Period and Menstrual Cycle Talk in Women's Health ·
The current situation:
It’s relatively predictable... roughly every 28 days, give or take a day or two... it lasts about 5 to 6 days, and those first three days are honestly brutal. I used to rely on Voltaren to get me through, though I'm not sure what my options are now that it's harder to find... and yeah, for those initial three days, I feel like I definitely need to have overnight pads on hand just to be safe. 🤣

The question/issue:
For two weeks, there's absolutely nothing—no spotting at all—but then for the other two weeks, it's either a full period or some kind of bloody discharge. It’s happened again. I brought this up to my OB-GYN, and his response was basically: "Are you pregnant?" Excuse me, doctor? Since when is that my job to figure out? I mean, I’m coming to see a specialist so they can actually tell me what's going on. If I were capable of diagnosing myself, I probably wouldn't be sitting in your office, right?

I’ve heard that you can experience bleeding during pregnancy, but usually, it’s lighter and doesn't last as long. So, what was he getting at? Is a two-week bout of bleeding a sign of pregnancy? 🤷

Any help would be appreciated, ladies and gentlemen! Thanks. 😬

Mark Miller13 said:I haven't really given it much thought, honestly—all I know is that there won't be any walnut cakes on any floor, because I can't stand them. In my opinion, sticking with fruit-based cakes is probably the happiest way to go!

I guess there’s no such thing as a perfect solution, unfortunately. There’s always at least one person who won't be happy. My partner just scowls whenever fruit cakes are served. As for me, I'll eat pretty much anything sweet—it's all good in my book (though, I suppose, it shows, if you look closely enough). 😬

Ronald Hill3 thanks a million!!😘 You were the one who told me about that bakery in downtown Chicago, right?

Just hopped off the phone with them—they said they can do that cake I described for 200 people $267😲

It’s basically half what I thought I'd be paying👋 👋 👋 👋 👋

analogmason15, I'm honestly so glad... 😍 It should turn out great.😛

rustyowl7 said:Mine will have bows too! A dress, a cake... I’m going to be all decked out in ribbons 🤣

Haha, Blue and Mary are right on track with me; I think bows are great, and my cake definitely needs them. Honestly, much like Blue, I’m thinking about making everything bow-themed—the dress, the shoes, even the car (though maybe skipping the floral arrangements there), the cake, the reception outfit, the invitations, thank-you notes, menus (is that going too far?), and the centerpieces. At least, that’s how the plan looks right now.😬

It’s not forbidden, and everything is fine... 😘
It’s just that I’m feeling a bit on edge right now—mostly because work has been a grind, plus all this legal headache involving the estate, and then there's the kid. On top of that, I’ve told you before, I went through something almost identical regarding a restaurant once...
Look, I didn't mean to come off as rude, but (sorry) I honestly couldn't even find the words to soften it this time...

😘 To you, I really didn't mean anything by it

Robert Cook52 said:I wasn't happy with them 👎 — as I mentioned, I'll admit the cake tasted fine BUT the decorations 👎 👎 — they were literally melting. On my neighbor's cake, they used pink tulle even though she explicitly asked for white or beige 😲

I don't want to come off as rude, but I've noticed that this whole debate over which bakery to pick for the cake is starting to feel a lot like the stress I went through when picking out a restaurant. It just ends up making me (the fool, 🤣) get all worked up about it. So, I've decided that once I make a choice—meaning, once the deal is done—my own opinion is really all that matters, and I'm not going to let myself second-guess it anymore. If I end up making a mistake (and I probably won't know until it's all over), then so be it. Mistakes happen to everyone, and it’s not the end of the world. No one ever claimed everything had to be perfect—after all, it might snow tomorrow, and what then?

Anyway, I did catch the part where you mentioned earlier that you didn't think Graber was a good fit because of some bad experiences you had with them. But personally, I stop by there at least once a week, and I haven't had a single complaint (aside from being bummed they were closed for a bit after that fire about two years ago), so I honestly think Graber is a much better option than Luciana, Nautilus, or any of those other cake makers in Naperville. Because of that, the cake for my wedding will be coming from their shop.
That's my final word on it.😛
In any case, thanks for the heads-up...

northernstag5 said:I'm actually pretty close to Naperville myself. We’re planning to get all our desserts and the main cake from the bakery in Topolovec; they're originally from Kaufman, so they're only a few miles away from you. I think I mentioned them to you a few pages back. If you want their info, I can shoot you a private message.
Which bakery did you end up ordering your cake from?

Sure, that would be great. Please send those details over via PM. 😘 I haven't actually ordered the cake yet (they told me it was still a bit too early), but I'm thinking about getting it from Graber (I think I posted a photo of it somewhere in this thread). Honestly, I've always been more than happy with both the taste and the look of the cakes I've gotten there (though maybe I shouldn't get too carried away right before my own wedding 😬 ), and it's easily my favorite spot. As for the small pastries, I haven't made up my mind yet—I suspect Graber might be a little outside my budget. 😳
I'm going to go dig through your old posts about Topolovec now... 😘

northernstag5 said:Regarding Sweet Gift, I don't really know much about them personally, though I have been to a few weddings where their desserts were served. Honestly, around Appalachia, you can find plenty of much better pastries than theirs—and don't even get me started on their cakes. The quality just doesn't match the price tag.

Hold on, hold on, northernstag5, you always seem to step away right when things get interesting. 😍 Come on, please, give us some more details—who specifically, where are they located, how much does it cost, and how do we find them? Since I'm based near Appalachia, I might actually head out and do some digging myself. 👍

I wasn't really planning on getting the cake from them anyway—we have this amazing local bakery nearby (let's hope Boone doesn't mess this up for my big day 😬)

I’m a bit lost here..🙂 Did anyone happen to be in that small town in Ohio near Slatki Dar for sweets? I'm trying to figure out if it's just your typical local bakery or something else entirely. Does anyone know their hours? I was thinking about heading over there this Saturday to get everything sorted out, but I honestly have no clue if they'll even be open.

I’m actually obsessed with this cake (please excuse the quality; I had to scan it since I couldn't get a decent photo elsewhere)...

image

It’s from that little local bakery here in town—the owner mentioned it was made for a crowd of about 250 to 280 people (though, honestly, I probably need something a bit smaller) and they priced it at around $1,500 to $0.53. Personally, I think that’s a steal. The cake looks incredible, too. My only gripe is that instead of looking for flaws, I’d much rather be looking for calories or pastries. It’s a minor thing, I guess. The bigger issue, though, is that my husband would want a cake on a formal pedestal, not something styled like this. He usually only speaks up when he’s about to veto something I actually want, UNKNOWN 🙂 🙂

Bryan Harris59 said:We’ve officially made the call to steer clear of fondant for our cake. Don't get me wrong, it looks absolutely stunning and you can sculpt just about anything with it, but let’s be honest—it tastes like sweetened Play-Doh. I’d much rather serve a cake that actually tastes delicious, even if it isn't a visual masterpiece, than have something that looks like a work of art but leaves everyone disappointed after the first bite. That’s just my philosophy, anyway.

Regarding the idea of using real flowers as decoration, I have this nagging worry that actual blooms might bleed their juices into the frosting—you know, that bitter sap that leaks out once you start cutting into them. Perhaps the trick would be to just tuck the flowers on a few minutes before serving? Though, then again, maybe I'm overthinking it and they don't even leave a trace. 😕

Personally, I’m leaning toward a rich chocolate cake for the wedding reception, but just imagine if we went with a jet-black wedding cake instead?! Good grief!

Well, it wouldn't really be black, more like a deep brown. I've seen a few chocolate ones that looked absolutely incredible, and besides, you've always got white chocolate as an option.😍

Rebecca Fox2, the price is $17/lb, right?

analoggardener51 said:The sooner, the better. I put down my deposit this past Monday for May 19th, and they already have three weddings booked for that date. Generally, they can handle two large ceremonies or one big wedding alongside two or three smaller ones.
And my aunt mentioned they’re already taking massive deposits by the bucketload!

Ha, okay. I’m looking at September, so do you think I should have my deposit ready by then if I want a big wedding? How much does the deposit usually run? Did you end up booking with them?
Gosh, I just love this forum... A huge 😘 to everyone, ladies!!!!!

Rebecca Fox2 said:Man, I’m usually pretty on top of things, but I actually forgot about that! I'm hoping to swing by there this weekend though, so I'll definitely make sure to ask them. Thanks for the heads-up 😘

If you guys end up going, let us know if the pastries are actually any good—and whether you really need to pre-order everything that far in advance. 😍

Has anyone here actually heard of Sweet Gift? I’m wondering if anyone has tried their pastries lately. What’s the general consensus? And how are their prices? I've heard rumors they might be incredibly cheap, though I suppose you get what you pay for. 😬

Alexander Moore3 said:Right? We were actually planning on grabbing a 110 lb bag, but if you're saying 65 lbs covers it, maybe I'll scale back a bit—doesn't make much sense to end up with a bunch of leftover junk just sitting around.

Thanks for the heads-up! 😘

If you're thinking about putting together little gift boxes for guests, you probably shouldn't forget to factor that into your total cost. 😁

I spent some time at the expo checking out Magnolia Bakery (they have locations in both Naperville and Smalltown, USA). Since they're easily my favorite bakery in the Naperville area, I figured it was worth looking into their cakes and pastries... I ended up asking about a wedding cake— $0.43 designed for 250 guests. 😁

Paul Barnes4, who actually baked those? Where from, and what was the price? You know how we all get when it comes to these details here.😁
btw, I think someone mentioned some cookies being baked by someone up in Appalachia for about $15/lb—that’s pretty close to where I am, so let's hear it: who, where exactly, and how can we actually get a taste?😬

Were you guys actually talking about rock music or was it more along the lines of folk and bluegrass? haha 😍 Mine is also set for September 15th.
