Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
pilif12 said:I’d love to hear from someone actually stuck in home quarantine about what the reality is like. For starters, if you're isolated, your whole family is effectively grounded too, right? Who brings the groceries, how do they handle the bills, and how does a doctor even decide when you're finally cleared to rejoin society?

Well, I can give you a little firsthand perspective on that misery, since my wife and I have been hunkered down since yesterday. We had contact with my brother—who's showing symptoms and just waiting on his test results—so we're playing it safe and staying locked in until Tuesday, once he clears both his first and second tests.

If that comes back positive, we’re looking at an automatic fourteen-day stretch, where some health official issues a formal order so our doctor can sign off on medical leave. Even though we’ll technically be "free" on Tuesday if everything stays negative, we already have to act like we're serving a full two-week sentence.

It was just me who had the exposure, but per the rules, my wife is automatically quarantined along with me, regardless of the fact that she didn't get home from work until later. Even the cats are part of this bubble. Since we live in a multi-generational house, we've basically barricaded ourselves on our own floor to stay physically separated from my parents and grandmother. My parents or a buddy who lives nearby will probably drop off supplies, but since we usually do a massive Costco run around payday, we've got enough food and essentials to last us the month.

If they end up extending our isolation, I'll probably just ask someone to drop off some fresh produce or maybe some tobacco if we run low. They asked if I had anyone to help with deliveries, and since I said yes, I didn't bother asking if there were any exceptions for specific items. Honestly, I won't be leaving anyway, so it doesn't really matter. If someone shows up at the door, I just spray the entrance and the door itself with disinfectant fifteen minutes beforehand and again after I grab whatever they brought.

We don't deal with doctors coming over, nor do we go to them. If the person testing turns out to be positive and we start feeling sick, we just call the public health line, emergency services, or our family doctor—she was kind enough to give me her private cell number. As for work, we've already agreed that we're definitely staying home Monday until that second test is in, and if the isolation gets extended, we'll see if long-term remote work is an option.

So, yeah, that's the situation. 😁

I suppose one has to believe in miracles sometimes, though I’d suggest keeping your feet on the ground and your wits about you.😁

It is definitely moving in the right direction, but let's be real—when it comes to TV networks and the major media outlets, you usually need some massive, earth-shattering scandal just to keep them talking about anything at all.

I'm honestly holding out hope that they dig up some dirt on Ed Koch; that would be the perfect way to keep the momentum going.

Greetings from the guys up north in the Bay Area.

I can't help but wonder why we never went after Barri with the same level of aggression we used against Mamić—or even those surrounding him. It’s like it doesn't matter if someone insults Mlatimudan Mamić because he's thick-skinned, but I’m certain a guy like Barri wouldn't be able to stomach seeing a mob of 100 or 200 fans outside his front door. Same goes for Mačinko, Svetina, or anyone else in that circle.

If we actually applied that kind of pressure, eventually their own families and social circles would start feeling the heat, forcing them to distance themselves from Mamić just to keep their lives from becoming a living hell. And once people started cutting ties with Mamić, it would finally signal to the rest of the general public—those folks who don't care about sports—that something is seriously broken. Most people don't view this through the same lens we do, which is actually a good thing since they aren't obsessed with the game.

At this point, Real Madrid isn't just about football; it’s a reflection of the entire sporting landscape and the economic pulse of Chicago and the US at large. We're looking at money laundering that everyone chooses to ignore because, aside from the fans, everyone else seems to be standing right next to Mamić. Fewer and fewer people are willing to believe there's a problem, so eventually, the public will just dismiss it as a petty feud between the fans and the board. We need to take out a few pieces of that administration to prove that Mamić isn't untouchable and that not everyone is on his side, especially now when things are getting messy and there might even be a chance to squeeze the Deputy Mayor.

The internet isn't some grand deception, and honestly, there’s barely any difference between falling for someone you met online versus falling for a colleague at a firm like Goldman Sachs; in both scenarios, you don't actually see who they really are until you step outside those specific environments and face them in the real world. If you felt like you were living in a fantasy, that was just a projection happening inside your own head, not some inherent flaw of the web itself.

On the flip side, he was likely just some jerk who probably ended things with his girlfriend right before he started talking to you, using your devotion to fill the void left by his previous relationship until he finally moved on. Once he felt stable again, he stepped out of the house and jumped straight into the arms of the first person he could find. We men can be such absolute cowards and losers.
