So, here's the deal—this vaccine covers certain types, but in about 30% of cases, cancer is actually linked to those other 13 genotypes that can cause it. Basically, Gardasil doesn't protect you from those 13.
Even if nobody’s really talking about this out loud—and you won't hear it on the news—there's basically zero direct proof that this vaccine even works for the 9-to-15 age group. Think about it: over 50% of cervical cancer cases hit women over 60, while only about 1% affect women under 30. caused by this virus is rare (only 3.3% of all female cancer cases) and totally preventable through regular Pap tests. These initiatives by cities or counties to mass-vaccinate girls of a certain age—usually around seventh grade—don't even make sense from a public health standpoint. It’s just throwing huge amounts of money at a problem with minimal—or maybe even negative—public health benefits, especially when you look at those risks I mentioned.
We have a responsibility to really dig into the health consequences for our own kids. I'm calling on everyone to push for more public debate about this in the media and within our government institutions. You have the right—along with your child—to decide whether to accept or reject this vaccine. Do your own research on Gardasil and pass this message along to your friends and colleagues, especially those with little ones.
