famous, legendary moderators be given total autonomy over the entire site, not just the Religion section, because they manage one of the most challenging PDFs with such ease and success that they might as well be declared life-long admins and untouchable kings of this forum!

Is that clear enough for you?

Not only are you trolling and stirring up trouble in the Religion section, but you actually have the audacity to be the first one to jump on this thread—again—after I have stated more times than I can count that I DO NOT WANT any debates, especially not the kind filled with your fake, deceptive, and trolling statements!

I've had enough of this nonsense. I responded once to rowdyhawk10's post, and that was that!

THEREFORE, THERE WILL BE NO DEBATE ON THIS THREAD. ALL I WANT IS FOR PEOPLE TO VOTE IN THE SURVEYMONKEY POLL AND THEN HAVE THE AUTHORITIES TAKE ACTION... PERIOD. FULL STOP.

ADMINS, SORT THIS OUT!

I didn't realize you were talking about me, but if you were, then I'm humbly honored to have earned your attention.

Anyway, I think the previous post is enough proof that rowdyhawk10 described the situation regarding the Religion PDF perfectly.

rowdyhawk10 said:I don't really feel like quoting everything anymore. It all just feels like one big mess of trolling and spam. Instead of just rambling about vague nebulas, maybe it would be better to actually consider what exactly it is that causes Nicole James and me to see eye to eye. 🙂

It seems like a few of you want to ensure that nobody can challenge your views, essentially trying to turn this Religion forum into your own little clerical echo chamber where Christianity and Christians become untouchable sacred cows.

Nobody is actually stopping you Christians from sharing your views.

So, what you're saying is essentially one massive lie. The only things being restricted (for ALL MEMBERS) are trolling, spamming, and personal insults... and that applies to you as well. When Walnut (a Christian, right?) stepped up as a moderator, we all gave him a warm welcome. As for why you feel threatened by certain fair and rational dogmas—things like the God-man concept or redemption on the Holy Cross—and therefore want to find ways to suppress them, well, that’s entirely on you. People need to be able to express their views, even if those views happen to rub you the wrong way. It's just like how you express your own opinions without anyone stepping in to stop you.

Does anyone actually have an issue with people expressing their religious views? I don't think so. 🤷

So, gentlemen, I suppose it might be wise to get used to enduring different perspectives with a bit more dignity.

Get used to this: Religion isn't a Christian forum, nor does it belong to anyone else. It’s an open forum where anyone can express their views, provided they don't run afoul of the site rules. You can find the forum rules here: Rules of conduct for the Religion subforum.

The moderation on the Religion PDF isn't perfect. I've even taken a couple of bans myself for reasons I think were pretty flimsy, but looking at the current protests, this is a very accurate description of the situation.

Look, managing the Religion PDF isn't perfect—I’ve had my own gripes about it too—but you can't really call it censorship. Most of what's being said in the posts above is just a highly subjective take on how things are running here.

I'm skipping the SurveyMonkey because none of these options actually hit the mark for me. All I'll say is that the state of this PDF is far from ideal, and I disagree with most of the points made above, though they're way too long to dissect one by one.

Joshua Brown7 said:I dare you. Ask that question and see how fast you get banned... but hey, you already know how this works, right?!

The discussion was about the nature of Muhammad's marriage to Aisha... and it went on for a while, with some pretty harsh undertones directed at the guy leading the debate, so your logic doesn't hold up here.

He is God to hundreds of millions of people, get it? So questioning the "mental health" of the one we believe to be God and the Son of God is the most offensive thing you could possibly say to a believer!

And what about the people for whom Jesus isn't God or the Son of God—can they not discuss Him? Get real, this is an open forum.

You're wrong. $100 It's only tax-free if you're carrying it across the border in your own hands. Doesn't apply to mail. I know this firsthand because my package from FedEx got hit with customs fees. $75 It all comes down to the total value including shipping. Honestly, it’s just a complete toss-up based on whatever mood the customs agent at the post office happens to be in that day.
northernhound2 said:If what you're saying is actually true, then the state of our government agencies is just pathetic.

It’s all about the empty state coffers that they desperately need to fill... and having Suker sitting on a pile of cash doesn't exactly help the budget. ☕

Not long ago, I was heading over to the FedEx office to pick up a package and saw them opening this tiny little box containing nothing special—just a guy's belt—and they slapped a massive customs fee on it. Then, for a laptop battery that arrived in the mail, $75 they hit me with $28 ridiculous duties and taxes. The treasury is bone dry, plain and simple.
