Altered Carbon starts off strong, but then it just kind of loses steam

COVID-19 is going to hit them hard. Once things settle down, they'll be using it as an excuse for years to justify how bad everything is left to rot.

I’m telling you, if this doesn't turn out even worse than the 2008 crash, I don't know what will. Businesses will fold, prices will skyrocket, and utility bills are going to hit the roof. Now they're just going to start printing more money to patch up budget holes, leaving future generations buried in debt up to their necks.

urbanhawk17 said:Hey, regarding the testing situation and this whole marriage thing that's lasted 70 years...

So, if you have mild symptoms, they basically just send you home, if I understood that correctly.

But now, say you actually go to get tested, show up with symptoms, and they tell you you're positive... what then? You're stuck at home for maybe 30 days until you can produce two negative tests. You risk $2.75 fines if you get caught outside, and you might lose your job too.

On the other hand, you could just stay home for a few days and nobody would ever know if the symptoms are light enough. You'd be out of isolation way sooner than those people who were actually exposed and forced into quarantine.

Honestly, why would anyone even bother getting tested unless they were panicking or feeling seriously ill? 🤷

At the end of the day, maybe the symptoms are just so minor that you don't even believe you're sick. A little sniffle here, a cough there, and so what? 🤷

Yeah, I saw some stats yesterday showing we only have 29 people hospitalized with moderate to severe symptoms.

The number of recoveries is climbing fast. Yesterday morning we were sitting at just 5, but today we’re already up to 22. That means we had 17 people cleared in just 24 hours. Honestly, that number is going to keep shooting up over the next few days.

Paul Martinez73 said:You realize they covered up the first cases and then just tried to manage the fallout, right? I don't trust a single thing this regime says, and look at what happened in Hong Kong... You know they suddenly reported 15,000 cases in a single city in one day, as if by pure coincidence, right when the pressure mounted and they realized a massive scandal was brewing...

That was right at the start. Everyone acts like that. You really think Americans wouldn't have tried to sweep things under the rug? lol. Nothing has changed compared to how old regimes used to operate. Everyone tries to hide it at first, and then once the truth leaks out, they finally get to work.

Now everything about them is out in the open. There’s zero point in hiding anything anymore. They could have silenced a handful of doctors at the beginning, but now the whole world—and the government—knows everything.

I wouldn't go as far as saying the Chinese Communist Party would mess around like that and try to cover up something this massive. You're acting like Donald Trump here; the Chinese are just playing games and lying. 🤣

Damn, you're killing the coffee! You got any toilet paper?

Don't go coming at the coffee like that. It’s gonna mess with your stomach every single time, and then you'll burn through your supplies way too fast.

Paul Martinez73 said:I didn't say that. I just meant that the whole "Just let us live our lives and work, who cares if people die, it's just the flu" attitude doesn't really hold water.
Especially while the virus is still in its early stages and nobody has any clue what happens next.

A buddy of mine calls me today acting like, "Oh, the weather is warming up, this will all blow over." He’s already prepping his vacation rentals, talking about how it'll be a crazy season with everyone showing up like walk-ins. I told him, man, you're being a massive optimist—that sounds like pure conspiracy talk. We got locked down because a few people died, and now he thinks it'll just vanish once it gets warm. When I asked him how he could be so sure, he was like, "Look, every flu disappears when the heat hits; even if winter was mild, it didn't stop the viruses, so this will disappear just like any other flu."

The guy has clearly done his math; he's convinced it'll just melt away with the sun, and nothing can stop that...

I wasn't saying we're all going extinct, I'm just seeing the logic behind everything they're doing. And honestly, it makes perfect sense to me. I'm not out here fighting politicians by claiming they're "building a police state," or that "they'll track us through our phones," or "we won't be allowed to go anywhere"... because, hey, they can't actually do much of that. Every app on your phone tracks where you go and what you do if the government wants to know. You have IDs; they know exactly who you are and where you are. You've got a smartphone in your pocket, yet some people act like they're rebels against the system (not me, obviously, but there are plenty of them around).

To me, it's logical to lock everyone down for a couple of weeks to try and suppress the spread, buying time to reorganize and figure out the next move. It keeps everyone from flooding the hospitals all at once, gives the infected staff time to recover, and lets them make strategic moves—maybe in two or three weeks, we'll actually know more about this virus.

I don't think like that at all, but honestly, this constant jumping to extremes and acting like the world is ending is getting to be a little too much.

Just play it safe. Wash your hands, use sanitizer, stay out of crowds, and avoid big gatherings. We'll get through this virus eventually. Of course there will be idiots; there always have been. You’ve got those people tanning in the sun, wandering through parks, or riding their bikes around like they're on summer vacation...

China hasn't had a single domestic case in almost a week. In a country of over a billion people, only 3,000 have died. So, what are we even talking about?

Look, if you ask me, we’ve got barely any life left to live. We're just going to spend what's remaining stuck at home. The world is heading straight for a total collapse—wars and crises with absolutely no turning back.

Weak immunity, totally burnt out 🤷

Between eating junk and counting calories, being underweight, dieting, partying too hard, or maybe even some recreational drugs here and there—look, it’s not like every young person is in peak physical condition.

I walked into my local corner store this morning, and there’s this guy—he’s actually on great terms with the owner—who spends his time scavenging through dumpsters around the neighborhood. He’s out there collecting bottles and scrap metal, then he just strolls right into the shop, buzzing around, sorting through produce from the carts and picking up rotten lettuce leaves.

Since he’s buddies with the owner, the guy even gets handed wooden crates left over from deliveries, which he then resells later. Forget all those safety protocols, forget the employees wearing masks and gloves; you've got a dude rummaging through trash cans in muddy shoes wandering all over the store.

I lost it. I looked at the manager, and he just gave me this blank, stupid stare. I spent an hour and a half trying to get anyone on the phone to report what I saw, but honestly, I am never stepping foot in that store again. I called the labor inspectors, the health department, 911, the Department of Labor, the Department of Health, the crisis management center—everyone just keeps passing the buck to someone else.

God, everything is just getting worse and worse...

I don't even feel them. Just yesterday afternoon, I heard a faint thud for maybe a second or two. That was it.

🤷.

I honestly only know there was a tremor when I see people talking about it online.

Some cynical people might try to claim they’re ditching them just because there’s a shortage, thinking it’s a way to dodge public backlash against the government structures that demand huge sacrifices from everyday Americans while failing to provide even the most basic necessities. But honestly, those people are just being bitter.

The local politicians and Unknown are having these intense one-on-one chats, standing just two meters apart with their masks on. Total idiots.

When the earthquake hit on Sunday morning, the President and the Secretary of Health were at the press conference repeatedly telling everyone to maintain distance and wear masks. Five minutes later, a group of about 30 people is walking through the city together. The President has his mask pulled down under his chin, the Mayor isn't wearing one at all, and the Secretary of Health just has it over his mouth with his nose sticking right out.

It's a total comedy 🤣

I actually heard the President tell a reporter, "Watch your distance," while the Mayor was standing less than 50 cm away, picking his nose.

They even went into an old church later where the local priest was showing them some ruins, and the President is just wiping his nose with his bare hands. 🤣

I’m barely even checking the news sites today. I just take a quick glance at the essentials to see what's going on, and then I get out of there. Honestly, the media has proven themselves to be absolute trash, though it’s not like we didn't already know that.

I’m heading into work and cutting through downtown, passing by Broadway, Madison Avenue, and the Square, and honestly? It feels like we’re in a war zone. There are military trucks everywhere, construction equipment, barricades, and piles of police tape blocking the way. Most of the debris has already been cleared out, though. It looks like they were working hard all day yesterday and through the night. Huge respect to the National Guard for getting this done so fast.

Scammers.

The idiots on TV today kept insisting that the EPICENTER was 6.2 miles underground. These so-called experts love to act like they're geniuses, but they can't even tell the difference between an epicenter and a hypocenter. Basic stuff!
